    I appreciate the comparison too.

Not happy though as I am horrified at the differential with our costs.

Not sure if it helps the comparison Spirit, but my 3 bedroom house is about 85 sq m, possibly a bit more, but part is a garage and that's not heated. Hopefully this means it isn't a like for like comparison.

Interesting statistic that I have never considered before so I have no idea how many sq meters we have here. I will have to get it measured. I want to know now.

Just to give an insight into former priorities...I know outside we have 3/4 acre+.

Our old place was about 900 sq feet, our rented flat.

Our current one is about 1,400 sq feet.

Wow, NDG that's huge for a flat. I wouldn't mind guessing given the curtain description that the cubic metreage is even more impressive.

ETA: Spirit, you probably know this already, but there are 10.764 sq ft per sq m.

We pay a monthly DD for to our oil supplier. It has just gone up from £113 pm to £187:eek: There are no underpayments in calculation as we paid top ups this is just based on usage/current prices.

Electricity is £61pm it went up from £44 when it came off a fixed deal and we have a woodburner in the sitting room.We only have a small house with 3 working adults in it. I am balking at this.

This must reflect the cold weather, I think it is realistic but a huge increase Are other NPs having the same inflationary experience and what if anything are you doing about it?

I am feeling very non MSE as our annual gas is about £950 and the elec runs at around £900pa .

I confess to very non MSE behaviour as, apart from not having a Nectar card (nor any other clubcard as they clutter up my purse) we don't switch utilities. The amount of time it takes and the research, I just lose the will to live.
So, we try to do it Old Style by minimising usage.

Hopefully, with the new double glazing, new insulated floors and son moving out they will reduce painlessly.

Ha ha ha, me too! I am glad I'm not alone in that. Thank goodness we knew what an iPad was before it was launched though, it definitely sounded like a sanitary item in those early days.

:rotfl::rotfl:I thought it was just me who thought that......I always wondered how the name got through the focus groups.

There was an idea that all houses should be sold with their sq footage or meterage as one 2 bedder can have the same floorspace as a 4 bed. Good idea but doesn't seem to have come in as a Right Move standard.

I think our house is about 1900 sq ft whereas Margate house is sold as a 5 bed (which we will turn into a 2 bed and even then the bedrooms won't take a kingsize bed).

I just explained what a PA was to OH as he asked what everyone was up to and I told him about Micheals DD not knowing the rules of the game 'Eastenders' and how it was a PA.

We had asparagus with dinner tonight....he asked if that was PA. I said probably not but our mirror radiator and new cushions from Germany are.
My defence with the cushions are that they are a key piece and the rest of the room will be done on a shoestring around them.

To Lydia I saw your note on Margate house.....it's so much easier when it's not a main home...like we are almost detached from it....just what will be will be :)

Hope old horse gets a bit of sun before the day.

For us it feels like continual spend as every day I seem to have to buy sockets or a carpet, or a wood floor and so on. Today was £900 on doors.

.....but I have found a good digital wall paper printing company so we will use do our own wallpaper for any feature walls.

Hi fc... cushions look gorgeous. In terms of wallpapers, something you may want to consider... The most stunning wallpaper I've ever seen was hung horizontally in a place that, to be fair, was selling design. I have no idea how it was done but it looked really architectural and fab. So don't think you have to think in terms of vertical repeat. Having said that, I don't know how many people there are in the UK that can paper hang horizontally.

Incidentally, you lot live in houses that are far too big. I'm never going to invite you round mine now in case you think I live in a cupboard.

How do you measure - is it external dimensions x number of storeys or are you supposed to size every room - what about stairs?
    I think....

Dh and I had some nice flats in Milan. Our favourite, was a forporate let that we would have stayed in were it not for the cats, was on two floors, well, a mezzanine, but miniscule. It has stayed though the model of what we would want from a city pied a terre.

Anyway it's not he hose but tose who live in it that I care to visit. Well, sometimes its he hous, but only if the people are dreadful and its an obligatory visit.

You can pop up here to lodgerland if you want to feel better. You can take in the scenery (downstairs's poorly maintained garden, and the damp walls in here). Probably best to dress warmly though (I have a hot water bottle on my feet and am wearing fingerless gloves - its all glamour here!).

FC - those cushions are rather lovely :) Hardly any houses are coming up for sale in the areas I like. And the ones that do are creeping up in price. And going SSTC within a few weeks :( I want to be looking for cushions and suchlike!
