Right - first 7 books in charity bag but have found 2 I haven't read yet - so onto the reading list.
Orwell's Down and Out in Paris and London and Douglas Adams Long dark tea time of the soul.... don't actually remember buying them!

You are right - shouldn't buy them in the first place ;) - well will read these two then off to charity shop with them. Doesn't help that we used to run a secondhand bookshop :o

I posted this somewhere ages ago but its very sobering...
an average uk house cost £226,887
    its 15.8sq m or 94.8 m cubed

that means each binbag full of surplus stuff requires you to pay £2,393 to store in your home
or if you have a mortgage
£4,786.........:eek:plus ths cost of whatever cupboard you need to hide it in...
I often think of the figure this way when I see something i want - but dont need - its not the cost of the thing - its the space it takes up.......it can cost you thousands of times its own value

the less stuff / things you have to look after the more time you can spend on enjoying yourself too :D
well done for starting the declutter...

I think books are a large problem for many of us.. I have gained 5 bookcases in the last couple of years and I am still finding more boxes of books stashed in various places. My other issue is clothes.. especially stuff we are saving for the next child down.. I have lots to head to CS this week too so DS3 and DD2 will be bossed to take it.

    The ladders are out...

This might sound strange but the girls like to keep their certificates and the box I store them in is on top of my wardrobe! Whilst up there I have put away the Xmas bits and got down the car boot box that was temporarily put up there. This is going to temp storage at my mums garage along with the stuff we sorted thru yesterday - she does not know this yet!

I have also got stuff to go to cash for clothing and then about five bags of carp for the tip. Someone has also told me about a clothes agency where I'm going to have a mosey at with a couple of girls out grown lovely dresses. If not they'll go in car boot tub.

I'm doing this first. Then my daily jobs and getting diary events done and then it will be stage two. Makes me laugh that elder one goes thru stuff and younger one takes it for her room.

Off for shower... Will update later.
Don’t put it down - put it away!

Oh this thread is making me feel better already!

Just curious - have googled "cash for clothes" - there are loads of people! Any recommended?
