Chuckled about the tins gentle orange. Mum has shelves in the cellar and I always remember coming home from uni thinking I'll whip up some tuna pasta. Let's just say I had tomato pasta it was that rank!

Still not been with the car boot stuff. But did get two jobs from to do list. Those that you mean to but never get round to!

:) Hello and welcome, gentleorange and well done with your progress thus far.

I have been tidying up in a rather dilatory sort of way. I'm out of the house working for most of the day and feel a touch mutinous and tired when at home and not wanting to do chores.

The table in my sitting room is very small and its piled with random stuff, chiefly but not exclusively papery stuff. I should probably haul everything off there and have a great sesh sorting it out and storing it properly/ disposing of it, but decided not to do it that way.

I'm sort of cruising by it and oh-so-casually plucking something off it to deal with. It serves as a way of tricking my inner-teenager into thinking she isn't doing chores.

I had the ironing board up to do a shirt yesterday, so made sure I took the 4 foot length of ribbon off the table to press it flat. It was on the table awaiting such treatment, then is wound around a piece of card and placed in the sewing stuff to re-use. This isn't hoarding as I do go into the stash regularly to use bits of ribbon etc.

Whilst I was around, I made a little pile of stuff to be shredded at a civilised hour when the shredder wouldn't disturb the neighbours and did a few other bits and bobs.

More and more in life, I come to understand that clutter and untidiness are the result of postponed decisions, that telltale I'll just put it down there for now, or I'll read that later...... you know how it goes, I'm sure.

I shall be rebellious now and just recycle a coupla things unread. I don't think anyone will make me take a test on the contents of the union mag or on two-week old local papers. Off they can go to be reborn into something useful.

Can I ask, have any of the readers here ever put a notice on their letterbox/ door about No Junk Mail? Was it respected? I see that a lot of the takeaway leaflets etc are actually being delivered by Royal Mail.

I never buy takeout, I'm not in the market for home improvements (I rent) so almost everything of this nature goes straight from the letterbox into the recycling, which strikes me as a waste of everybofdy's time and resources. I'm already good for not getting unsolicited post, it's just these blasted flyers etc.

    Thanking you in advance.

You're right lobbylud, I had an impulse to immediately replace what was missing, but I'd probably end up throwing most of that out eventually too. Meal plans are definitely something I want to start soon.

The problem is.. the guys who deliver the leaflets here can't usually read English or speak it in many cases so it is pointless having anything on the door... unless it is in 15 different languages!

My postman struggles to read the note which says 'if no one home please leave parcels at number 99'.. and he doesn't have a language issue!

Exploding tins......!! what was in them I wonder. I had a vision of you covered in tinned custard for some reason.

Mmmm.....the fire hazard thing I had thought about due to being tempted to keep all the removal boxes and shove in loft...'in case' they came in handy. Rang removal chappie this morning and he is coming tomorrow to collect....result.

Well I an utterly pooped, have been at the old end ripping everything out and may well have used every muscle in my body. Took out the cooker (freecycle guy never turned up last week), f/freezer, wardrobes, blinds, carpets, underlay, and ceiling fan. The flat is unfurnished so I had to take everything out for next tenant. I rang LL up saying it was a waste as person moving in may have no money etc and it could be of help to them until they get sorted...but no, it all had to be out. i'll ring the council in a couple of days to remove it, that way it gives the 'skip-divers' a chance to grab anything they want.

Oh and I got home to find I haven't bought a water proof house.....torrential rain pouring in bay window!!. no buckets as still at old end to finish cleaning it next week,so baking bowls on the window......i just hope to god it's something easy to fix and doesn't cost a fortune as running out of money.

So haven't got anything really done this end as spent from 8pm -23.30 staring at said bowls and watching Asbo cat trying to catch a moth but getting distracted by noise of plopping water which she found great as she now has her own constant tap in the lounge instead of going up to the bathroom and howling until I switch it on for a while.

Getting a bit sick or this constant sorting out of stuff malarki at the moment.....but will have to do it, I don't want to stop now as i'm not too far off seeing the end in sight...but it just seems endless.

So...tomorrow, bloke comes to get boxes out, friend comes to look at window, another friend arrives to go to shops and do lunch, afternoon empty another box of books onto a bit of shelf space, buy paint for one of the bedrooms as at the moment it's bright pink, find a joiner if I can.

Good luck with the next part of the job lobbyludd.

And well done gentle orange for the kitchen attack.

Oh and I cat-flapped 7 pairs boots/shoes, 3 handbags, money box,cat cushion, and a couple of candles to upstairs flat at old end, forgot about that so I have de-richarded a bit.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

    Morning all.

Whilst tech guy in yesterday I discovered that dd2 has a huge black bag worth of plastic play cups, plates, pans etc scattered round the house that I have never seen her play with. And there's me thinking I've not enough for a stall on car boot.

I don't know why I have suddenly got the urge to go thru the hoards .. Maybe the weather? What ever it is bring it on.

Today's plan is to finish dd2 game cupboard. I have a mystery shop and they have a farm type visit at a school to go to this afternoon.

:) Unfortunately, these are without envelopes, just glossy printed flyers from local businesses.

After I'd posted (look! a pun!) I recalled the summer I'd been a temporary postwoman about 20 years ago, and that we were paid to deliver these blasted things to every house on our "walk" so maybe I'd still get them even if I had a note on my letterbox?

Wastefulness and stupidity in general get on my wick. This is a council block. So it's utterly pointless for home improvement companies to arrange to leaflet. And we have double-glazing which is obvious to passers-by and cavity wall insulation (which isn't visible, admittedly). And where the bliddy hell would we put the solar panels and who can provide gardening services for a tower block FGS.

Operation FindaTable continues at a leisurely pace. Patches of surface are now visible.

It's not that I'm a particularly slovenly or lazy individual, but I am struggling with a very small home and a mind which is interested in lots of random things; things which often have physical manifestations. 'Spose if my only hobby was watching telly and I could barely read, my life would be less cluttery. But I'd be bored-bored-bored.

Yesterday I was at the supermarket checkout and found the AA battery which I'd put in my purse so that it would be able to go into the battery-recyc thingy at the supermarket, so that's one less thing, plus I parked a print cartridge in the hall where it'll be seen the next time I'm heading down the road past the charity shop which recycles them.

Baby steps. Time to get another cuppa and enjoy the slightly-later start I have today - normally I'd be in t'office by now.

I've promised myself that if the kitchen is finished by tonight I will buy a bunch of flowers for it tomorrow. I'm flagging, I need to bribe myself to keep it going!

The thing is, I started on the kitchen once I'd realised which systems would work best for me. I look at the living room which is next on the list, and see an overwhelming amount of paper. There are four tall bookcases which are crammed with random books and I don't know how to get a better organisation system in place.

Kitchens and bathrooms are fairly simple ultimately, you know what the kitchen and bathroom items are and where it would be practical to store them. I think I may be slowing down with the kitchen because I'm too intimidated to start dealing with the living room, and then my bedroom. Those are the two messiest rooms in the house:(

organisation of books can come later.. focus on clearing shelf space and the paperwork first.. so long as books fit on the shelf they are ok temporarily.

Paperwork I sort as it comes through the door now otherwise is piles up.. I emptied all the envelopes and binned those... then went through with my friend Mr Shredder.. anything over a few weeks old was shredded... then paid bills were shredded... then bank statements.. I now have a tiny pile of hospital appointments and school letters everything else goes immediately after it is dealt with.

Shoes however, are a different tale entirely!!!!!!!
