Oh, it's a bit disappointing; not far from me there's a detached house that had been empty for ages and used to be a dentist. About 4 years ago, somebody started to clear the place and started lobbing stuff into a skip. These teeth and an old rubber stamp were on the top of one layer and I thought "Hey, that'll entertain Him Indoors" :rotfl:
I'm sure if I were taller, I could have found more exciting items further down...‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

The loft was boiling hot, in the winter would it pay to leave hatch open for the heat to drift around upstairs? Or is that just inviting a load of spiders to join me....i don't like spiders....or would it mean more heat just went into loft quicker..?...having just woken up my brain can't work this out right now.
Hope everyone manages to crack on with whatever they are planning to do today.
NO it wont pay to to leave hatch open in winter, hot air rises and all you will be doing is sending your heat upwards and out of the roof.
Last winter I had a heating check and the man didnt replace my loft
hatch properly, result was horendous draught in hallway and a cold bungalow. Friend replaced this for me and was quite warm after.Slimming World at target0 -
most of ex's stuff was taken to recycling:
I hold my hand up to keeping:
1) aforementioned fan which is doing stirling work in dd's room (both children are in there)
but also :
2) a wooden box than I bought him on our first christmas, dd saw it and asked if she could have it for a treasure box, so i relented.
which led to
3) the old pine bed head being kept - I've been pinteresting vertical gardening techniwues for seedlings as at the moment they all end up on the garden table rendering it useless as an eating place. I'm giving myself 2 weeks to get this acheived or off to freecycle it goes.
so not perfect, but if the bedstead works (will look like an old gate when painted) I can get rid of the metalwork I found behind the fence that I was going to try and tuen into a vertical garden.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Hi all,
Been MIA for a while but always read the posts.
Gentleorange. As Lobbyludd says try and meal plan for the week or choose some meals that are easy cook/ easy freeze. I do curries/ chillis/ spag bol/ chicken casserole etc and freeze into sizes enough for a family meal. This way I sue up the fresh foods before they begin to deteriorate. The herbs/ spices etc I use I keep “in stock” but if it is a new recipe I may need to buy something new. (ras el hanout this week for a jambalaya)
Tinned foods will probably be fine to use from 2010
.
Greyqueen I feel for your dilemma re TFP. Without encouraging hoarding:rotfl:could you not use it in the bathroom to store soaps/ bathbombs etc on.
This will allow you to continue to enjoy and you can still go ahead with the plans for the fruit basket.
This week I have decluttered the ancient torn document folders that housed out "important stuff". Birth certificates etc. I replaced them with lovely brand spanking new ones.....that I bought and stored about 3 tears ago.:rotfl:
Sold 5 black bags of old clothes, shoes etc to the rag man.:j:j
Cleared out the pooches toy box and binned all the half destroyed things. He doesn't look pleased.:(
Thinned out the utensils in the kitchen again.:)
Used some left over cake dec items on a wedding cake:)
I am now decluttering a bottle of wine as I type:D:D:D
Keep up the good work
xxStart by doing what's necessary, then do what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible:j

Trying.....Very trying- as my DH would say

No room in the bathroom, unfortunately; the toiletries live on the windowsill as it is. But thank you for the idea.
I've been moving TFP around for years, trying to make it work, and have finally lost all patience with it. It will go this morning when I take the bag to the chazzer on my way to the shops.
Yesterday evening I did the filing of various bits of incoming mail which I'd got during the week and piled so that I could do them all at once as it's a bit tedious opening and closing a lockable file box. It's faster that way.
I was able to identify and heave out a couple of booklets from old savings accounts and heft them into the recycling, so that's all good. Working hard not to have too much paperwork, and found some kipple relating to a holiday a few years back in a large glossy freebie map of the area which I'd brought back to show my Dad (he likes such things) where I'd been and which could have gone to recycling as soon as it had served that purpose. Plus a freebie map of a foriegn city. I expect they'll still have maps available in the unlikely event I ever go back there.............:rotfl:
It's truly amazing the amount of paper-based but non-book items which end up in a bookshelf, is it not?
Okay, off to find another couple of bits for the donation bag and have my breakfast. Laters, GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Seem to have lost my mojo in the last few days and I was doing so well. I think it is because I want it all done straight away despite it taking years for me to get it to this state.
Tempted to get brekky and then leave girls here and nip to tip. Then I can load car with car boot stuff for mums in the hope that the empty space spurs me on.Don’t put it down - put it away!

I am still new to this (well have had chaos & clutter for years, just haven't sorted it).
Did manage 7 bags of books to the CS on thursday - maybe can manage some more today (heaps of clothes on chair might be a start...)
All your notes on here are so helpful - I'm not alone!0 -
we found a clothing rail up there, which I have left in case I ever got round to doing a car boot or did a come and help yourself to clothes i'm chucking evening.
Oh, I missed this. A spare clothes rail is brilliant if you're trying to sort your wardrobe into fits/doesn't fit or "Ah, as I suspected: 80% of my clothes are black" :rotfl:
Also useful for sorting and storing lengths of fabric. G'wan, ask me how I know this:D‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.
