Yes, calicocat, I would chuck them. In fact, I have only this year chucked some of that kind of thing out. They were mildly sweet, and it impressed me that I went out with some lovely boys, but I know I was loved a bit then, I no longer need the evidence.
I'm pleased you said that, i'm not even going to read them as will get 'stuck' going through things. They are getting binned right now. I've already thrown out my 30th and 40th cards which actually meant more.....so they are a gonna.
Thanks.xYep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Right....i have a dither so a question.
I'm sat looking at a stack of old letters and some cards from old boyfriends. My reaction right now is chuck them out as haven't read them for years (these are from when I was 16 - 20's) .
Would you throw them?
I made the decision years ago to throw out all the letters from when DH and I were dating. why? The same reason my mum threw out the ones from my dad - so that nobody else would have to make the decision to do it! And, like my mum, I don't want them read by anybody else.:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -

Well, I've only ever had one love letter (from husband when we were dating) so not a problem for me. Personally I would chuck, although I have kept this love letter. But really that's more to remind myself that we were in love once.
Last year I decided our garden table/chairs were not to my liking - cost a lot of money but were made of rattan so had to be kept covered most of the time. Saw a lovely metal set at a charity shop which I bought for £100 and didn't get round to selling the rattan one, which went in the basement. SO, last week I took advantage of the fine weather and listed it on Gumtree for £100. Had a buyer within a day who picked it up on Friday and was delighted with it. So chuffed with myself
With no studying to do for a month or so I've taken advantage of free evenings by making a start on tidying our bedroom while playing a film on the TV. Progress is slow but I'm actually quite happy. If only the heat would let up, I'm not made for this temperature..."Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -
Things have been fairly quiet on the clutter front as a lot of what could have gone has gone. I got a photo clock as a reward from Tickbox Surveys and I'm looking forward to displaying pics in that, and having fewer frames around cluttering the place.
Clothing is more or under control, only four new items bought this year and one of those got donated to a friend straight away.
Toiletries under control too, though I could easily slip. Enjoyed reading your clutter tales, esp the 25 year old meat. It must have been frost burned deepest brown...
Off to throw out boxes into empty recycling bin. Amazon sent a cover for the new rotary line in a massive box. It would have folded into a 9 x 6 placcy postage bag. They usually get it right so this was a slip.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
I have not done much on the decluttering front since last week although I have been steadily working through the ironing mountain, which will clear some space in the master bedroom.
The plan of action for tomorrow is to sort through 3 bags of paperwork from the master bedroom and also do some more of the ironing.0 -
Well I almost de-cluttered our internet company at the weekend, its taken them 2 weeks to get us back up on line again and then they tried to charge me for the repairs - cheeky people!
My office shoes and clothes have been sorted and most of them gone. It helps that a niece is doing work experience this week and was very grateful for the pretty pumps and blouses (took the sting out of it a bit!).
I've now also cleared out 3 old modems and 2 sets of telephones, plus about 6 bags for the tip. DH was horrified but I just cannot be bothered to find the space for something that the companies give out for free anyway.
Once the teenager's birthday is done at the end of the month I can properly clear out the big cupboard in the bedroom which is rammed full of rubbish. Doesn't help that I have to hide the crisps and biscuits up there because if I put a full multipack out in the kitchen they get eaten within the hour by the kids.
Washing machine broke today and the oven went yesterday (always does when we have a load of birthdays and a holiday coming up)! So I had to handwash bedding this morning and its now dripping on the line. I have also had a major paperwork splurge in the kitchen as the pile was as tall as the kitchen roll holder
Off to work in a mo, luckily it is fully air conditioned thereThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Well have sorted (half sorted) another couple of boxes and put wardrobe into an organised system. Have a couple of bags of stuff to chuck out of clothes (or charity shop when I find where they are here). Have cooked a chicken for work teas for next 2 days. Have moved tome of cat stuff downstairs now she has a spot. Have phoned I think everyone that I need to to notify of new address except dVLA and tv license (can't find tv info as yet).
Will resort shelves in bathroom as everything just got thrown on initially, and I think that will be it for today. Plan is to hopefully chill to start shifts again (and somehow reverse sleep pattern to nigh shift!) ....and meeting a friend at 4pm on the beach....yay...sea air and a bit of sun.
Oh, and did go down to old end to tidy, started it but it was too hot. Will have to go down over next 2 wks one evening....it wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be!.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
2 children finished school for summer hols... I get to declutter school uniform!
1 nappy wrap sent home with DD1
Several binbags of rubbish and recycling out.
Next returns done.. I seem to be up to date with that kind of decluttering!
I have a bag of stuff to go to DS1 for the grandboys which might help with space finding!
I also have stacks to go to charity shop again which should be fairly easy with the boys both at home now.. they can take a box a day and we are sorting their pit of a room over the next couple of days.. whether they like it or not!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Phew! It's a bit hot for this decluttering lark here. However, according to My Fitness Pal, I am managing to declutter a reasonable amount of myself alongside the house clearance. Anyone for "cleaning, light, moderate effort", or "cleaning, heavy, vigorous effort"?
Fab calorie burn per hour on the latter...
Today will see the third car load of the week to the recycling centre. I have been decluttering my mum's stuff (now finally ready to do it after she died in April), and I am amazed at how much she has managed to tuck away in the corners of her bedroom. Still, someone else will have use of her clothes and many of her other things have been able to be recycled. To stop me hanging on to too much stuff for sentimental reasons, I have bought a beautiful decorated chest, and all of my memories of her (diaries, photos, some of her art, her favourite scarf, some jewellery) are going in there. I've made a little halfway house in the wardrobe for some clothes I can't quite manage to let go yet, and have set myself the task of going back there by New Year at the latest to make final decisions.
Just one more double and one triple wardrobe to go. Then it's time to start on her craft room. I am hoping to donate a lot of it to a local college. I think she'd approve. Then I have a course booked to learn how to use her sewing machines.0 -
DS and I have been through all the loose schoolwork from the year on his desk and trashed nearly all of it. What a difference that makes.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
