Housework is so much easier when you have space to pull things out, move things and put them down briefly.

We still have personal stuff we like around, but we only have stuff we like. And we have got rid of other stuff that we like but don't need.

Latest items to go are DD's baby change bag, which had a useful changing mat. But it was a free, sturdy one from Boots that I never liked because it was black and grey - dreary.

I went thro DS's sock drawer and he only had one sock with holes in so that went.

Haven't done too much else except keeping washing up to date. Sunny weather is great.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
  • Good evening everyone I am just popping on to update on my progress to sort through clutter. I have spent today sorting through some baby clothes and then working my way through washing a bin bag full of clothes, which can be used by lo when they come along. As well as sorting through the baby clothes I have also done some general cleaning in the kitchen.

I've done a fair bit of shredding and added the shredded paper to strips of newspaper to make paper briquettes, drying nicely in this glorious weather. I am learning to trust that almost every newspaper cutting is information available online. Sentimental stuff can be scanned and saved digitally. CDs and DVDs are steadily leaving the house, MusicMagpie is no great moneyspinner but I've even got £20 for a bag full of branded clothes that none of us could be bothered to list on eBay.

My mother passed away last month and we started clearing her bedroom. My sis said, "O....M....G.... what a state, I couldn't live like this", yet I thought how neat it was - very full, yes, but stuff not in drawers or cupboards was clean, all folded neatly into piles, and not on the floor. It'll take several goes at it, but it's made me think I can make my own bedroom less of an obstacle course, if I just move some stuff to show a bit more carpet!

Some clothes and trinkets from Mum's taken to charity shop, dropped some bead necklaces, leggings and a shirt of my own into the bag - easy.

    Morning all!!!
I went to bed at 11 then being unable to sleep :mad:I thought it would be best to get up and “do stuff” so another drawer in my cabinet has been sorted.Out with odd broken pencils, tatty envelopes, no longer very sticky sticky tape and bits that I;m not sure what they are or where they came from. Not much but every little helps:)
Also if I started clearing wardrobes etc at this time of night my DH would not be pleased.

“She is not taking it with her when she moves - it is coming to me!” sounds like you are keeping the 1988 steak:rotfl::rotfl:

Can you not scan the ones you like into a file on your computer? Then get rid ASAP or they will develop roots and become part of the household

Believe me. The first times are the hardest. Then you begin to see space and discover things to had forgotten Hopfully the things you discover will be better than what you are throwing away:D
I now feel almost cleansed when I rid the house of “stuff” no longer used, needed, wanted or just don’t like it anymore:smileyhea

Start by doing what's necessary, then do what's possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible:j
Christmas is not a time but a state of mind :xmassmile
Trying.....Very trying- as my DH would say
    Loving de-cluttering

nitnurse-not2 - the 'well aged' steak went to mum's local tip on Saturday am, along with all the out of date food.

I am having the freezer! I will need a man with a van to bring it over here - but I intend to start filling it with whoopsies! I need to find out what time the local supermarkets really slash their prices.....
    :jFlylady and proud of it:j

nitnurse-not2 - Mr F had already said about scanning so the mags will go. Just need to look through them to see what recipes I fancy. I will have to do a few mags each day so the piles go down.

Hello again, been missing for a while but read regularly and cheer you on from my less cluttered than ever living room!
Hugs to all who are having troubled times and to those who aren't xx

Still keeping going on the de-hoarding. Discovered something interesting last week. I know I am a hoarder and what my usual triggers are but when going through some stuff with dh in the room, he was the one stopping things from leaving! Aha so that's one reason why it's taking so long! I thought it was one hoarder and one hoard, nooooo it's two!
Having to be very careful how I broach the subject though as it quickly sends the shutters up in dh mind. At the moment the stategy is just to keep going through things which are clearly only mine e.g. clothes and setting a positive example. Also, lots of praise and positive comments about how things look better when he agrees to lose a few things.

Anyhoo, stuff is still leaving and not being replaced at the same rate, visible progress most weeks so that helps.

    Onwards and upwards xxx

Ooh I have that one too! Never used it as I've always used the changing bag that came with our pushchair/car seat combo. But have kept the unused Boots bag 'just in case' although I'm not planning any more children and DD is currently being potty trained. Maybe I can give it away? :o

I've been absent the last few weeks as I had another big exam last week - all housework was forgotten so now I'm falling over piles of stuff. We have visitors this weekend so I have to do a little and a lot over the next few days when all I want to do is de-stress...sigh.

A special hug for twiglet, take it one step at a time. :)

Am pleased to report the 2 charity bags, 3 big boxes and 5 large framed pictures were not churned around the house. They successfully were collected by local charity.

My world has not ended and the sky has not fallen in like it felt like it would.

    Thanks to all xx
