Can I ask why you de-label the jars? Mine just get a quick rinse and then go straight in the recycling bin.

I've just checked my councils recycling guidelines and it doesn't mention removing any labels.

Worth a check as it might just be another job that keeps stuff in the house for longer than necessary.

I started with good intentions today going upstairs with the little one too do some sorting and crashed out on the bed with him. I think a bad case of hibernation fever is taking over. I really want to do some sewing but have no motivation or energy whatsoever.

I did throw out a bag of fabric yesterday as the poorly cat did a wee all over it. He is very lucky he is still with us. He was nearly decluttered permanently.

I take the labels off! But not because of recycling, it's because I re-use just about all suitable jars that come into the household. Yes, I really do. I make unusual & traditional preserves just about all year round, then give them away at Christmas amongst the wider family & friends, and even sell some at our Guild Christmas Fair. The jars have their own set of shelves out in the garage so they're not in anyone's way, and woe betide anyone who chucks a useable jar into the recycling; I even have to ask for them on Freecycle, from time to time.

Baaaaad day from the clutter point of view - there was some heroic stuff on the market this morning from the house-clearance boys, including a set of gorgeous vintage leather & exotic leather handbags which have cleaned up beautifully, then a cracking Premier League jumble sale this afternoon, but it's all stock for the business and most of it will be going straight out again onto my stalls tomorrow. The only thing that's snuck into the household for a while is a tiny folder of 1930s & 40s recipe booklets, which I shall have to try some of before I sell them on too. Cold Velvet & Jelly Pudding, anyone? Rice Hedgehog? Palace Queen Cakes? Hermit's Kisses?

    Irresistible...

  • Uuuuuurgh. I felt so responsible today and then it all went down hill. *miffed*

Went into town and unlocked my debit card which I'm pleased about - it was a stupid mistake to lock it. :o Was v. restrained in PaperRunAwayAndHide - could have spent lots of money but kept it to under £25. :A

Built half the bed in the spare room which I emptied and cleaned yesterday, and arranged for pick up of a bookcase which sold on e.b.o.y. (£34! I'm dead chuffed). :D:D

And then I checked my emails, and found an account I hadn't checked much. Found out that the storage unit I've been renting actually hasn't been paid for since JULY!

    JULY.

So now I have to come up with £500 on short notice. :( *miffed* I think I could do it but it means carrying my credit card debt another month and a bit until my inheritance comes through. *sighs* And it means I have to eat out of the freezer and the fridge for longer than I hoped for.

Ah, well. At least tomorrow my brother is coming over to help me sort out the bad unit. We're going to go into the city and move it all over into my mother's one, so I don't have to pay for all of October's rent.

    _pale_ Ew. That sounds horrible.

And tomorrow's always a better day - I hope you feel better then!

Shame you don't live nearer thriftwizard I think I'd like to swap some of my sparkly clean, delabelled glass jars for some of your Hermit's Kisses :-) Not that I have a clue what they are!

Autumnal mists (aka fog) here this morning - don't know if they are going to burn off or not, but I've got the washer on anyway. More cardboard gone into recycling - packaging from DS's booze which he took to a party last night .... I received a text at 3.42 am to say he was sleeping over at a friend's ... yawn.

Think I'll wash another bowlful of pots before visiting dad and then mum - it'll be a lot easier when they are back under the same roof (mum is still in the Reablement Unit).

Hope everyone is having a good day

I woke up this morning and first thing tidied my bedside table. Found a nice box to put cd player, walkman (yes, I still own and use one!), tapes, cds and earphones in. Also neatly stacked the books. Next week a workman is coming to "inspect" my room to give me a quote for removing the chimney breast (not sure if that's the right word, lol). He'll see why I need more room ;) but it doesn't have to be badly untidy!

Not sure myself! I'll find out & report back on Tuesday; busy all day tomorrow so no time for experimental cookery.

I'm quite pleased with myself today; DS2 & DS3 have swapped rooms, as DS2 & the TDiL have furniture to accommodate and the room that DS3 was in, although exactly the same size, has no fitted cupboards, so they can have more of their own stuff in there with them. Needless to say, the room that DS3 now has looked a complete mess two days ago, full of spilt boxes of books & clothes, two upended beds, 3 empty bookcases on their sides etc. etc. And my cousin's coming to stay in there tomorrow night! But I have managed to clear it up & clean it & find sensible homes for everything, and although it's still a little - well, alternative - on the decor front as the two boys have completely different tastes, so it's a weird mixture of beach hut stripes (DS2) and classical country house (DS3, has delusions of grandeur & snaffles up posh curtains, fringed lampshades, Axminster rugs etc.) BUT it's clean & tidy & everything has a home - well, except two accordions and a large old typewriter. In my defence, the accordions are up for sale (DS2's keeping his own one, but my other two accordionists have given up; one's now playing the harp instead, which takes up even more room & costs even more) through their old teacher, and so will the typewriter be, provided & I can get it out of there before he gets home. I had to evict three ancient typewriters from under his bed when he went off to uni.

So - a car load of cardboard & a dead computer chair went off to the Tip & not very much came back, just a sewing machine in need of some TLC before being sold on. And we now have a room I'm happy to let my cousin stay in & DS2 come home to.

Now to tackle DS1's room, where Everything Else has come to rest, mostly on top of the bed...

    Morning Everyone

I have a confession to make. A couple of days ago DS decided to find a hole in the net curtains ( yes I dislike nets but like privacy) and decided to put his finger in it and rip one in half almost. I took them down straight away because they were ruined and...........dumped them on the chair. Why?! Anyway this morning an epiphany, I picked them up and threw them away. It takes sometime but it eventually filters through.

Off to get the last of the Christmas bits for the little one this morning then a morning of mad cleaning and sorting.
