Feeling quite inspired at the moment - also thanks to you lot on this thread! :):) - have actually cleaned out the "under-the-sink-cupboard" which houses pots, pans and lids. At last visit to Ikea I bough some of these tiny shelves you can put into cupboads (I'm using this in the tin storage cupboard) and a rack for lids which I now have installed down there. The effect is delightful, no more flying lids, I can see which one I need and I also found doubles in measuring jugs which will come in very handy soon as DD1 will move to Uni. I will start a box for her with cooking stuff she can take asap. We'll both be happy, she won't have to buy so much and I'll have some more space!

    afternoon,
pp, yes it was think we talked for over 2 hours, and i still dont think i got anywhere very far in the end.
knowing my nan she will probably try and forget half of what was said any way, like when she said about me not going out much and i tried to explain i dont like the feelings i get when im out and how tired i feel when i do, all i had from her was well i feel like that sometimes but i have to get on with it. spose its her generation in a way, my husband has some of the same values, especially work ethics. apart form when the dr insisted he take time off last year the only time off from work he had in over 6 years was when he went in and got told he couldnt work in the state he was in and got sent home by the boss, then he was back in the next day, they also have to force him to take some of his holidays, usually a random week appears on his rota.

got to try and sort out the mug cupboard at some point, had gone through them not long ago, but i was given a new set of 6 recently that had been bought and forgotten to be given to me at christmas, so now i need to make more room and i refer the bigger mugs i have been given so old ones will be sorted through again.

after staying at my friends place and teh amount of stuff she got, as less stuff as i got since i started sorting, im feeling i still need to sort more out, its just weather or not i can make myself get rid of more stuff.
will just keep reading and try and get some inspiration from everyone here :)
i know theres a few bits to go out, but i have to dig them out first and then decide if its shed or bin. bin would probably be better as i cant really see me using them again anytime soon. (tile glue and grouting mix)
unless i offer them to someone first, someone might find a use for them :)

Not much decluttering indoors at the moment. Did manage to get DH's yellow trousers to the CS at last though - lol. Decluttered my raspberry bed of all the fruited canes as they are virtually finished now & tied in all the new ones. Pile of cuttings waiting to go in the green sack tomorrow. Green sack is already full & they empty in the morning & I think I'll have refilled in about 10 mins haha.
Taken a look round my kitchen & it needs some serious attention - too many 'bits' lurking around. I don't think I'll ever be 'minimalist' but maybe minorist instead of majorist ;)

Have a pile of things that I want to try and sell in Ebay. Including DS's duplicate Subbuteo items that he doesn't want. They won't sell for even Half of what they are worth, which is what REALLY annoys me, however hopefully if they sell at all he'll have a bit of money in his pocket to spend on something nice

:) My Mum was able to do this for me when I went to uni and it was such a help.

The flat was supposed to come fully equipped with all kitchen equipment etc (it was a uni-owned flat). So the 5 of us arrived in good faith expecting the promised pots, pans and cutlery etc and discovered a fully-equiped kitchen = a kettle, iron and ironing board!

Cue panic. No one had any money to speak of, one guy had had the wit to bring a tin plate, one knife and one fork and that was all we had. Cue emergency phone call to my fabulous Mum and a parcel winged its way north with some pans, crocks and misc from her excess kitchenalia. You should have seen us 5 clustered around it a few days later, all anxious faces and how we lit up when we discovered we had the core of a kitchen.

    ;) Mums rock!

Been at work today and have come home to cook, eat and chill. Have cleared off the tabletop of the papery misc and then vacuumed it, it was so dusty. I know, I know, the shame of it. :o Between other stuff I may excavate the sofa as well. It's a virtually unknown thing for both table and sofa to be clear at the same time, mebbe there will be some kind of spooky occurance if both should happen together..........

Other than that, the kitchen is a pit due to the bake-and-run session yesterday evening, so I must get that back into some kind of order before bedtime, can't face it again tomorrow.

DH finally got his drawers cleared out. He has chucked a lot out apparently. I am pleased, he seems lighter for having done it.

:T I think the psycological feeling of lightness achieved by decluttering is hard to describe unless you've experienced it. It's as if every item we own has a kind of mental attachment to us, whether we can see it or not, and we're always somehow keeping track of it.

Imagine having a Loft of Doom bearing down on your head all the time, knowing that one day you or your heirs will have to sort the beggar out. How light and fluffy you'd feel if there was nothing up there but the insulation.

I love the sensation of un-shopping, which is what I call it when I go to the charity shop with a donation bag or two, and come home empty-handed. The ease as the weight comes off your shoulders is mental as well as physical.

I have the entirely unscientific belief that some people's stress could be alleviated by having Less Stuff.

Have worked wonders in the kitchen and washed and dried 2 bowlfuls of stuff, am taking a break before doing the rest just before bedtime, to catch the last few bits. Flat not looking too bad and I have been making an arrangement on the phone which will see some other stuff out of here in a fortnight, which isn't big stuff, but every little helps when you live in a dollhouse.

Keep up the good work, lovely peeps.

Been doing little bits to my flat ready for when I leave it. Attacked the mouldy looking bits on the bath, Most of it was stained that way when I got here, can't shift some of it but it looks better. Descaled my kettle and took down the extra layer on the living room curtains, they are fabric panels my Mum found at a WI sale which I've had safety pinned to the very, very sun faded Habitat curtains that came with the place!

Whitewing, it sounds like you have inspired your other half! You will both get there...and feel lighter for it. Keep going! I have had to be kind to myself , forgive myself for not living up to my high expectations for myself,...! - I have this week off work, supposedly on holiday...I did have plans(and lists!) for all I wanted to get done, but have spent it so far running about after other people in my family. It is my birthday on Saturday, so yesterday took some time to MYSELF to spend my birthday money on essential clothes(Knickers, sox, t shirts and vests)..I haven't had any new clothes(apart from a new bra) in 6 years as money has been so tight,, so I am delighted with all my new things. I had planned to do some tidying/decluttering and dehoarding of USEFUL(?) things and wanted to do a bit of decorating/painting, but I am knackered and (this is what I mean by having to be kind to myself) I have had to just realise I am not going to get everything done on my week's holiday that I wanted to get done...I don't have the energy, time or money. If I can just do a wee bit every day then it will be better than it was AND I will have my batteries recharged for going back to work on Monday. Little steps. I do not have to be GUTTED that I have not got everything done that I wanted to. Thanks for this thread folks... so pleased to know there are you all out there who understand .

Not much happening in the way of decluttering here but have been doing well at keeping the house fairly tidy. Cleaned two toilets and have cleaned the kitchen up including emptying out two cupboards and dettol spraying the insides and letting them dry before refilling them up. Did throw some empty medicine boxes, a cup my daughter used for a bedtime drink for ages but it started leaking and 5 dried up little girls nail varnishes though :)

Feeling excited as have booked a holiday for August in the sun, next job is going to need to be starting to plan packing as don't want to be on the last minute and stressed this year! x
