I have decluttered a nagging job which involved a small piece of physical decluttering also. I have been seeing this job several times a day for two years and not dealing with it, and being annoyed by it.
I thought it would be difficult to resolve and it took - wait for it - three minutes from start to finish.
Jings, but how much time have I spent thinking about this and just not dealing with it? Ridiculous..........:rotfl:I have also spent about 20 mins dealing with another long-standing annoyance in the same room and it was also no biggie when I settled down to it.
How does the proverb have it? Procrastination is the thief of time.

I had a good clear out of the kitchen cupboards yesterday. Really, if I have not made up a packet of felafel mix with a sell by date of 2012 by now, I am not going to ever do it - in the bin, ditto the unused bottle of camp coffee, some herbal tea bags, the coconut milk powder.
Some going out of date chick peas and tahini made some rather nice hummus - took all of 5 minutes and is delish.
A change of eating regime (cutting sugar and wheat and "additives") cleared out a few more things - including 15lb in weight so far :T plus some dubious looking sauce bottles,
And boycotting Nestl! means throwing those two Easter egg mugs into the bin- not sending them to the chazzer where they are still being advertised.
DD is leaving for uni soonso more random mugs will go (her mugs are massive too, so we should get loads of space back - might get into her nest of a bedroom to sort stuff out also. Got to look for the positives).

Well I WAS supposed to be nipping into town today to take back a few things I had bought but don't fit
HOWEVER I really can't be bothered doing it today lol.
So, the 2 kids we are looking after have been enrolled into the summer scheme along with mine - even though they won't be here for all of it, but for £10 each it was worth it. They are off to the swimmers this afternoon then the pictures this evening.
That means instead of me going into town, I'm going to head upstairs and tidy up and clean out the stuff I have been threatening to do all summer.
It WILL be done today and I refuse to leave that room until it is completed.Pay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -
:T Go go, girl.
HAve been inspired and have just nixed two other niggles and they were easy, also. I will not deal with a slightly bigger niggle, which is will take a few mins; removing the kitchen venetian blind (only 3 ft wide one) and cleaning it. I know you can clean them in situ but I find it fastest to do this one in the bath.
That's about another 2 year procrastination, btw. But I've just made a phonecall to see if a bike part had arrived at the shop, and it won't be in now til Monday minimum, so I won't have to go up there today and now thus have some free time to de-niggle my life.
Onwards and upwards, my lovelies, remembering that clutter can be mental clutter as well as physical clutter, and it's all gotta go. GQ xx
ETA: Phew! Hot and bothered now. From commencement of the job (kitchen blind) to completion was 47 mins, which inc cleaning window and frame inside and out and oiling the works as per manufacturer's handbook. Happy now.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Well the room from hell was completed yesterday :j:T
How one wee tiny room can hold so much crap is beyond me:eek:
Anyhow, I'm having a break today, we have a lovely warm day today for a change, so we are taking all kiddies out for the day for some much needed family/adoptive family time :rotfl:
Will make a start somewhere else tomorrow...... weather permitting lolPay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -
Today, I have deshopped a dress back as it didn't fit right. For once I did it fairly promptly and got the full money back for it. :T
I also took DS to the bank to order his pin number so he can be dehoarded of the £350 he owes us!
I am planning to dehoard the ironing later
BTW GQ, I know you love a bit of ironingI saw one of these on my travels abroad last week

 have you seen the price????
Why? why would anyone buy that? My ironing board is 30 years old, though it's had a few new covers. My iron cost about a tenner.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Been doing little bits to my flat ready for when I leave it. Attacked the mouldy looking bits on the bath, Most of it was stained that way when I got here, can't shift some of it but it looks better.
Lucy - I live in a hard water area & baths can get in a real state. I use the toilet limescale remover wiped round (DONT get it on chrome taps!) & it gets rid of the nasty film. You can also try dribbling some on the stained areas but be careful & do it little by little & rinse well afterwards.
GQ - Gold Star today! How I agree with you that often thinking about an irritating job takes more energy that actually doing it. Hmmm - as she looks at her desk & the mountain of kibble spread across it that has been 'on the list to do for at least 3 months.....:rotfl:Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
 Gorblimey, d'you see the price of that iron!?
That's about £500 more than I paid for my most expensive CAR. Have people lost all sense of proportion?
I have an ironing board which was cast-off from the late Mum of my parents' neighbour, and my iron was bought as a gift in the 1980s. Works just fine today, but it does have an easy life and I don't stress it by putting water in it. Mum used to kill steam irons every 2 years or so, until she started copying me and her MIL and never putting water into them ('orrible hard water area) and they just go on for ever. Her current iron cost 50p from a jumbly.
Have been out and about today, mainly gardening on my allotment. Yesterday I decluttered a bagful of tetra-paks at the specialist recycling bank and today I've decluttered a bagful of library books - actually since I took 3 back and got 4 out, that was a negative declutter.......:p
Still smiling to look at the irritating little jobs which got jobbed yesterday, it's making me very happy although a visitor probably wouldn't even have noticed the issue. Weather today was very good here but tomorrow is predicted to be summat turrible so I may be stuck indoors with only the chores, the interwebs, some excellent reading material and a luncheon date with a pal to amuse me.
It's a hard life and no mistake.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
