Got my 'arris in gear yesterday. Decluttered 3 part used sunscreens into a pump bottle to use as moisturiser for legs & arms. Cleared out a jar of olives (we dont eat & out of date) some ancient Piccallili and half jar of burger relish. Sorted out paperwork file for my car & threw out all the old out of date insurance booklets (kept records of NCB though!) Stripped bed & did 2 loads of washing and put away all the clean washing from the last 2/3 days!
Aiming to continue today........;) 'Fessing up on here does make me focus a bit more haha.
ps: I often post unwanted stuff on Freecycle - its always been wanted/needed by someone & best of all its collected!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Oops, I have been so good with my shopping lately but I ot iced this morning that I have let things slip and have a huge pile of ironing. The washing basket is empathy though.
So this morning the ironing needs to be done AND PUT AWAY. Then the big push until work starts again on Wednesday. I break up for the summer on Friday so want to have as much done as possible before then so I can get some repairs/decorating done.
It's strange though as how so much stuff can be thrown out or donated but the house still looks completely cluttered. Mind you a six foot snooker table standing in one room of a terrace house doesn't help.

parsniphead, I promise you that all of a sudden one day, you will be amazed at how beautifully uncluttered it is.
Ironing. Forgotten what that is. All my summer clothes are now washed, dried and put away regularly so I don't iron them at all.
DH is painting DD's bedroom today. (Long overdue painting, we have been busy with shifts so this is the first chance he's had since we bought the paint weeks ago). I am stupidly excited about it, because our room has given us so much pleasure).:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Today, I am in our conservatory. Giving it a tidy up.
A lovely room when it is tidy :0/
Winter it is filled with plants to keep out of the frost.
The local radio and dog are keeping me company.
I find the conservatory gets the cluttered look. A dumping ground.
A few bits are going in the bin/charity shop/recycling.
A bit of putting things in other places.
Just moving things makes a diffrence. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
decluttering mojo has returned
papers shredded and recycling bag ready to go out, a duplicate toy regifted, some fabrics released to children's sewing projects, the fridge art gallery and notice board screened for current items and rested filed or binned.
i've even cleaned some random non-food-prep surfaces in the kitchen, although haven't got so far as to clear out a cupboard (the spice cupboard really could do with it - I may attempt it today) have put the first coat of paint on the hall ceiling and will sort the next one today.
I have not bought cast iron garden furniture ends on the bay-of-e, although I really liked them, nor have I bought stained glass windows although again I really want them, because I have projects aplenty to finish already and debts to get rid off.....:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
oohh, stained glass windows and cast iron furniture! I love them both.
When I was at uni, my then-boyfriend (lasted all of a few months) gave me a massive Valentine's card. Every so often it resurfaces and DH makes a joke about finally decluttering it. This time, it was found under DD's bed as we are clearing the room for painting. Cue, joke. But DD has said, ooh that's lovely and she is now using the Valentine's card as a door to her pretend house (the dining room table) so it is on prominent display.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. 3 tins of Rich Chocolate Flavour Slim-Fast offered on my local Freecycle.
I've also identified a place which recycles CDs and DVDs - for when they're too scratched to play/give away.
Even though I have to pay postage, I feel better for knowing that there's a bit less waste going to landfill because of me. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
I found a taped classic novel. That will go to recycling. Can't remember when we got rid of the tap machine.
There are some books that will go to the book bin in recycling too.
I am waiting for the rain to clear to put some washing on the line. Some curtains that came with the house may be good for DD's painted room, at least until we buy some new ones. So they went in the wash with a bucketful of Vanish. They have come up nicely. I am ridiculously excited.
Going to sort out some lunch now, I think.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Hi, found this thread whilst initially searching for an old newspaper (for my grand-daughter) and didn't want to just read and run.
I am not a prolific hoarder but do have a tendency to keep stuff that 'might come in useful one day' or that I might be able to make something with. I used to collect things in the past and know this can lead on into hoarding.
Having watched the hoarding programmes I now understand that my own collecting and (minor) hoarding is most likely due to personal loss.
I am lucky in that my hoarding is not as extreme as ones shown on tv - I have one 'junk' room which is fairly organised, not piled to the ceiling or anything.
I do find it difficult to throw things out though. I have managed to sell quite a few things on ebay over the last couple of years, given some stuff to charity shops, local women's aid etc. and don't collect anymore.
I am trying to sell a lot of my stuff (this is a moneysaving site after all) but it is slow-going and ebay have made it virtually impossible to continue now.
I spend a lot of time 'moving' things around of course but my goal is to just keep a few 'special to me' items and get rid of the rest. One day at a time:)
Good luck to everyone. The thread is too long for me to read it all but I will try and drop by occasionally0
