Not a good suggestion if you are on a diet but nesquick milkshake made fairly good cakes, so slimfast may be good too for chocolate cake.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Could you perhaps offer the shakes on freegle/ freecycle? People often want all sorts of things.
Realised when I re-read my post above that I'd actually told you a porky-pie; I bought a deodorant whilst I was out. Because I have used up every single one on the premises. And I managed to buy just one, and I can't tell you how liberating it is to get past the anxiety of having to pre-purchase stuff ahead of it running out, instead of just waiting for it to happen.
My bathroom is looking pretty clean and decluttered. I have one bottle of shampoo upside down as it's getting towards the end, maybe a few more uses out of that, then out she goes. Which will leave precisely one large bottle of shampoo, which will be used up (or very nearly up) before I buy the replacement.
Periodically, I do sorting-out at my parents' place, have done for years with their knowledge and consent. And whenever I've done over the bathroom, I've found very expired toiletries which represent a complete waste of money and have sat there gathering dust and taking up space.
I wonder what % of toiletries sold in this country is used, and what is wasted? I bet there's hardly a person in the land who could swear, hand on heart, that they'd never had to junk toiletries.I've been there. Hoping to not do it any more, though.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Gosh! I watched half a program i saw on TV last night with an open mouth ;0O.
It was about food horders. Stacks and shelfs. Cupboards, fridge and huge freezers full of food.
It prompted me to do my monthly check of our food cupboards.
One has jars and bottles = sauce and cooking herbs/spices. Hot chocolate.Salt/pepper/viniger.
Found x2 out of date and binned. So not to bad.
Tidied up my other cupboard and refilled coffee plastic tub and put a few other things from 2 containers into one. Nothing to throw out.
Next was the fridge. I check that daily. I buy YS food and have to watch it gets eaten quick. No problem here though.
Managed to toss out just x2 grapes.
I think I will try and find that program on my computer to watch the whole of it. Shocking to see so much food. Every whare. Wow!
Just put x3 washed out glass jars in the recycling box from this mornings kitchen tidy up.The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
good advice, I'd apppreciate a linkie if you find that programme online.
Re salt and pepper; they don't expire. Salt will last for centuries as long as it doesn't get wet or corrode its container and get contaminated that way. Pepper doesn't date expire either, it'll gradually lose its potency over time, but we're talking a long time. If whole peppercorns as opposed to ground pepper, you're talking decades........Vinegar is pretty much immortal, too, but if you don't fancy putting it on your chips, you could always use it for cleaning or as a hair-rinse.
Lots of packaged stuff is perfectly OK past its expiry date, so if you haven't had your bin collected, you might want to think about getting a hold of it again and using it. These dates are for stock control in the food chain and to prevent us suing the manufacturers if we have a slightly-substandard eating experience, not an indication that the food is toxic past the date.
Think about it; I'm using a litre of UHT milk with a BB of this month. Simply because it is the oldest in the cupboard. It isn't going to be any different on August 1st, Sept 1st, October 1st.......probably good long beyond that point.
Mrs MagicGreengrocer has twice told me a story about a customer who told her she'd binned a supermarket-bought pineapple because it was past its BB date. Was it bad? Mrs MG asked. No, it was still unripened but the woman believed it had to be chucked because of an arbitary date on its little cardboard label................Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

But I would also say that if you haven't eaten it within date, is it something you'd eat anyway? We had some fish that had been knocking around it the freezer. Kept putting off eating it so made ourselves to not waste it. Liked all individual ingredients but still didn't really enjoy the meal and wouldn't buy it again. Nothing wrong with it but life's too short for things we don't love.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Gray Queen. Hello and thank you.
The x2 items for the bin was small amount of mint jelly in bottom of jar and the other was some kind of chilli sauce adult DD bought and did not like.
I am quite good at turning food around and using it.
I did put back some herb and spice little jars, just out of date. i think they keep well.
I grocery shop once a week in Tesco. Always come home with Lots of YS food. We often speak of the variety of food I would not dream of paying full price for.
I always take a shopping list of needs.
The program was on the food channel. I saw it at 9.30pm and it was half way through. I could not find it again. not that good at looking.
I should think it may be part of a series so may catch it again.
There was just so much food... enough for a mini supermarket and all just getting old and dated. They were still buying more!
Take care. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
afternoon all, just going through my shelf in the bathroom,
how long do perfumes last, i know i put some in the bin a few weeks back cos its was suggested they dont last longer than 7 years, and these were a lot older than that, and still brand new. (ones i had from avon when i was a rep) grabbing them when they were on offer and at christmas etc and getting too many planning on using them myself.
but i was gifted nicer and more expensive ones that had taken precedence, but going through a few things i have found a few others, not quite sure how old they are, but the couple i have smelt seem to be ok. not all of them avon. but im not sure what to do with them as i know i dont particurly need that many. any ideas please. most of them seem to have been sprayed at least once just to know what the smell was when i had them.
and how many shower gels does one person need lol, for years my nan buys loads of shower gels and shampoos, puts them in a big box and i get them for christmas, but due to my dr prescribing me a wash to use(hibiscrub) i dont get to use the nicer smelling ones that often, (unless my skins clear or me and hubby are going out), so ive just suggested he use my dove stuff than go buying himself some as he seems to be running low.
looks like im on my last bottle of shampoo tho, and i have 3 bottle of conditioner, that i rarely use, dont always needs it depending on how my hair is at the time, use of it too often seems to make my hair greasy so i only use it if i decide to put a colour on my hair for a couple of washes afterwards if the colour has dried it out too much. witch is usually part of the reason i decide to colour my hair, its either too greasy so i use it to dry it out a little, or i just fancy a change.
but back to the main point, whats the best option for these perfumes i got. (shower gels will eventually get used) i will more than likely get more as gifts so dont really need all i have there. what would you do especiallly as most have been sprayed.0 -
I wonder sometimes if I have a tendency to food hoarding. My cupboards & freezer are always full & I do have a tendency to feel slightly panicky if there's too much space! And there's that lovely feeling that you're ready for anything, when your stocks are high & in good order. But that said, I still seem to be feeding a small horde and it doesn't last long, even if it looks a lot to other people's eyes; I went through one of the kitchen cupboards the other day & only had to throw out some rice & pasta that had somehow spilt from their packets. And I do sometimes get close to running out of things.
Just sent a huge bag of fabric scraps off with a Freecycler and am about to offer an entire bed. I did wonder for a moment whether I could hang onto it somehow, maybe in DS3's room... before realising that that's just plain ridiculous! We don't have space for it and we don't need it any more; someone else should have the use of it. Interesting to note how my instinct was not to part with it, even though we need it like a hole in the head.
The room DS2 & TDiL are moving back into is now clear of my stuff. There's space in the garage for the things they don't need often, and one or two large pieces of furniture. But the rest of the house is indescribable... total chaos. There's still a week and a half until my stock can move out, and DS1 is coming home next weekend... heyho, onwards & upwards. There's still a LOT of stuff that could & should go to someone else who can use it, rather than being stuffed into my porch or conservatory.
ETA: anirtak, how about offering them on your local Freecycle, making it clear they have been sprayed so probably for use by the recipient, rather than selling on?Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
thank you thrift wizard will see if theres any interest, just not sure how old they are, some in the past 4-5 years i would think some maybe older one or 2 newer, but getting the order right would be a puzzle i couldnt work out lol.
on the shelf under the sink i found another 3 conditioners, no idea how long they been there as i thought it was only cleaning stuff i had down there, hubbys excess shaving gel, and my wax strips.
also found 2 new moisturisers, 1 with glitter in?
no idea how long i had them either, the glittery one i had probably bought as a gift and never got round to giving it as i cant see why i would have bought that for myself.
maybe will offer the normal one to my nan as i dont really use a lot of moisturiser other than the one i get again from the dr(dermol) to combat the drying out of the skin the hibiscrub can occasionally cause.0 -
I don't know if you could donate them to a women's refuge.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
