WW.. I love going through child cupboards.. relevant child sorts their clothes into piles.. trousers, shirts, jumpers etc.. we go through 1 pile at a time.. .. no thinking or procrastinating... rapid fire .. does this fit? do you like it? will you wear it? .. if the answer to any of those is no it gets flung and I say 'so why is it in your cupboard? Hardcore flinging!!
2 more binbags of rubbish flung.. it is definitely breeding!! 3 pairs of pants and a sock binned
Fireplace in front room cleared and wiped.. it looks so much nicer now and lots of torn baby books binnedLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
We ended up going out to the park for an hour with DD. She was being a bit of a pain today, but the fresh air and sunshine has mellowed her. The sun was still warm and low and there was no one around so I had a go on the slide. Twice. The first go was not so good as my skirt came up and I was sliding down on my knickers with my skirt billowing up. Obviously then I needed another go to sort put my technique.
Came back and got her showered, pj's and blowdried. DH has vacuumed so it all looks better.
I had got all DD's clothes out and into piles and got a small pile of clothes that are too small or that I don't like. Then DH went through it and did some more sorting so there is probably a carrier bag full to go. Much more than I expected so I am pleased. Some was more wintery stuff that worked in Spring but will be outgrown by autumn. DH has also cleared another unit of his stuff that we will use for DD's stuff. As he had refused to be bothered with it earlier, it was a good surprise that it was done.
I have a book to finish tonight and then that can go to my brother.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Two items sold on Ebay, half a car full of stuff going down onto my stall tomorrow, a bag & a box of fabric & other random crafty items to put on Freecycle in a mo, & the room DS2 & the trainee-daughter-in-law are moving into is nearly clear. I need to make some more space in the garage as they need to store a big wardrobe, so more sorting tomorrow...
You should see DS1's room - well, no actually, you shouldn't. I have to admit it looks like a hoarder's paradise; there's a clearly defined track through the middle so I can get to things safely, but it's stacked high and the bed isn't usable. If he comes home for a bit, he'll have to sleep on the spare bed in DS3's room. My stock is in the centre, groaning clothes rail down one side (no room to put the second one up) and boxes of stuff on the other. This will all be going out for the festival in two weeks and hopefully, if I've judged it right, less than half will come back, which should then be able to go into my shed. The sewing station is set up under the window, and the bed has 6 boxes of fabric, lace and trimmings stacked on it, and 5 pairs of vintage curtains, which will be going for sale soon too. These are supermarket fruit boxes, BTW, so not that big or heavy.
On the other side is the old furniture, still containing some bits of DD2s that she doesn't seem to be able to part with but doesn't seem to need either - bad sign! And the furniture I actually want to use in there. And behind that, stacked floor to ceiling, 30+ boxes all full of football programmes... he will buy a collection of hundreds just to get hold of one specific one. But sadly he won't then part with the ones he didn't want... I can't throw stones, in my own way I'm just as bad, but between us it's quite ridiculous!
The good thing is that nearly all of it is contained in one room now, and it's all been sorted out. I know what is where and that I can pack the vehicles going to the festival quickly & efficiently. I can mend the few items that still need a few stitches or buttons, without having to clear the kitchen table of DD1's work stuff. As long as no-one goes in there to hunt for something & turns it all upside down...Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Evening all.
Visited with my folks for about 24 hours during the weekend and took the Frankensheet and a mended shirt back there and then brought some of the was-Mum's-wardrobe-before-decluttering to the city to go to my chazzer.
We also watched a film from their film stash so will declutter that, too.
Homestead looking rather better. I am having a mass biro death phemomenon today. Several fell off the perch both at work and at home. You can barely find a biro in my office so we normally bring our own scrounged ones in; I had one disappear off my desk during the course of the day but it may wander back by tomorrow, these things happen.
Spent a few hours' at my Nan's bungalow. She's been in hospital for a month now and may or may not be well enough to come home. I had some stuff off high shelves and vacuumed and dusted, and then damp-dusted and dried and reassembled stuff. It was well above her eye level so not surprising that it hasn't been seen. I also put the fear of Henry into some spiders, but managed to only suck up their webs and not themselves.
Have added to the homestead by one cushion from the chazzer but it was an impulse buy which matches my new-to-me Next curtains from Easter Monday bootsaling, so very pleased and felt it had to come home with me. I'd been debating a cushion for some time and there it was.Sweet.

Thriftwizard, your place sounds like ours, stock everywhere - you'ld never know we have separate premises for the business - and frequent complaints from DD and DS as to when our "stuff" will be out of their rooms. There's a massive delivery just arrived, blocking the hallway. I thought of hiding it in DD's room "temporarily", but don't fancy the fall out just now. It's amazing how one perfects the sideways walk over time.
Just told DS we were crabs in a previous life, after his "Mum! Really??!!" response to the latest hallway additions, and that we need to keep up our skills for this life :-)0 -
Yesterday I chucked 2 binbags of rubbish from the big girls room.. it was vile in there.. it is merely messy and cluttered now.. 2 girls in that tiny room is pushing it somewhat!
another binbag was deposited at charity shop, the stuff my sister didn't want for my niece and I was too lazy to ebay!
I need to go through 2 boxes from the landing for ebay charity.. actually, I shall instruct OH to bring them down so I can do those today.
The car boot is still full of charity boxes which I really need dumping asap.. I might have OH detour past the shops on the way home from school later and drop them in .. we will need the car boot for the stuff he is after taking to the tip I think.
Hallway decluttered yesterday so that was half a binbag, it is in the middle room waiting for the rest of the bag to be filled before going out.. I've filled 1.5 wheelie bins this week so hopefully we won't have much general rubbish before next Tuesday!!
Lunch and then cracking on with the flinging .. It is quite liberating to be taking my flinging upstairs now the downstairs is quite decluttered.. far far from ok but so much better!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
After a few months of avoiding the de-cluttering i think something has snapped in my head because now I can't stop.
So I have just emerged from under my bed. Blimey I could have stuffed a mattress with the amount of dust under there. Whats even more surprising is that there is space for dust with the amount of rubbish and stuff. Anyway one bin bag filled, the huge fabric stash dated with a date six moths from today and a pile of clothes for the charity shop. I have had my fabric stash for many years and have decided that if it doesn't get used in the next six months its being donated to the charity shop. I have got the summer holidays coming up so hopefully I will have a bit more space sorted to use some of it and make some desperately needed clothes........that fit the ever expanding frame.
Under the sink was cleared and cleaned on sunday while I was cooking the lunch and the stairs were cleared again yesterday. I started the big sort out of the cupboard in the bedroom last week and threw out loads. This needs to be finished but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.
I don't know whats happened to my brain but I hope it carries on. Perhaps a normal, tidyish life is possible.1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%

Sounds like great progress, parsniphead. The unexpected consequence of dehoarding for me is that I find my children in bizarre places. I was reading on the bed the other evening, and there was an almighty bellow: I'M UNDER THE BED, CAN YOU HEAR ME? I nearly jumped out of my skin.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Parsnip.. I am the same.. I daren't stop and I find it really hard to switch off. I get in my head that these tasks WILL be done and I cannot rest until they are completed.. I do have obsessive behaviours too which doesn't help.. though if I could go to the extreme of total minimalist I would be a very very happy bunny! I do think the shunshine makes a big difference too.. all that lovely vitamin D spurring you on with happiness.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
