  • I love that word 'wibble.'

Have decluttered the patio of two bucketfuls of weeds today, using my wickedly sharp weed remover.

Even better is that my new allotment partner is going to declutter the allotment of various bits and pieces that looked useful to a number of former occupants. I do admire these strong women that can lift an old window frame or a bit of old fence panel without thinking about it.

Am slowly working through my emigrating friend's gift of three bags of jumpers by wearing a new one each day. I'm the kind of person that has to wear something before I know if I like it, which is why 'real' shopping is so risky. I've often paid decent money for something that feels uncomfortable after half an hour but it's impossible to take it back. Charity shopping is more fun and less expensive if I make a mistake.

Speaking of charity shopping, I am now officially allowed back in to 0xfam now that Lent is over. The result was two king sized duvet covers, which were needed, two pairs of jeans which could be needed and two tops that weren't really needed but it seemed rude not to.

I really will have to get back on the wagon and throw something back to 0xfam soon.

Thank you for all your lovely posts. I have enjoyed reading them all and welcome to all those brave newbies who have posted recently. This thread really does everyone a lot of good.

Well I've officially run out of things to throw out of this room. Have lost 2 storage cubes - now down to 4 cubes instead of 6 :T

Room is nice and tidy, empty and not cluttered. I like it, and so does OH :) Lets see how long it lasts now

Tomorrow I shall be hitting the school box I have collected over the years of working in a school. Get rid of those pictures that were drawn for me, and get rid of the old cards.......... if I can.

Pictures I won't have a problem with, the cards n the other hand, I will find hard as they are thank you cards from the end of the child's first year in Primary school. They came into the class as babies and left as "big girls" I have memories for each child and always put a smile on my face. I can see myself talking myself out of this exercise already lol. But if it's just a small box I'm willing to keep them. And I'm happy with that decision as I've done a hell of a clear out this week! Am proud of myself for what I have done:o

Night and God Bless everyone :)

yay looks like i have manged to sell my spare undercounter freezer i had in the cupboard in the bedroom
even tho it did get used i decided it was possibly about time i let it go.
have to say i was never really happy with it.
i had always wanted a chest freezer as you can fit more in, but my dad bought me that one, and i assume it was all he could afford at the time considering i needed one. as i didnt have one at all at the time. one of those many items id been bought by different people that i felt i was being ungrateful for as it wasnt exactly what i wanted, but was kinda happy to have it at the time.

now ive sorted out those chest of draws before i went to bed and ive cleared the cupboard, the draws have gone in there out of the way but now the room is almost back to square one as the stuff that was on the top of the draws is now not piled as neatly else where in the room. so im going to make a start on the wicker baskets and see what baby blankets i got left in them.

Well done on the freezer. It will free up a lot of space but also give you a big sense of achievement.

Snap! I haven't thought of it quite like that, but that's exactly what they pay me for too. And I'm going to remind myself of this when I go back on Monday after 11 days off 'cause no matter how much I like my job, I know my bed will pull that morning :D

    Thankyou GQ

:) No worries, pet. I like people (although some of them are more likeable than others) and some days my job is so entertaining that I think I should be paying them for the privilege.

Have just had my 12 y.o. desktop PC worked on at home by my Computer Wizard and now it has a new power unit and the large amount of fluff which had been sucked in behind the fascia bit on the tower (dunno it's proper name) has been vacuumed up. Shocking sight! :D

So, my leccy/ techy stash for the tip is now one iron, one computer mouse and one power unit. Will attend to that over the weekend. Will be lots of gardening to do, also, can't wait to get my teeth into that.

Have also started dismantling the pair of curtains I bought at the bootsale on Monday. Have deliberately shrunk them so they'll be washable in the furture and will be seperating the front from the linings, repositioning, shortening them and re-attaching the linings. Am partway thru the project but will knock off for tonight as a bit tired.

Will have a bit to eat then skeddale out to the recycling bins; I know how to live it up and no mistake. GQ xx

  • Yes well done indeed. The emotional attachment is hard to deal with when something was a present but the people who bought them don't want us to be weighted down with unnecessary bits and bobs.

Only one modest success to report: one bag to 0xfam. But it had to be done!

Just coming out of lurkdom to thank you all for your comments about hanging on to 'stuff' because of the emotional attachments. I now realise that when 'stuff' is no longer required/usable/loveable its not ungrateful or disrespectful to let it go. One of the things that has helped me with this (apart from you lovely lot) is that when I pop my clogs I realised it will mean nothing to the rest of my family & will probably be ditched anyway! Doesn't stop me having a little pang when I let it go though but go it does!

    :) Well done, silvasava.

Just think, how much Stuff might be being kept in homes across the land Because it Was Mum's. Or Nanna's or Grandad's. How strange it might be in the dearly-departed could look down and say; By gum, I never was that attached to that bliddy vase/ clock and now she's hanging onto it like it's the crown jewels, the daft besom! Get rid, girl, get rid.

Went to visit a pal who has had somewhat of a domestic disaster last month and whose home is at sixes-and-sevens whilst it dries out. She was raving about having finally discovered Freecycle after years of hearing me bang on about it, and is shedding happily left, right and centre. She's using the muddle as a springboard to sort out and declutter. More power to her elbow. I helped by taking some stuff away on my way out - consumables not keepables, tho.

Have found two more random small bits of 'wood' - hardboard- which can go with me to the tip tomorrow. Think I'll do the dump run on the way back to see if there's some stuff from the lottie which can go, too. I have bought something from the booter to replace something similar which is broken, and have had to discipline myself not to try and find a second use for this broken thing, but will be firm. I replaced it (for 20p) because it was broken, it ain't repairable and it can go. It WILL go.:p

Tonight I have lots of things which I could be doing and have decided militantantly not to do most of them. I have only just re-found the kitchen floor, having bottomed-out one of my hidey-stashes for the first time since autumn. I don't like to leave corners undisturbed for too long in case something 'orrible is going on up there.

Nothing other than a bit of dust and a cobweb. Washed the floor for form's sake as I was under there anyway. Reckon if I have supper and wash up and leave the floor clear, it's as good as it gets for a weary weekday evening.

Keep the faith, fellow travellers on the Clutterbug Express. GQ xx

I am also determinedly doing nowt having a mere weekend left of my leave before normal service resumes: unless a miraculous lottery win occurs (miraculous rather than extremely improbable because i've not bought a ticket - ta dah).

19 items from my "to do" list done, the list itself keeps getting longer than I am ticking things off :), but it is helping me chill out as once I have put something on the list i don't have to keep noticing it and worrying about it.

more random things that were presents but (shhhh) I've never liked have been put out in the cs box. so thank you all with wise words and experience there :).

bulbs and seeds have been planted, fly curtain sewn (it is so pretty that "fly curtain" doesn't do it justice), annoying flickering lamp in ds's room replaced and flickery one thrown.
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)
