Sorry I am an idiot, I thought I had taken it from their web site but it is from the receipt from Paypal, I have complained to Paypal and let them know how they are being used to trap people in to parting with money for nothing. You can clearly see how I got scammed, I am clearing not as savvy as I thought I was

This harassment by them must be illegal in itself?!

If you fancy a bit of bed time reading, take a look here: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1997/40/contents

In a nutshell, yes it is illegal in some cases but most of the time it's dealt as a civil case. Also, it would be up to you to convince a judge that you were:

    a) being harassed
    b) suffered damages as a result of being harassed

If a judge rules that the debt is unenforceable due to the various reasons discussed (and some that have not been at this present time), it could be argued you have been harassed for a debt you do not owe. Whether or not that's the case would be up to the judge.

After that you'd have to be able to show you've suffered damages as a result (unable to work, severely affected health - confirmed by a doctor most probably). I don't think "highly annoying" is enough to award you anything sadly! ;)

Check out this case between Lisa Ferguson & British Gas for a bit more insight:

All quiet for me, not sure about anyone else.

Hi, is it still all quiet? I have been instructed by a solicitor to ignore them. Also discovered their address is just a rented address, little more than a PObox and no contact number, really does not come across as a reputable company, well they wouldn't behave like this if they were would they? I have sent a really long email to the OFT address so thanks for that.

I think the growing number of people getting caught out really highlights the issue here.

The last communication I had from LegalCare was from their CEO Paul Careless in a letter dated 13th April in response to a letter of complaint I sent him - I had got sick of dealing with their rude and threatening customer services.

I sent another letter to Mr Careless on the 26th April, following advice during an initial consultation with a local solictor informing me that LegalCare are unlikely to win or even attempt to take it to the small claims court as they don't have a case. I informed him that I consider my account closed and I haven't heard anything si
I would be happy to e-mail watchdog too (Edit - Done!)

Hi, have you heard anything more?

Things have been very quiet. I have had no more communication from Legal Care since 16th May. On the 24th of May I had a letter from a solicitors (interestingly, not GBP like everyone else) I responded to them with a similar response to the last one I sent Paul Careless. I haven't had a response and have heard nothing for over two weeks now.

I've also sent an e-mail to the Office Of Fair Trading, they can't look at individual cases but they are aware of Legal Care and have added my complaint to their records. On their advice I also contacted Legal Care's local Trading Standards trading.standards@brighton-hove.gov.uk no reply from them yet though.

Before that it was like 3 weeks break. I'm glad people started posting on this forum again. I did write to Office of Fair Trading so hopefully they do sth about it.

Sorry to disappoint you but Paypal will not do anything as they do not cover services only goods. I already complained for nothing.

Paypal have ignored me completely. My gripe was that they are enabling Legalcare to keep scamming people. Does anyone know who decided on the wording to the email, Legal care or Paypal? I have never had anything like it from Paypal before and I use them a lot.

Nothing on my end yet either. Either they're just trying it on or they might be waiting to do a bunch of claims at the same time, since they will all be pretty much identical.

Whatever anyway, life goes on. I just hope other people see this before they sign-up: for the dozen or so on here that are now wise to it, they'll be at least 4 times that number who'll have just given in and paid. With any luck OFT/trading standards can intervene and sort this fly-by-night.
