elise.....have another suggestion with regards to fashionable head wear.

Had you considered one of these? They come with attached hair so you'd be covering all bases so to speak. ;)

They're all the rage up my neck of the woods.

    (Not really. :rotfl:)

Maybe you could start a new trend? I can see your students joining in with this one, you know. :D

  • Hi Elise,

My S-I-L specialises in Manual Lymphatic Drainage, sounds awful, but it's a really gentle massage technique Google it as I'm not allowed to post links and you'll find the official website. She treats a lot of women post mastectomy. If you get a good therapist they will teach your OH how to do it and it really improves movement and reduces swelling and pain in your arm. Some Macmillan centres will provide it FOC or at a small fee, but it's one of those things you have to ask about as it's not always offered. Hopefully now your line's in you won't have to dread the chemo quite so much.
Is there anyone who could take your 13yo off for a good long chat, does school know? Macmillan do a downloadable guide for 12-18yos, maybe his older bro could look at it first and then pass it on? I love my 4 teens to bits, but most days there's one i could cheerfully strangle!
Hope your day is better today, (((hugs)))) - gentle of course!

If you want to smile, google 'hats with hair'. :rotfl:

I saw something like this in a charity shop the other day. Only the hat part was more pink and matched the plaits better. :D

As for the missing nipple, one of my friends has had one tattooed on. She's in her 60s, and a church leader, and is VERY proud of her tatt.
Signature removed for peace of mind

    I've been Money Tipped!
Well, I have clinic today and my 3rd cycle on Wefenesday. Last week was supposed to be my 'good' week, but I seemed to have spent it sleeping. My ankles have puffed up, prob due to lack of exercise and I've got a bloody itchy rash on one of them. Sigh.

My Hickman appears to be ok, but really scabby (Ick) under the plastic stuff they use. The nurse put it on really tight last week so it tugs every time I move which is not pleasant.

I did have a lovely Sunday Lunch with my OH yesterday. It was so nice to go out, even if he did want me to wear my wig. It went ok; wig didn't slip or blow off but was itchy and felt like it kept shifting.

Do your veins eventually go back to normal? I keep doing the stretching exercises but they just seem to exacerbate the pain and redness.

Not looking forward to this next cycle

    Hi
My wife went thru this in 2000 at the age of 44.
She had a lumpectomy followed by 6 chemos, radiotherapy and 5 years of tamoxifen.
All fit and well still and enjoying life.
I have said before there is light at the end of the tunnel it's just a bloody long tunnel.
    Good luck with your treatment.

Hi Elise. Hope your treatment goes ok today.
My mastectomy in a week today. Scary. And it is a radical mastectomy as I have IBC inflammatory BC- all off back to the muscles and as much skin removed as possible as the skin was involved - red and orange peel look. Looks normal now after chemo but still got to come off. So no reconstruction for me until after rads. And they told me 5 surgeries will be needed to reconstruct.
I had awful mouth thrush and ulcers. Only last week got full taste buds back so have started on the 5 boxes of chocs untouched since christmas. Chocolate tasted vile up til last week.
Hugs to you today thru the crap

Cripes Catzoo; 5 surgeries! I shouldn't be such a moaning minnie!!

Saw my consultant today and my hormone treatment will be Tamoxifen for 5 years by mouth, so that's not too bad, I guess. Unfortunately I have to have 3 weeks of daily RT and I have to travel to Coventry for that, which is a real PITA!! He said they'll try and give me appointments that will fit in with my return to work, thankfully, as he can see I'm going mental with nothing to do. That will start 4 weeks after my last chemo session so the holiday will have to wait until August.
Luckily I have found somewhere in Northern Greece for £634 for a fortnight, so I have that to look forward to, and Pinkinsure have quoted me and OH £42 for the trip.

I will have to have my implant replaced after the RT though as it melts it :(

Unhappily they couldn't draw any blood from my Hickman today, so I had to be stuck again :(. It flushed ok though, and the nurse said that happens occasionally, especially as I have thin, kinky veins.
I was in and out in under an hour today so so OH stayed off work a bit longer and we went to a little Portugese cafe and I had a huge cream pineapple slice with my latte :D

Feeling more or less normal, so I'm going to get dressed after sending kids off in the morning(instead of back to bed for 2 hours), go into town for breakfast, and have a nice morning shopping.

Then 3rd cycle on Wednesday evening: blehhh!

Well I've had my 4th cycle and am in unbelievable pain today. The Filigestin must be really going to town on my bone marrow. OH is going to get me some cocodamol as paracetamol isn't doing much.

Weight has gone up again and I'm like a weeble now. Trying desperately to keep away from the 18stone mark but its not helping that the steroids make me nauseous if I don't eat and anything with fibre in is setting off my IBS.

At least I only have 2 more of these to go :'(
