Thinking about it, I don't think I'm ready to go back to work on Wednesday. My manager suggested I take next week off and see how I feel a week tomorrow. I'll see what the hospital say Tuesday.

Take it easy with that ankle SA. If you don't feel up to work, stay at home.

Hope you gave a good day today.

Another vote for a phased return, my boss pushed me to return by arranging and paying for a taxi for me. It was full time and so hard getting around on crutches. I had damaged the muscles etc and ended up in a lot of pain after the plaster was removed and for weeks and weeks paying my Osteopath to work weekly on the damage. Take care. x

I'll think about the phased return. My main concern is that I don't lose out money wise. Just can't afford to come out with less money. If I don't go back until next Monday, I'll only have a week at work then I was planning to have the week after Christmas off as leave, will only need to use 3 days. Then after New Year the 6 weeks will more or less be up.

Been trying to ring the doctors today their phone has been constantly engaged. Good job it's not urgent. Firstly my sick note ended on Friday, secondly Mr SA has his groin fungus thing back (jock rot :))

    Kitchen planners coming at 1pm.

Sent Mr SA out to fetch the Soap & Glory set he ordered at the weekend. Used the vouchers I got from work a few weeks ago. Very pleased with it, the stuff will last me ages.

Kitchen place came. Tried to stop Mr SA interfering, he asked a couple of daft questions but the chap didn't catch what he said thankfully. I've warned him he's not interfering with the kitchen planning, he's not the one who does the cooking. He knew we wouldn't be getting a price today as the kitchen place only supplies to builders and it all has to be designed first and the builder then goes on to supply the quote to include fitting. But he still asked how much it would be!

Obviously I still have to borrow the money for the work, can't go any further at the moment until the quotes are in. Was going to re-mortgage but Tesco are doing a very competitive rate over 7 years with affordable repayments. I need to be able to afford the repayments solely on my wages. I can't take Mr SA's benefits into account as anything could happen in the next 7 years.

After struggling with the Henry Hoover again today I decided to order a lightweight corded stick hoover (Shark) from Argos. It had brilliant reviews - I'm not bothered about it being cordless and I really can't justify paying £300 or more for one. It's being delivered tomorrow morning. We'll keep the old hoover for more heavy duty cleaning like decorating.

Never managed to get through to doctors so will try again tomorrow.

Stitches out tomorrow afternoon. Really not looking forward to it. SIL rang to see if I still need a lift. I nearly said no it's ok I'll get a taxi then decided I really must start taking people up on offers of help.

Feeling a bit more cheerful now, obviously still feeling upset at not being able to get about but it won't be too much longer now hopefully.

  • Hello - re phased return, I would say yes to that. My job obviously didn't care (hell I was in work with the Elephant man's ankle at one point) and I didn't have the balls to say anything but it is just over a year ago now and my ankle still hurts if I go on a long walk or do a lot of gardening/shopping etc. It needs way more rest than I realised at the time.

Am very jealous of the shark. :)

Also re the kitchen money - have a look see if there are loans you can over pay as and when, I used to love that about the Halifax loan, could pay the regular payment and anything extra without a fee. It was an incentive for me to get shot of it.

Thanks all. Beanie I've got the metal clips for stitches. Buffy I bank with Halifax so might be worth looking at. We've had loans from Tesco before for Mr SA's vans so have good payment history with them. Although this time the amount will be a lot higher. Have been referred to work's OH just had message from them saying they'll ring me tomorrow at 2.30 just when I'll be having my stitches out. Good timing!
