well done peanut and dawny:j :j :j
As for diet savers def cucumber slices if it is really bad, snack wise an apple or banana but if it is out of timings then def cucumber slices, celery sticks takes ages to crunch, sugar free jelly, lots of hot water and lemon to confuse the hunger pangs, pepper slices especially the red ones, I have just discovered rocket salad that has a peppery sharpness to it and some of that makes me believe that I have eaten and have a hot tongue for a while!!
Put rasberries or strawberries cut very finely onto oatsosimple porridge in the mornings, that is lovely or like you said a banana, sugar asks for sugar so you are right the docs say if you give into sugar all you crave is more so it is catch 22, there is no nutritional value in sugar and it has more calories than many other things you could have for the same value....
Remember at the local shop the 1st 3 aisles are the diet friendly ones where the diary/meat/fruit/veg is and then it goes downhill from there, refuse to go down the terrible aisles, keep safe in the 1st three!!!0 -
Hi Guys
What a day!!
Was on way to Costco to stock up when DH says 'ooh, we could get some of those lovely danish buns they do'
My whole body cringed - literally!!
I can't deal with this I thought, not on my first day.
So I remembered what dellybelly said about writing it down on this thread but as you weren't in the car with me I wrote it down on paper.
It worked - we bought 24 of them and have frozen them in pairs, he ate 2 straight away and I had a banana :j
I feel good!!!
I am writing a diary of what I eat and feel, maybe I will publish it one day when I'm at goal:rolleyes:0 -
No prob ... heres the recipe:
4oz All Bran
4oz brown sugar (I use 10 grammes splenda instead)
10oz dried fruit (I use sultanas but you could use any dried fruit in any combination...apricots/dates etc)
Half a pint of milk (I use soya ... but i find i need much more than half a pint and usually end up topping the mix up with water after mixing the flour in because otherwise it is way too dry)
14oz wholemeal self raising flour (I use Tesco Value S.R. Flour)
Optional: Add half teaspoon cinnamon and half teaspoon of mixed spice.
You soak the All Bran/sugar and fruit in the milk for 30 mins. Then you mix in the flour (and spices) and turn into two 1lb greased loaf tins.
I actually don't own a loaf tin (let alone two) so I just use a regualr 8" circular cake tin.
Bake for 1hr at 180degrees C. I usually put a circle of greaseproof in the bottom as well as one on the top of the cake to stop the top surface turning rock hard
After it is cooked/turned out and cooled - I usually slice it into 'snack size peices and bag it. It stores well in the fridge for several days and it freezes well too. It's pretty indestuctible
I take a bag out with me when I'm taking the kids to swimming after school or if I'm going to be out for any great length of time. That way - when I get hungry I just reach into my bag for the loaf instead of heading for the nearest sweetie shop!!!0 -
Well done Annie ... that's what I call willpower:beer:0

hiya, I had been reading about the weight club on peoples sigs and had looked for the thread but couldn't find it. Then by chance I came accross you.
I was diagnosed as being diabetic last year and I am supposed to be on a maintainance diet, that's a laugh I have always been 'over weight' but I am seriously worried about my health. I will be 42 in a few weeks and have tried every diet known to man. Soooooo I am giving up dieting and am going to start a healthy eating plan, I would like to join in here if that is possible. I am quite new to this site and will need some help. If Someone would be kind enough to Pm me I would so grateful.
Thankyou for any help.

Hi Karen - welcome to the thread (and the forum!). There's lots of regulars on the thread and we're all doing different things - some people follow Weightwatchers or Slimming World, some of us are counting calories, and others just trying to eat healthily and cutting back. As you've been diagnosed with diabetes has your doctor given you some advice about what to avoid?
Feel free to ask any questions, there's usually someone around to help.

Victory - your mum sounds like a combination of my mother and my MIL. My mum would kill you with kindness, on one hand she'd tell me that I need to lose weight and on the other she's out in the kitchen making a cup of tea and bringing in biscuits and all sorts of stuff that's bad for me. But one of my clearest memories as a child is of my mum brushing my hair (I'm blessed with very thick healthy hair) and saying that you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. and she put me on my first "diet" when I was 14. (I've seen the photos, I didn't need to lose weight). But that set me on the spiral of hating myself, always thinking I'm fat etc. and it's taken me a very long time to move beyond all of that (one of the reasons why I recommend Dr. Phil - not for the diet, but to help you "heal feelings" that might cause you too put on weight).
My MIL just thinks that because she's from Dublin, she has a licence to be rude and frequently has been. It's only been in recent months that I've taken steps to let her know it's not acceptable. It has been EXTREMELY difficult but it is worth it as things are starting to get better.
I'd love to have advice for you, but at 80 years old your mother really is too old to change now. Its best that you keep doing what you're doing and laugh it off!
Annie :j Well done you! Remember now how you feel at choosing to not eat those danish - It feels way better than actually eating them. A great start to your week.
I must admit, I freqently forget that I'm choosing to eat the nasty stuff instead of choosing to be thin..... I must start affirming to myself:
! I CHOOSE TO BE THIN. :A
