There is a roofer I do business with that is highly recommended when you have finlock gutter problems. He covers the south west part of England. Steve Friend who has a firm called SFRoofing co uk

You should watch out for this rogue trader featured on this bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/4DQ6WnfJnrzyK1h209MyDZK/rogue-traders-finlock-solutions-ltd

    Hope this helps.

    George.

P.S. I can't post the links but I am sure you will work it out.
  • Just having work done by concrete gutter replacements limited will let you know how it goes!
My neighbour is having it done too!I too live in essex....

We too are having concrete gutter replacements to remove our gutters next week
I'm a little nervous about having it done as I've read some bad things about various companies. Has yours been completed yet?

Please choose very carefully. I used Roof Guard Solutions (now gone bust) in 2011 and am currently looking for a roofer to fix it as water is leaking in.

We used Mw Roofline who reline or replace. Their reviews on yellow pages are very good. They relined ours though so I can only vouch that the relining worked.

Beware of 1st and only posters recommending companies like the one a few posts above mine as you'll usually find they are the same company!

I have worked with concrete gutter systems for many years as a surveyor to housing associations and a local authority.
I now run a small design and build company which works throughout the UK.
I have done several concrete gutter replacements and take a slightly different approach to the so called "established companies". I have written a full guide to concrete gutter replacement (its about 5 A4 pages long). I don't know how to do it, but I would be happy to PDF it and send it to any interested parties, or provide a link. I have worked with manufacturers and suppliers and have a fully specified replacement system, with all the necessary structural and thermal calculations. The major problem with concrete gutter is cold bridging which tends to manifest itself as condensation and mould to the inner wall. A major failure with the general "cut off method" is that it fails to adequately raise the thermal qualities of the concrete gutter. We have a comprehensive concrete gutter replacement system that is uniquely designed and engineered to address the problems with concrete gutters at a reasonable price. Most people aren't aware, but there is a legal issue with concrete gutters in respect to The Party Walls Act 1996 (just google it or ring a local chartered surveyor who I am sure will explain free of charge). If not dealt with correctly this could leave you open to litigation on properties with party structures or party walls. We are the only company in the uk to recognise this, and provide assistance, at no extra charge. We don't employ salesmen, just a surveyor and our fitting team. Yes, we are small, but we can provide all the advantages of a larger company with independent warranties etc. We can provide references and we work to a fixed cost with no up-front charges. Anyone considering concrete gutter replacement is welcome to contact us and we are happy to advise in any situation.

I'm currently in the process of looking to resolve the issue with my finlock conrete gutters, could you send me through the full guide to concrete gutter replacement that you've written as would like to know my options. Had a number of quotes and companies come out but the reviews on this forum seem to knock them all!!

OK so after following this thread for about three years we saved up and finally bit the bullet, we went with TLG.

I really wasn't interested in anyone else's overinflated initial pricing and phoney sales talk. I also wasn't interested in taking a gamble on my property with some pop-up company under another, clean name (lookin' at you kid). Some of the other companies' sites set the alarm bells going for me with fake reviews and the same old couple posing in different photos under different 'customer's names... pretty cringeworthy really. If you're gonna make up fake reviews at least make it convincing.

I did contact a few others out of curiosity and actually TLG came out as cheaper than one (who suggested paying in cash...) and roughly the same price as another, but with far superior materials. So if you think they're out of your price league, think again. I was pleasantly surprised after reading how much others have paid various companies in this thread.

I reckon there's a high proportion of fake reviews on this thread alone, also a few of the really negative ones. That only adds to the confusion when you're trying to pick a company who won't f- up your house. But like I said I am glad we could afford TLG. The job has been done to an excellent standard, and looks really fantastic, as far as gutters go! Really, I couldn't be happier.

Off to replaster and paint my ceilings to make my house look a bit better after years of damp and water ingress.

Yes I have only made one post- no it is not fake - I joined the forum to report back (I wish more people would bother doing that) - and will hopefully get some DIY help elsewhere on here at some point as I'm a complete newbie to the horrors of maintaining bricks and mortar, subfloors and DPC. Have mercy.

    Cheers:beer:

Brilliant review 'moneypit9'. You're right there are fake reviews out there - sad isn't it that people can't make an honest buck without cheating!

I did a post on here a few years ago after having TLG and they did an excellent job in removing the concrete guttering. We have since sold the property but left all the relevant paperwork with the new owners as it was still under guarantee. I would recommend TLG again a) for the workmanship, b) they cleared everything away (you would think they should but that's not always the case these days!), c) for the price - they were better than any other quote we received.

Good luck with your DIY - your skills will improve over time but unfortunately it will probably mean you make a few mistakes along the way - it's all a learning curve, like life!!

Rather bizarre that they are recommending a company that hasn't actually done any work on their home. Hardly the most robust endorsement...I met a bloke briefly who seemed very nice so everyone should use his company!

Do people really fall for this nonsense?

Wow its been taken down by the mods already, that was quick.
  • I posted yesterday about a contractor I had seen working on a neighbour's concrete gutters. I said the work looked really good. I said I have now asked the firm to do my concrete gutters. So, I have commented on what looked like good concrete gutter work I saw in progress, but I didn't recommend anyone, I just brought the firm to the attention of readers of this thread. What's wrong with that? I have read on this thread about people who know of firms who did this work but who haven't personally used them, or haven't yet had them do their work! All I have done is make what I thought was a useful comment, for people like me who have been considering the options. I too, like others posting on here, will give an appraisal of the works on my property when complete. I hope some readers may find it useful.
