Parsnips were down to 5p last night :) just blanching them for the freezer now. They also had wheels of brie down to 50p and Christmas joints of pork/gammon half price.

hi does anyone know when waitrose and sainsburys do there 2nd mark down on the christmas stock ? cant remember if it is before new years day
    many thanks

Sainsburys, the 2nd mark down started today.
I bought a 2.2kg gammon joint for £3 (was £10) and has date of 8th Jan. Normally the. 750g gammons are part of the 3 for £10.
Other things I saw were in-store bakery mince pies 30p for 4., pannetone large for £1.30. Makes a fab bread and butter pudding.

Each Sainsburys may have different things left depending on what's left.

A nice gesture from Sainsbos! I stopped off for a Christmas drink earlier just as Oxford Street stores were closing, and was saddened by the number of homeless (by that I mean single people surrounded by a fortress of their worldly possessions desperately trying to keep warm). Wouldn't it be lovely if supermarkets shared their unsold perishable food with those that have nothing?

Actually, Sainsbury's this year have donated 60,000 turkeys to food banks around the country - our local food bank received theirs on Tuesday before Christmas and was able to order the number they wanted, so they were not left over ones.

I think the cheeseboards will be reduced today, tomorrow or 2nd.

  • Anyone any idea what time reductions will hit today being New Years Eve. I've had some fab bargains New Years Eve before but really cannot remember what sort of time it was.

I am not as hopeful as previous years because three of the big four supermarkets around my area are open tomorrow - two of them for the first time so I am not expecting to see the big New Year's Eve purge of unsold items that have helped me fill my freezer before!

Will depend entirely on if the store is open tomorrow , and what stock they have left. There is no such thing as a standard time ( even across stores in the same chain ) .
