Reduced bargains and yellow stickers shopping

  • Can anyone tell me the best times to go yellow sticker shopping around Christmas as I heard that tomorrow before closing can be really good? I nipped into Mr T today and they had loads of reductions which no one seemed to be touching and they weren't yet reduced enough for me - wondering whether it may be worth popping back tonight!
  • Some friends of ours got some brilliant reductions on meat in Sainsbury's a couple of Christmas Eve's ago. This was mid afternoon but I don't know if they were just lucky or if it's the best time for reductions!

I usually go about 2pm but this year our Tesco is open until 7pm tonight so not sure... might still go at 2pm and then go back on the way to my daughter's at about 5pm.

I generally get enough food to see us well into the new year... good job we like sprouts!

I popped into town today and picked up a chicken crown for £3 (half price in T*sco) and a 1.8kg lamb shoulder for £3.50 in W*itrose. T*sco had lots of turkeys (joints, crowns etc) half price.
  • It was a total scrum in Tesco Extra Bournemouth at 4.30ish. There were heaps of fruit and veg reduced to between 2p and 20p, got a small rack of lamb for 91p, large trifle for 20p, mini scotch eggs 30p a pack, wafer thin turkey 30p. There were a few turkeys, but there was almost a punch up in the crowd diving for them. I ruled myself out of that one as frankly, it was all a bit desperate.

Local Co Op had Christmas pudding cheesecake at 99p reduced from £4,6 mini pork pies 75p, smoked salmon 1.25p and lots of cheap veg.

Didn't do anything like as well as last Christmas Eve. People seem to have forgiven Tesco a lot of their sins and are shopping there again. Last year I filled the freezer with meat and fish at 75% plus off.

Well at 6pm tonight my local waitrose closed its doors with over 60 Turkeys in the fridge, all use by 26th December, they are not open again until 27th. The Turkeys had been reduced by approx £10 each but most were still £50plus - the store refused to reduce them any further, there were approx 6 people waiting and waiting, and left the store without turkey. I wonder what will happen to those turkeys!

    Or Frozen

I was in WR this evening and overheard the manager on the phone asking what to do with the remaining birds and whether to go beyond the 50% they had already done.

Today is certainly my Christmas (the rest of the time is dire beyond belief). Picked up good selection of veg and the above mentioned Turkey. Not the biggest reduction in the world but about £3 a kg so not horrendous.
