My local Mr S usually has scones and scotch pancakes reduced along with iced ring doughnuts, pastries and bread rolls/maybe a few small loaves.
The chilled section and meat reduced areas are generally more hit-and-miss.
I've had whole garnished and stuffed chickens for £3, mince for £1.99, salmon for £1.99, quiche Lorraine for 50p, fancy sausages for £1 but that's the good days.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. For me that's a bad day, a good day for me is timing it right in tesco when everything is 10% of its normal value
One woman I was chatting to managed to bag a leg of lamb, which was £29 for £2.90!
I didn't pay more than 40p for an item that day and I came away with chicken breasts, lamb chops, pork chops, mince, wall 24 packs of sausages and other bits. My total spend that day was less than £4 for about £40 worth of food0 -
yes, it's well known that Waitrose do this - usually works out that the third item is effectively free but sometimes it works as a negative amount & you end up having money owed to you.
But, if you wait until 20 mins before closing, it's likely that they'll be gone as any left over will be cleared from the shelves. Better to try about 90 mins beforehand.
Occasionally, the tills don't pick up the extra discount but CS will sort that out.
Thanks for the advice - much appreciated!!0 -
I would like to add my best buy.
Sent boyfriemd to tesco to get a few bits for beach picnic. He came back with bags of doughnuts and pastries. All labeled at 1p each.
Im now very fat!lol

geordie_ben - great bargains and "freezer filling time".
I very, very rarely buy at only 50% reduction.
Tesco can be great, but not a shop I visit that often. I do like to "fleece" them though when visiting.
Morrison's can often go down to 5p or 9p (not sure why 9p though?). Great for bread reductions late Saturday or Sunday after 3.30pm in my store.
Sainsbury's is my favourite though, saved many, many £'s there.

That's pretty impressive, I wish I had a Tesco near me but my nearest s/markets are Sainsburys, Asda and Aldi. The nearest Tesco is on the other side of the city across (officially) one of the busiest roundabouts in the UK“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Had to get some fuel my local Tesco tonight (around 9pm).
Popped in just to see what was available and ended coming out with 25 items in 4 bags costing the grand sum of 30p, yes thats 30p.
Included were bags of potatoes that were reduced from £2.25 to 1p,
Various salad items such as iceberg lettuce, beef tomatoes, cucumbers, packets of beetroot again all at 1p.
A couple of loafs of hovis bread at the more expensive 2p also found there way into my now overfilling, extremely heavy basket :rotfl:
A packet of donuts and a carton of double cream, again at 1p finished off the shop.

I managed, by a freak set of money back offers to get Tesco to pay me 24p for my shopping, they had to call the manager but i got it, i had 2 or 3 bags of reduced items, every pack of asparagas i got for 10p i got the full price knocked off my bill, some kind of 2 for 1 off.er.
My finest bargain hunting hour0 -
I've been doing this for years, but i find some very nasty grabbing impolite people about now, and a new phenomenon of recent immigrants using family members to camp out all day by the reduced shelf and hoover up everything and wait until the last reduction at night, then wheel up a trolley full. Some stores won't allow this but some do.
i also witnessed a riot in Tesco in Hayes ( London) with people panicking over old vegtables, that disgusted me. Some lady was pushed into a pile of bread ! i lost the will to live and walked out.0
