It is great to find bargains, I agree, and I'll try and remember to do a 3pm Sunday visit to Morrisons sometime.

Talking of bread, Morrisons have a "2 for £1" offer at the moment on their own brand sliced bread, which is still good, considering Sainsbury's and others are now charging 90p per loaf.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I've been on a roll lately and some great bargains this week alone.

Over £20 worth of food for a tad over £5 on Sunday. Quite a few bits for around £1.50 Monday and some salmon fillets yesterday for 99p (from £4).

I'll have to ease off for a few weeks to clear some of it. lol
I love bargains at 70%+ off and Tesco reduce by 80% (and maybe more).

    Happy hunting.

  • For me, the best time at my local Mr T is Sunday afternoon (over here, shops open on Sunday 1.00 to 6.00pm. If the carpark across the road from Tesco's is empty, I know it's a quiet afternoon (if there's an overspill into it from the main Tesco carpark, it's a busy day...) and things get marked down more, or rather there isn't as much competition from people buying at the first mark-down.

Best recently was a chicken (Finest free-range) marked down to £1.28. Cooked that evening for supper, then the remains made 6 helpings of chicken saag with spinach marked down to 30p for a big bag!
  • If you purchase 3 reduced Price Items , that are ALSO labelled "3 for 2", you will be charged 3 x REDUCED price per Item, but then REFUNDED 1 x ORIGINAL price:In most cases this will at least EQUAL the cost of your Purchase, but can mean you will be given money , just for taking them !!!!
Eg: £1.79 packs of Green Beans, Reduced to 29p each "Buy3for2":
    3 x .29 = £ 0.87
    Less £ 1.79
    (Original Price) 1.79
    Thus REFUND of
    DIFFERENCE = £ 0.92 ........... FREE BEANS , AND 92 pence CASH!

Sounds GOOD to ME ! :j

    Sounds GOOD??? Sounds MENTAL!!

Don't know what's got into Waitrose to allow this sort of thing to happen but I'm more than happy to exploit them.

Trouble is, I NEVER seem to see these yellow-sticker things at any sort of price that tempts me. Whichever supermarket I'm in, they knock 25% or so off at best.

Sounds like I need to pop in 20 minutes before they close. Not such a problem as I'm a 2 minute drive from a Tesco, Waitrose and a Morrisons.

I have tried this in Morrisons (just before they were about to close on a Sunday afternon) and...nothing! They still had loads of fresh fruit & veg and were still apparently baking new bread & cakes for some reason. NOTHING was reduced at all. What on earth? I was well miffed.

Oh well. I will try our Waitrose just before closing on a weekday to see if I can get anything there.

yes, it's well known that Waitrose do this - usually works out that the third item is effectively free but sometimes it works as a negative amount & you end up having money owed to you.

But, if you wait until 20 mins before closing, it's likely that they'll be gone as any left over will be cleared from the shelves. Better to try about 90 mins beforehand.

Occasionally, the tills don't pick up the extra discount but CS will sort that out.

It would of course be insane for a shop to pay you for taking away good food: in this situation a human being would intervene and cancel the discount.

My sister once completed a large shop at Waitrose including many items that were subject to this kind of promotion and had then been reduced. The total cost would have been negative, so in order to release the shop from the embarrassment of owing her money, she added a bottle of champagne to her trolley in order to bring the total cost to zero!

I should add that knowingly exploiting this kind of situation (getting a better deal than Waitrose could possibly have intended to offer you) is a criminal offence, and people have been convicted of this -- including a serving police officer!

Really? I'd be quite interested in reading any info on this. What law it breaks, where Waitrose stands on this etc etc

    Why would you do that?
Yes, get as close to zero as possible, but stop there, as behaviour like that will eventually get Waitrose to sort their till system, like Tesco and Sainsbury's done ages ago.
I love bargain shopping in Waitrose as it's always mental calculation exercise to get as close to zero, which is very satisfying. I tend to use self scan tills as have been to normal till where they do cancel any additional discounts manually, especially if you get jobsworth - I never bat an eyelid, just pay reduced price without extra discount and add mental note never go to that cashier again. Yes, you win some and so you can loose some, but with Waitrose quality and discount level is mostly win, but might be not as good as expected.

Few pence in your pocket today is defo not worth disappearance of very good glitch just because you are greedy...
