thanks for this. I didn't realize my package was the cheapest to terminate! I'll enjoy the free internet until the change actually happens in autumn, when, if needed, I should have only a few month left (times £3.21) if I want to terminate.

Oh no - I didn't realise about this 12 month free broadband - I'm out of contract.
    So I've missed the boat?!

Then I suggest you call O2 retentions anyway and ask for your free 12m-what have you to lose? This offer has been widely publicised on here for weeks now.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I renewed my O2 broadband contract back end of December before O2 announced the potential sale to Sky.

When I received the email back in March, I telephoned O2 and ended up speaking to a manager. He informed me that the buy out probably wouldn't go ahead for at least 18 months & by then I would be out of contract. He also said that even people still under contract could leave free of charge once the merger to Sky went through.

I telephoned them again today & spoke to one of their customer services team. He was pretty rubbish to be fair. He told me that I would have to pay a £35 cancellation fee if I wanted to leave. Now this is completely contradicting info to the info I received when I initially contacted them back in March.

For me, the way O2 have handled this has been very dubious to say the least. They have restricted the level of communications with customers regarding this whole selling off it's broadband to Sky. I really hope someone finds a loophole which they can use to cancel contracts with O2 without them charging a fee.

Out of interest - is Sky that bad?
Maybe it's better not to connect, and run while I can :)
