Suppose you could try all 3 then, lol.

Seriously, I don't understand why you wouldn't want to apply online for an online account.

In the process of opening one of these accounts they are asking for employer details, are these relevant and do I have to give them as the page won't continue without?

I cannot ever recollect having to give these details before for current or savings accounts.

    .

All accounts in recent years require this kind of info.
  • Could you not put self employed or home worker whatever the answers are in the list of occupations.
    I wouldn't recommend that.

Don't forget that banks share/cross check your application data with Fraud Prevention Agencies. Any anomalies here could come back and bite you!

I wasn't sure whether it had an effect on whether or not you could qualify for the 5%. Obviously it doesn't :)

Applying for accounts online sometimes means you have to wait for them to send you evidence letters in the post, then you have to get certified copies made at a Post Office or something, then you have to post them back with the forms recorded delivery, then you have to wait for them to process it and send you the account details in the post.

It's true though that for existing customers, background checks are usually not needed when applying online.

If you are on the Electoral Roll and the data on your CRA files agree, and you use the same data in your current account application, you are most unlikely to have to provide any further proof of identity and/or address. That is regardless of whether you are an existing or new customer.

I should know since I have successfully applied for a fair few current accounts online over the years with many banks and building societies and have never been asked to provide any additional documents.
  • I applied for all my accounts online and as of 31st August still receiving 5% on all my accounts. I never go inside a bank now. I know I am probably putting people out of a job. But I only used to go in to pay in cheques and I can do that at the Post Office now.

    Have I read this wrong.
T&Cs seem to say 5% on £2500 max but require £1000 per month to be added to get the 5% rate on the £2500.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

That's correct, but the £1K [STRIKE]can[/STRIKE] should be moved out again immediately.

Doesn't mean everyone can. I rarely get accepted without evidence. I think it's only happened once in fact.
