Two lovely drivers can't park and leave their cars so the "bay" fits just 2 cars! I.e they are 3-4ft from the start of the double yellows, so no other car can fit. My alternative is to park on a nearby street and use the spaces for other houses.
I sometimes leave notes asking them to park considerately - they're usually ignored. So I block them in with a note that I'm in noX and to knock when they want out! They will eventually get the hint - or I will get a ticket... Albeit I only do this when we are in and out doing tip runs whilst we renovate our house.
I've started a petition to the council for permit parking as the people who do this don't even live here - they are parking and walking into town/getting train to London/going to local shops.
"Two lovely drivers" are they your neighbours, or just a general statement if 2 random drivers take the 4 spaces by parking a metre from the edge of the double yellows.
The permit parking would give you a space, but at what cost? might be cheap could be an arm and a leg.0 -
When I was younger and naive, my neighboor used to think the space outside his house was his. If my girlfriend or I dared park outside his house he would dress up in his Special Constable Uniform and then come around and demand we move the car which I stupidly did.
Couple of years later he got convicted of kiddy fiddling, the next time he came around my house demanding the car was moved I knocked him out.0 -

now that's justice :rotfl:0 -
We don't have a car. Our neighbour used to work for the council maintenance division before he retired and would park his council flatbed outside our house, not his (even though there was room). After he retired two years ago, the guy further down the street, who also works for the council housing maintenance division, began parking his council transit van outside our house, and no longer outside his. I guess they're embarrassed by their jobs! I find it funny, as the new guy doing it always looks a little sheepish if I happen to walk by when he's parking up/heading out.0

We have organised our parking between us on our road with space left over for the school run parents but it all goes to pot when some idiot parks on the opposite side of the road (there is only room for parking on one side), which then not only takes up the space by it but also, to allow room for people to do the created chicane, a further 5 spaces, so hardly anyone can park at all. If they just parked on the same side, there would be no problem at all, just one lost space.
My parent's have a funny neighbour, he doesn't even live in their road but he appears to think he owns the space outside of my parent's next door neighbour's house, woe betide anyone parking there, they get a mouthful and a nasty note left on the screen! Mind you, he also believes he has the perfect right to half park over my parent's drive way, he was not a happy bunny when we asked him to move his car so that I could get my car out of the drive. For some reason, he thought I could get a massive estate car out of the drive way without hitting his car with a gap far smaller than the width of my car....laws of science said there was no way it was going to fit unless my car could somehow jump over his!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

One is a dog walker - she parks up around 9am when everyone leaves and returns around 9pm once everyone has parked elsewhere. The other is a landlord a few doors down who seems to pop in and out a lot at bizarre times. These are the worst offenders but I've seen plenty of people do it. I have had to stop caring - its drive me nuts otherwise, plus we knew parking was hard when we bought the house. I assume the houses we park near are having the same whinges about us! (Us = people from our street who can't park on it).
Btw I'd love permits, I don't care about the cost and it would/might guarantee me a space in my road. Knowing the area this might be an issue for others, so I doubt it will happen as Permits might force drivers off the road.If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -

Quoting myself as it won't let me edit!
Everyone wants permits if they're free but not if they're at a price. Most said they'd prefer potholes sorted first! If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
The people across the road from me are hilarious to watch with their patch of road. it must be firstly pointed out that these people have large drives and garages at the rear of their house but they insist on parking on the road in front of them.
One will park and the other 2 will then shuffle so that their cars are the width of their houses. This has recently been made all the more amusing for the teenage soon passing his driving test. They will park inches from bumpers to make a point. Hilarious really when as I say they have drives in their back gardens.
Last winter the woman in the middle was protecting 'her space'. It was bins night and this street is like a wind tunnel in winter. A sensible person would have put their brand new car in their own drive but not them, I'm most amused to hear a clatter in the early hours to see a bin implanted in the rear quarter of the car.
I'd like to say it taught them a lesson but they are all still as bad.0 -
The guy next door used t think he could put his bins out to reserve himself a space outside his flat down our road. Think it was because he drive a porsche that he had the right to park there?
Anyway between me and my neighbour we used to move the dustbins everytime and park there, he never said anything and after a few times gave up with his so called reserved parking. Lol0 -
Local road not mine, is now awful and I feel SO sorry for the residents.
The road isn't long but it's one way due to the width. Several drives means limited on street parking for those w/o drives. Houses are terraced so not always enough space for a car between to drives.
But there wasn't a problem until the end of the road got a huge block of flats. These flats have parking under them, but it's either one car per flat OR they have to pay? But since they have been occupied the road has been awful.
You could only ever park on the house side of the road, the other side is a school with huge 10 ft wall. But now cars park on the wall side too. It's awful trying to get down there now, and am certain anything bigger than a car wouldn't be able to. And I'm also certain that some people wont be able to access or leave their drives due to the new parked cars.
we've commented that we're suprised the resident havent complained to the council ( several parts of the road are already double yellows to allow free movement)
Then the other day we noticed cones had been placed by the council to stop cars parking against the wall. And said OH someone has complained then!!!. Next night the cars were parked between the cones LOL.
Couple of nights later there was actuall barriers to prevent parking on the wall side.
And lo and behold these barriers have been moved so the cars can park once again.
Have to say am amazed how far people will go.0
