The sensible solution would be for Councils to take action. If someone regularly reserves parking space then they should be charged a fee per day for reserving it, say £25, plus a daily Council admin fee of £100 and a daily Highways Authority admin fee of £100. If you are stupid enough to want the public space for your own use then pay for it. If there is a genuine need such as skips or removals then pay for it. The Council will rake it in too. Win win.

I have someone down the road that thinks he has the right to be the only person that can park in front of his house.

Yep. You get them everywhere unfortunately. :)

Just go for a walk one evening when they are out and take the cones along with you.

Or pop them into their wheelie bin on collection day.

I tried that and they saw me ..... just pretended that I was moving them out of my way whilst walking. Pathetic person that I am, I should have told him exactly what I thought!!!!!

You have to have a road licence for a skip already. About £70 from memory last time I had one.

I don't mind people using the space outside my house because most park considerately. You can fit 4 cars within the "bay" (a patch with out double yellows). Two lovely drivers can't park and leave their cars so the "bay" fits just 2 cars! I.e they are 3-4ft from the start of the double yellows, so no other car can fit. My alternative is to park on a nearby street and use the spaces for other houses.

I sometimes leave notes asking them to park considerately - they're usually ignored. So I block them in with a note that I'm in noX and to knock when they want out! They will eventually get the hint - or I will get a ticket... Albeit I only do this when we are in and out doing tip runs whilst we renovate our house.

I've started a petition to the council for permit parking as the people who do this don't even live here - they are parking and walking into town/getting train to London/going to local shops.

Some disabled people also think that the disabled bay outside their house is for their use only. Any disabled bays on the public highway are for use by ANY disabled people with a Blue Badge.

If someone needs a disabled parking space outside their house, and the council agree and have marked one, then in my opinion it ought to be for that householder only. If the householder can't actually use the space it might as well not be there.

Councils can only follow the law, it would require National Government legislation to allow such a thing to happen.

Well I am one of those people that put a cone outside of my house and before you all have a go let me explain why. I live 5 minutes walk from a station, and I am sick and tired of people parking their cars outside of my home and commuting to London whilst there is plenty of spaces available at the station...

I have seen places where they apply a 30-minute traffic restriction sometime during the day - at a time when all commuters will get caught by it, but local shops and businesses can still benefit from easy parking for customers. I thought it was a good solution - the charge was something like £40+ just for those 30 mins and easy to enforce.

That what they do in parts of my town to stop people abusing the free parking on housing estates. There one where the local offices don't have enough parking so they park on the housing estates. Funny enough the main road outside both doesnt have any parking issues. No lines or signs saying you cant park they so im suprised noone realised this and park there! It may be a busy A road but you are allowed to park!
