Reserving spaces on a public road

Try having to cone your allocated parking space off because some numpty who chose to buy a house with no parking thinks they're entitled to your space!
It's not ambiguous either, all the spaces have house numbers on them, and are directly opposite their corresponding house, with a sign saying "residents parking only".
Apparently, the people on the road next to mine haven't quite twigged that it means residents of the road the parking's on...0 -
My 2p
If people want the road for residents only then ask the council to put in residents only controlled parking zones. You will have to pay for residents parking permits and passes for your visitors, but that is the price of getting residents only parking.
Then (and only then) the road is reserved for residents (and their visitors), and commuters etc can't park there.
However, if you don't want to pay for the privilege of having residents only parking, then anyone is allowed to park in the road (but not across driveways or other places where parking is illegal).
Unofficial "restrictions" on non-residents parking are a total cheek and should not be tolerated!0 -

When you have had a long hard day a work, what you dont need is someone preventing you from parking near your own home.
You do the math.So tell me, you can't find any legal car space for over 1 mile because they are occupied by tourists who are visiting for a week. They do not plan to move their car, you are telling me, you are happy parking a mile away from your home because you think this is fine.
Whether you or I are "happy with it" or not is not the deciding factor in lawmaking unfortunately.
Tell me honestly, how would you propose to combat this issue if you were given the ability to do so?
Legislate that only the owner of a house may park on the piece of public road directly outside it?0 -

I'd just move the cone since you have no right to place it on the public highway that I pay to use.0 -
Gosh, I must be in the minority that doesn't care? But I live in a terrace of 5, we are the only house with off street parking. To one end of the terrace the road narrows to a width where parking anything would be an obstruction and the is a roundabout at the other end. The other 4 residents have a carefully orchestrated arrangement between themselves which everyone is happy with and works 99% of the time, but it requires us to use our off street parking and to have two cars parked outside our house.
I say it works, the 1% is at school pickup time when we have endless inconsiderate idiots parking everywhere including, in one memorable incident, ON my driveway. As when I'm working I have just enough time to dump my car and leg it to the school on foot, I was gobsmacked to come home to this. So I parked her in (I was on my drive, but if there are 2 cars on, only the front one can get out). I stayed in the playground quite a while that day, from memory...0 -
Actually just thinking with all this ranting about other people parking on public roads - (the cheek! :rotfl:)
I have to pay an arm and a leg for parking in my flats car park.
Permit parking nearby is a lovely cheap £50 or so a year, but as there's a clause (nothing built after 2005 allowed, I think) we're not allowed any parking permits nearby, and we have to pay around 10 times this to park under our flats, well don't have to but it would be handy to keep the parking for the flat as limited spaces.
So although we have the same postcode and road name as others who can permit park for a cheap £50, we have to pay around £500 for parking under our flat.
Is there anyway we could buy a parking permit from the Council ? i would happily even pay double for the privelige!0 -
When I was younger my family had to put cones up to stop idiots from parking in front of the gates to our drive0

Give grants to people to support the build of new drives to every household?
Money grows on trees doesn't it? :A:j
Planning for my future early

I have someone down the road that thinks he has the right to be the only person that can park in front of his house.
He has a dual drive and now 4-5 cars in the household.
They take up almost the whole row and he gets aggressive and makes threats of assault if you park there. I take great delight in parking there however have to make sure that there is room behind me to get out because they will park within 10mm of the front of me.
It's a laugh.
But the next time he tries threatening assault will be the last because I will accept it from him and he'll be the one losing out..... grrr.0
