Thanks for replying, my March period was only about 3 days but was 'proper' blood, I only came off the pill in January so everything was still all over the place. I feel like I should be honest with dr but I would like a scan asap especially as Im still on maternity leave, due back in 5 weeks and would like to be able to tell them asap so want to get my dates sorted.

    xx

Hmmm I'm not sure what to suggest. Did you do the clearblue test with FMU (first morning urine)? If not, the result may not be accurate so it may be worth doing one in the morning to be sure as the levels will be higher and you may find that more carefully matches the idea that you were pregnant during your last 'period'. Is paying for an early scan an option? You could maybe evade the question and say you're not sure when the last period was but that a test suggests it must have been 4-5 weeks ago??

The first couple of weeks after my bfp I had dull period like pains, I know it's hard but if there's no bleeding try not to worry, it's likely to be baby bedding in and your uterus stretching.

These first few weeks of knicker twitching are hard, it's just a matter of waiting it out. At the end of the day there is absolutely nothing we can do to alter what will happen, and I found it easier to just accept that what will be will be and hope for the best!

If you really feel you must get a reassurance scan, I would recommend waiting it out until 9 weeks, as apparently if you see a baby with a good heartbeat at this stage your risk if m/c is reduced.

FWIW I have a Doppler and do like getting it out to reassure myself, just as long as you're aware you may not be able to find the heartbeat, which can be even more of a worry!

I second all of this. Don't get a scan before 6-7 weeks because it is sometimes too early to see the heartbeat, which can be very worrying. It is a worrying time, but hopefully you can relax once you've had a scan and know that things are progressing.

The only problem I can see with giving (possibly) earlier dates than you are is that a scan may not show a heartbeat etc when expected (if your dates were wrong), then you'd have a whole load of additional worry.

It's worth mentioning that sometimes cycles can change completely after pregnancy, so it doesn't have to be the same this time around.

TBH if I were you I'd tell the Dr that your periods have been erratic since giving birth and you couldn't say when your last period was. I don't know how soon your Dr would arrange a scan for you - mostly it's 12+ weeks around here unless there's an existing medical condition that could cause problems - but if you're desperate to find out, an early private scan might be your best option.

    Good luck.

Thanks, think I might just be a bit vague about dates and see what they say, think the scan dates are 12 weeks around here. Will phone dr's on monday and hope I can get a quick appointment to get things moving
    xx

Thanks for your reply amus. It's reassuring that other people have felt pain like this. It's certainly not very painful, just slightly uncomfortable and there's no bleeding. I have been checking my knickers *alot* and also doing lots of tests (I know, I know). I really should try to let things be and 'que sera, que sera' and so on but I'm finding it difficult.. I think the mentality given that if I am to miscarry or have an ectopic, then nothing I can do now will stop it should help, so thank you.

I have already booked my scan for 7 weeks 2 days (since LMP, although I had a long cycle this month so it will only be probably just over 3 weeks since conception) but may call and change it. I'm looking forward to my first MW appt in just over 3 weeks time.

How many weeks are you? When did you first hear the heart beat on your Doppler? I think I will get one as they're so cheap and I'm quite scientific so would be able to cope with not being able to catch it all the time.

Yes did another test this morning with FMU because I thought it might change and still 2-3 weeks, I dont think I'd pay for an early scan but will see what Dr says, Thanks xx

Has anyone read or can recommend any good pregnancy or early parenting books?
First pregnancy for me & I would love to read a bit on the whole thing in general as well as a guide on what to do when baby arrives etc!

Hello Credit cruch, I'm about a week behind you:wave:. I have a Kindle and bought 'What to expect when you're expecting' yesterday. It looks pretty good and goes in to quite a lot of detail. I'm thinking of getting others from the library which may be an idea for you too.

Early parenting is tricky as a lot of books are routine-based, e.g. Gina Ford's book, the Baby Whisperer etc.
The book we found best was "your baby week by week" which gave pointers as to how the baby was likely to develop as the weeks went on, when they'd start to smile, attempt to reach for stuff etc.
The best thing we did was talk to friends who'd recently had babies and go to ante-natal classes to learn about what to actually do with the baby when it arrived - and you often forget anyway, so end up asking questions as it all happens anyway:)

Thoughts_please - I completely agree with fluffnutter - I think early scans can be helpful especially if there have been bleeds etc but I found it lead us into a false sense of security - we had a tiny bleed and therefore a scan at EPU at 7+6 - saw good heartbeat, all well. Lost baby at 8+4. I have an unusual shaped womb so could've been due to that but already have 2 healthy girls. I know for us it was so hard to deal with the loss as we had seen him/her alive. Plus it took 6.5yrs to conceive!!

I did buy a Doppler last week mainly as hubby now going to be out of the country for scan and wanted him to hear it if possible before he went but only managed to find it tues. haven't found it the couple of times since but know baby can be low/turned around etc so it hasn't worried me, as yet! I've had to learn what will be will be - no matter what I do.

You need to do whatever you need to do to get through each day/week. If you're like me, you'll worry no matter what (I have a silly ritual of thanking god at least 5 times every time I wipe and all is ok lol - I'm not even a god fearing person - just possibly a bit mad these days!). I'm already counting down the days to 12wks (9!!!) like that will be my worrying over - I know though it'll be more like 20wks before I relax lol.

Can't wait til we're all on the 12+ thread - hopefully we will all be so much more relaxed. Pregnancy is the most stressful thing ever! X

Credit crunch - there are lots of good pregnancy apps that tell you have baby is up to and what size etc - I've had to limit myself to only reading the weekly ones but I do love reading them each week :-)
