Hello all - hope you're all OK. Great news about the scans and good luck for those having them next week.

I've had more bleeding and ended up presenting myself at EPU via A&E again. Had a scan and all looks fine (waving and wriggling :)), they just can't find a cause for the bleeding, and it's still ongoing. I'm trying now to talk myself into not stressing unless I have bright red blood gushing out (sorry TMI), but I still have an impending sense of doom... However, I'm 12 weeks on Monday and have a dating/NT scan next week so I'm hoping that if that looks OK I might start to relax. I've "spoken" to a few others online who said that they bled throughout their pregnancies, so I guess I might be one of the "lucky" ones there :o

So I'm going to go outside now and enjoy the sunshine while we have it - have a good weekend everyone:)

Are they able to say where the placenta is, sweaty? A low-lying placenta can cause bleeding. Glad things are well with bubs, but it's maybe not going to be the most relaxed of pregnancies if the bleeding continues. They'll monitor you well so try not to worry.

Am I ok to join you guys here? I just got a TLP last night and have had some other TLPs today (and Clearblue says 1-2 weeks). Officially it's 5 1/2 weeks since my last period but I only probably conceived about 11 days ago. I've been feeling a little sick for the past day or two but today I've been worried about a dull ache in my lower abdomen. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm quite a paranoid person so have booked in for an early private scan in almost 2 weeks time (they say they do 7 week reassurance scans). Anyway, trying not to think too much about bad things - the more I worry about this ache, the worse it seems to get!
Anyway hope everyone is doing ok and I hope I can stick around here for the next 7 weeks or so:j xx

I notice from a later post that this is your first pregnancy. I'm assuming you've not had miscarriages and you also mention that you didn't struggle to conceive. So far so good!

As another anxious person here can I suggest that an early scan might not be the best thing to do. Not because there'll be any cause for concern, but simply because reassurance works in odd ways when you're anxious and it, contrary to what you think will happen, continual monitoring of things actually makes you more anxious.

Rather than seek reassurance for things that might or might not happen, you should try to put your anxieties into perspective. Say you have the scan and all is well. Will you want another scan? Will you buy a doppler so that you can hear the heartbeat? What if one day you can't? This kind of behaviour can rapidly spiral and it's often the case that the more reassurance someone has the worse they actually feel.

For a first-time mum with no fertility issues, no history of miscarriage and no worries about multiple births, a 7 week scan really shouldn't be necessary. It could make you feel a whole lot worse.

I don't mean to offend you - I completely understand why you're doing what you're doing. But I'm a long-term anxiety sufferer myself and I've learnt the hard way (and through excellent CBT) that seeking reassurance isn't a successful way to tackle anxiety.

    Hello Everyone
Found out I was pregnant last night, clearblue said 2-3 weeks. I'm after some advice please? Sorry it's long with lots of detail!
This is my second pregnancy, with my first I found out I was pregnant 10 days after what I thought was a period, when I went to the dr they still used that period to date me even though I said I believed it wasn't a true period. when I was scanned I was 3 weeks further then what the dr had put me at so I was correct.
Fast forward to this pregnancy and I seem to have the same problem. Clearblue says 2-3 weeks, my last period was 22nd march since then we dtd on 31st march and 1st april so with this being only a week ago i can be sure that this is not when I conceived.
Prior to this my period was on 11th feb but we did not dtd after this until week commencing 5th march, so 4.5 weeks ago. I believe this is when I conceived although it doesn't match up with the clearblue test.
When I go to the Dr would you just not tell them about the March period and give them 11th feb as my last one. I just dont want the same scenario as last time where I end up waiting so long for a scan and it meant I was too late to have certain tests done. I think if I tell the Dr about the March period and explained about last pregnancy they'll still say 'well we'll use the march dates and let it be corrected at the scan' I'd rather be earlier then later with the scans.
Hope this all make sense, thanks in advance :)

Fluffnutter you have hit the nail on the head - I am a natural born worrier and have wondered several times whether I should get CBT to help me deal with my anxieties. Before I tried to conceive I was so paranoid that I was infertile (frequently browsing the TTC 12m+ so belated congratulations to you), and now that I have all I can worry about is whether I will miscarry or have an ectopic pregnancy. It's like you can read my mind - I had already investigated a Doppler :o!

I know that I shouldn't constantly seek reassurance but it's as though I'm addicted to that feeling when everything is ok..

Anyway, sorry to deviate from the normal postings! Hope everyone is getting on ok. I still have this dull ache low down (no bleeding) - has anyone had this? It's pretty constant, especially when sitting down?

I'm not sure what I'd do to be honest as like you say neither of the dates you've suggested match up with the clearblue test. Was your last period particularly light or short? Perhaps it would be best to explain to the doctor your feelings?

Thanks - I asked if there was anything on the scan that would indicate why I was bleeding, e.g. placenta position, etc but they said no :o. I have an appointment with the midwife after my scan this week so will ask again I think - at least if there was a reason it would make more sense to me, rather than appearing to be completely random.

The first couple of weeks after my bfp I had dull period like pains, I know it's hard but if there's no bleeding try not to worry, it's likely to be baby bedding in and your uterus stretching.

These first few weeks of knicker twitching are hard, it's just a matter of waiting it out. At the end of the day there is absolutely nothing we can do to alter what will happen, and I found it easier to just accept that what will be will be and hope for the best!

If you really feel you must get a reassurance scan, I would recommend waiting it out until 9 weeks, as apparently if you see a baby with a good heartbeat at this stage your risk if m/c is reduced.

FWIW I have a Doppler and do like getting it out to reassure myself, just as long as you're aware you may not be able to find the heartbeat, which can be even more of a worry!

Thanks for replying, my March period was only about 3 days but was 'proper' blood, I only came off the pill in January so everything was still all over the place. I feel like I should be honest with dr but I would like a scan asap especially as Im still on maternity leave, due back in 5 weeks and would like to be able to tell them asap so want to get my dates sorted.

Did you suffer with endometriosis or heavy periods?

My brothers gf bled heavily for the first 12 weeks for no apparent reason but she did suffer with her periods prior to conceiving. The bleeding just stopped all of a sudden when she got to 12 weeks!

The only problem I can see with giving (possibly) earlier dates than you are is that a scan may not show a heartbeat etc when expected (if your dates were wrong), then you'd have a whole load of additional worry.

It's worth mentioning that sometimes cycles can change completely after pregnancy, so it doesn't have to be the same this time around.

TBH if I were you I'd tell the Dr that your periods have been erratic since giving birth and you couldn't say when your last period was. I don't know how soon your Dr would arrange a scan for you - mostly it's 12+ weeks around here unless there's an existing medical condition that could cause problems - but if you're desperate to find out, an early private scan might be your best option.

    Good luck.
