  • Sophiasmum my little one is with a childminder at the moment but she's moving away just before the little bean is due so he'll be 3 and at home with me. I'm going to see if he can get a few hours in a nursery but that won't be until the September. To make matters worse my mum will be on an extended holiday for a few months when the bean is born and last time she was there every day for me for the first 3 weeks. I hope I don't have to have a c-section this time. OHs mum will gladly come round all day every day but she works full time too - although it's shifts so she might be able to help out a bit. OH will qualify for 2 weeks paternity leave so I might make him add some holiday on to the end of that if his work will let him.

AquamarineMonkey - I am also thinking this about paternity. I think my OH gets two weeks also, and we were originally due to go to Glastonbury Festival in June which obviously won't be happening now (:rotfl:) so I am going to see if the week's leave he was going to use for this, he can add onto the end of his paternity.

Would be nice to have my OH around for 3 weeks!!

  • Oh and I forgot to add the other annoying factor - this pregnancy could LITERALLY have not come at worse timing - I am due exactly 3 weeks before our best friends are due to get married....in Poland....and my OH is the best man!!!

We are due to tell them next weekend, and hopefully they will react understandably to the news that I cannot come. We still don't know whether my OH will be able to go. Even if baby is born smack bang on due date, it will only be 3 weeks old at the time and I don't know if I like the idea of my OH leaving us for 3/4 nights when the baby is so young :(

And of course if I am a week or more late (and they say with your first you are likely to be late) then the baby might only be a week or two old...even worse.

What would you do in this situation? I think at the moment my preference would be to just say no neither of us can make it now. My OH I think is erring more on the side of telling them he can hopefully make it but it might only be for 1 or 2 nights (which is not going to be practical with him being the best man) but I don't know really.

    Grrr!

  • AquaMarine - you should be able to get free 12-15 hours (I cant remember) childcare if he is 3? Im sure its not just in Wales - we get rising 3 places -so for example, when my eldest was 3 in the Sept (& home with me) from the Jan she qualified for 12-15 hours childcare in a playgroup, until she could go to formal nursery in the Sept. Think it worked out at 2-3 hours per day ....every little helps!!If he is 3 before the Jan I would think you could enrol him a playgroup...Im already thinking - HELP! Im due end of May and come the end of July, Ill have 3 children to occupy for the 6 weeks summer holidays...Luckily my mother inlaw and parents are fab. DH will prob take 1 week paternity and 1 week holiday - cant really afford for him to take the 2 weeks paternity when Im on maternity leave! x
  • Mysecretalias - don't know if I like the thought of being left on my own for a few nights with a week old baby as a first time mum? Will you still be living with his parents (I think you do at mo?) that may help if he has to go. Hes caught in the middle I suppose!

  • mysecretalias my first was 2 weeks early :-)
I think it is a difficult one as if it was only a couple of nights it wouldn't be too bad but for that length of time I know I would have struggled. Oh went to download about 3months after LO was born and even then I made my mum come and stay. Its not just physical support it is also the emotional support as hormones are still raging. Maybe when you talk to them a plan can be hatched to suit all of you. X

    :( sorry for you.

We are due to go as well... EDD of 3 July.... And I'm not ready to give up the idea of going just yet!! :o

We work there, have done so for over 10yrs. Secure central camping so I wouldn't have to face the crowds (and rarely actually do anyway as I prefer the more random aspects of the festival and the area I help run!)... So my main concern so far is getting a porta-potty! It'd be a free ticket for life if bean came then! :rotfl:
