Just a quick post to say that I've scored quite a bit of stuff today for £20! I'm hoping that will be all we end up paying out of pocket for the little one, since I'm planning on getting the 'essentials' through Amazon.
Going to make the most of my daily bus pass that I bought this morning too, going back out to have lunch with DH, then will be going grocery shopping, so no carrying heavy stuffs up the hill! Yay! :j
I'll take and post photos tonight of the bits I bought, so long as I can still see straight enough to do so once I'm home. :rotfl:0 -
Sophiasmum - its has been on the cards a while, we are currently seconded out.
Ironically we were talking about me going back to my previous career fulltime as a buyer before I got pregnant. But cest la vie.
We have kept everything but is all for boys as is all my sisters stuff so will have to get new bits if pink :-)Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. Cant understand about turning down the internal scan either. Surely the average pregnant woman would welcome getting used to being poked and prodded considering it will happen a lot more over the next few months?!!
Having said that though with my Endometriosis I am so used to pain at smear tests etc etc anyway that it didn't phase me too much at my early dating scan when they had to do an internal one.
Re: Maternity time and pay I am really lucky in that I get full pay for 6 months, half pay for 3 months and no pay for 3 months (making up to the 12 months).
I do intend on taking 12 months given that I personally think I would regret missing out if I went back to work earlier (and must stress that's my own feelings and I know everyone is different) HOWEVER if my boyfriend and I end up being able to buy a house before baby comes we will have to sit down and do some pretty serious calculations to work out if I will be able to take those last 3 months without some other form of income (I have thought maybe I could do bits and bobs from home during those last 3 months like boot sales or ebay selling etc if it came to it).
Basically I would rather scrape by for three months than have to go back to work. But if it's a case of us not being able to pay for mortgage+bills+food+baby things for three months....then I may not have any choiceOur first baby due 25th May 2014 :T
Maternity leave fund: £3000/£6000 :T0 -
Oh, and as a side note, unless my ILR comes in before the baby arrives, I'm not eligible for any money from the government, and I'm not working, so no maternity pay. I'm hoping that DH gets a raise in January like he has every year working for this company so far, otherwise it will be a bit tighter than I'd like.0

glimmerofhope so sorry to hear about you being made reduntant....bad timing or what
Given that your pregnancy is early days could you try and get a new job now? You don't have to even declare that you're pregnant and even if you do they can't discriminate (i.e. not choose you for the job) on that basis (although I know in practice easier said than done)Our first baby due 25th May 2014 :T
Maternity leave fund: £3000/£6000 :T0 -
Good luck with the scans today ladies!
Sophiasmum glad to hear yours went well yesterday, yay!
Glimmer sorry to hear your job news, big hugs.
I'm still suffering with all night sickness. I woke to eat crackers at 2, 3:30, 6 and 7. I feel knackered and nauseated and ready for a good cry. I'm scared about mc and finishing my thesis and I feel so lonely and sad. Finding this combination of ms, ibs, hormones and stress the pits :-((((((((:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
mysecretalias do you work for the NHS by any chance? I get that same maternity pay too. I feel lucky when I see what other people get!
rang in sick today as I feel so sick and horriblehardly got any sleep. I'm starving but can't eat anything without feeling more sick. I feel lazy just sitting about so I tried to do some housework, hoovering and cleaning the kitchen but now I feel worse. no win situation!

Lara44 - I really hope you start to feel better soon. I think the up and down hormones and tiredness make us all feel so much worse about things in general.
I find myself being totally irrational recently for no reason at all and my poor OH bears the brunt of it!
Good luck to anyone having a scan today.
I work for the NHS and have done for 6 years but my maternity pay is 8 weeks full pay and 18 weeks half pay, then i would assume stat maternity pay until 39 weeks. Does anyone else work for the NHS? is this the same for all trusts or can they just decide for themselves?0
