Not if you negotiate the rate properly - the alcohol aspect is expensive. And champagne costs a fortune... People would be able drive and won't need to stay over. It's moneysaving in so many ways.
Maybe I'm being thick here but what do you mean by negotiate properly. People buy there own drinks other than for the toast at any wedding I've been at .Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Perhaps I should stop thinking about vegetarians whenever I'm planning food; after all they won't suffer from one meal involving meat.
If you have such a restricted diet, don't you have to make special arrangements whenever you eat out? Friends who have to eat gluten-free do this and most places are able to accommodate their requirements.
I don't think serving a veggie or vegan a meal containing meat is the same thing at all. Omnivores are happy to eat all sorts of things - they don't have to have all types of food at every meal.
It's possible to make a veggie or vegan meal that would be enjoyed by omnivores.0 -

Surely you would negotiate the package with the venue??
We'll just have to disagree. Most if not all the weddings I've been to have had a free bar, at least for beers and wine.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -

Thanks for the explanation. No I've never been to a wedding where there was a free bar at all. It would be something very unusual from an extremely generous couple! Other than a drink for the toast you buy your own drinkLost my soulmate so life is empty.

If there was a free bar I can imagine a fair few of my relatives would be completely pie-eyed in no time!
Like Torry Quine, I am used to the guests getting one drink and/or the toast from the wedding party, the rest of your drinks you buy yourself.0 -

I've been to a few weddings like that. Usually at grossly inflated special wedding prices. It made me all the more determined to make sure nobody had to pay for a drink at our wedding.0 -

And the honeymoon, a deposit on a new house, a 52inch tv and a new car0 -
Reflecting your personalities is one thing; imposing your personalities is another altogether.
They're your guests and it's your job to make sure they have as enjoyable a time as possible. For most people that involves a tipple or two. What's wrong with that?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

You've been to some bad weddings.Gloomendoom wrote: »I've been to a few weddings like that. Usually at grossly inflated special wedding prices. It made me all the more determined to make sure nobody had to pay for a drink at our wedding.
Me too. :T Free bar all the way. I didn't want anyone to put their hand in their pocket all night. Free transport from the church to the reception, then home again too so that people didn't have to pay for taxis or drive. They're GUESTS! Treat them well."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
I'm another one who has never been to a wedding that has a free bar and I've attended plenty of weddings. A drink on arrival -yes. Wine/champagne to toast the bride and groom - yes. Drinks provided for during the course of the meal wine/soft drinks/tea/coffee- sometimes. The rest of the drinks - a paying bar.
The only free bar I've ever been to other than for corporote events was after my Grandad's funeral and he certainly wasn't irish-loland I thought my Nan was nutty for offerring it.
OP_ Is a free bar usual within your community/family and friends at a wedding?0
