Morning all
well done oops a daisy on giving up the smokes - very MSE :T :T :T
Hugs CCstar and everyone else who needs one
AAh go on Aime - give the neighbours a bank holiday treat
There were two raindrops on the kitchen window this morning which made me delirious with releif as I'm getting a bit fed up with recycling the washing up and laundry water - but that seems to have been it so I'm back to the syphon and the watering can
Plans today are to go to middle dd's for a haircut and papier mache little dd's bedroom door (basically stick loads of dr who pictures on it). Dinner will be home made baked beans with jackets and lentil soup from the freezer.I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
Morning all,
It's ages since I posted on the daily, although I have been reading through to try and keep up to date.
I really need to get back to OS basics, I haven't been keeping my spending diary or meal planning and my bank balance is feeling the effects.
CCStar, your neighbours sound awful...when you go out, I hope you leave your music on as loud as possible.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Morning everyone
:bdaycake: Happy Birthday SOMO1 :bdaycake:
Welcome Crutches and Oops a Daisy :hello:
(((CCstar))) Stick with it girl, I deriously thought my luck would never change and that I'd never find a peaceful home with nice neighbours, but I did! And when I least expected it. You never know what is round the corner. It helped moving into a place where the flats are really a bit small for families, we have mostly youngish working couples or retired couples. It really shows in the noise levels.
Has anyone heard from Smoky?
Well, the cheek of it! Mrs Coot is, I think, on the next batch of eggs so Mr Coot is in charge of the little ones. So what is his idea of child care? When the chicks start yelling for food does he immediately start foraging for them? Oh no... he gets onto the boards below the balcony, listens out for me moving near the windows then yells his head off, getting the chicks join in just to be sure I get the message!
Thinking about it, scrub what I said above CCstar, I talked a load of rubbish, there is no escape, kids are kids whatever the species!
Right, time I was out, promised to sort someone's balcony for them today, and it is going to be heavy work.
Have a lovely day everyone.
I lived in houses where they were too small for families, so instead had the noisy students and their parties.
I thought the top floor flats would have worked but retired people have loud TVs on at night, slam their doors and windows. Our last place was above two retired people who did just that and of course they were in all day too:(
They also smoked heavily which wafted thro the floorboards and on the balcony.
The most peaceful place was our third home. There were families around but they were quiet or at least reasonable. Our immediate neighbours were working couples. We only left after 7 years, as we relocated to Scotland and we needed somewhere bigger.
The place we rented was lovely but it was a rental and they wanted to move back in. We were next to a couple with greyhounds, a family with two young girls and a teenager down the road. We only had to complain once to two of the neighbours and they responded well. Not bad going in three years!
But the last 10 years have been hell! I just want a peaceful home!An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:
:eek::mad: :beer:
I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.0 -
Aww flipping heck CCStar, that is bad luck. In the past I've ended up listening to my music/TV on cableless headphones and wearing earplugs to sleep, not ideal but it gave me some peace.
Amie, your post made me :rotfl: , I'm another who wanders about in her night clothes in the morning.
It's drizzling here this morning, the plant leaves are getting a really good wash, which reminds me, must get over to the gardening board later to find some advice on keeping down the blummin greenfly on my new honeysuckle :mad:My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Hi Everyone
Been so busy househunting, the amount you spend on petrol and eating out! We haven't been getting in till 11pm, to avoid the screaming kids that are making our lives hell. I'm not anti children but these are excessive after a day at work and driving. The parents don't care when we say anything, these are children of university lecturers, not chavs!:(
Still haven't found a place to buy, so given we have 32 days to go, we are likely to rent, but trying to find a place that is quiet enough (away from potentially screaming kids, barking dogs, building work and partying teenagers/students), and our budget isn't too bad, is like trying to find a needle in haystack.
Our son THINKS he might have got caught by a speeding camera, his 2 years expires in mid June, so dreading the post. We know it comes around 8 days after the event but it is holiday day, so if we don't get the dreaded post this week, we should be OK.
We got a lovely surprise from Oxford Council for accidently straying into a buses only zone. It has changed so much and it wasn't very clear it was restricted - so hate Oxford with avengence now - all £30 worth. We were simply driving through and used to know the place so well! But I don't expect any sympathy, given the flaming I got about complaining about a tea room that gave bad service, on this site!
I am rather down to be honest, for the last 10 years, we have lived in noisy homes with uncaring and nasty neighbours and had the most attrocious luck, which I won't go into now.
I am not getting on with my OH very well either and my mother is a control freak. I don't feel I have any mates either. So I don't know why I am bothering tbh.:(
So it's a wonder, I've not gone nuts:(
CC, keep your chin up. Things might seem bleak at the moment, but they will improve! Its a shame your neighbours arent more 'neighbourly'.
Sending you lots of (((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))). We are all here to help.
Take care

Morning :hello:
Didn't get on here yesterday except to check for a PM from VickyA - I was far too busy relaxing
I'm currently making the most of the bank holiday, which as the weather is on the grey side, means I'm still in my pyjamas at the momentbut I must get moving soon and do some housework as this place has been going to rack and ruin over the last week or so - and I'm expecting visitors at various points this week so would like it to look at least SLIGHTLY presentable
Will pop out to the shops, then do some tidying and ironing in front of the snooker. I do need to be somewhere at 6pm, I've promised to do some report writing for the community project I help with, as the lady who runs it has no confidence in her ability to do them herself. I've also promised to make time to have a proper phone call with one of my friends.
Happy birthday somo1 and Wanty
Hope SnowyOwl, AMIE399 and CCStar aren't feeling down for long ((((hugs))))
Back later I'm sure

Morning all...a grey day, it is drizzling, wish it would rain properly.........
We have been and picked up the wall unit, just got it in the car, OH said it wouldn't go I, I said it would!!!!!
Have packed as much as I can, have a load of washing in, need to go down and see if its dry.
I must say we are very impressed with how quiet it is here, you cannot hear anyone else's TV etc, occasionally we do smell smoke, but it seems to be in the corridors, so guess it wafts out of rooms when the door are opened.
We got a sat nav system yesterday, tried it out this morning, it took us a bit of a funny way, and when we took a wrong turn , it took us back to the right road, so seems to be ok, will give it a better test tomorrow going down to Dover, the route it gives is vis the M1 but we want to miss the road works at the M25 junction, so intend to go on the A14 M11 route which brings us round nearer to the Dartford tunnel...........it will be interesting to see what happens when we turn off..........
Right going down to see if the washingn is dry, have a couple of bits that will need ironing. This afternoon we have to have a quick trip to the allotment...sausage sandwiches for lunch.............Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
Morning everyone!
Pouring with rain here, which is great because the garden and the water butts really need it.
Happy Birthday SOMo1 and Hello! to Oops a Daisy. Is it OK if I call you Daisy? Or Oops? Food luck with the non smoking. Take it a day (or a half day or an hour) at a time.
<<CCStar>> Sounds like you've got a lot going on, no wonder you are feeling down! Having inconsiderate neighbours is awful, have some myself and it's got to the stage where the smallest thing irritates the hell out of me. I'm trying hard to let things go over my head, and tell myself that if she was my friend then what she was doing wouldn't matter. It's kinda working, but the test will be next time one of their visitors blocks our drive :-)))
Thank you OldMcDonald for that weblink you posted. I'll have a look later and see if it helps me too.
Queenie and Amie Oh god, I'm trying to cut down on milk puddings...but coconut rice pud sounds too heavenly to miss...and Queenie, what a fab idea for making my own coconut milk.
Spare hugs here for anyone else who would like one.
Well, Monday is normally my housework day, but I think I'll do it all tomorrow instead.
Dinner is pork chops for DH, HM mushroom soup for me.
No other news today, so I'll pop back later and see what everone else has been up to.
BTW, my DH gets really funny when I wear my pinny. I don't mean funny.amorous. I mean he really doesn't like it. What do yours think?0 -
awww ccstar !!!!!!!!{HUGS}}}}} sorry you are having problems with neighbours. I moved to my current house because of nightmare neighbours. I actually dont like the house but am wary about moving because my neighbours are lovely. Theres nothing wrong with my house - its just me - I have never settled here. It really does drive you crazy though  I was a nervous wreck by the time I moved out of my last house. He was an alcoholic but she was nice ( I actually felt sorry for her ) they had 2 very noisy dogs that ripped their house apart and barked all the time. I was semi detatched to them so I ended up sleeping in the box room of my house because I could never get any sleep in my bedroom. It got so bad that I would be screeming over the fence at their dogs to shut up in the early hours of the morning. Their back garden stunk to high heaven because of the dogs and then there was the loud music at all hours of the day & night. You may think I am talking about younger people here but no = they were in their fifties  I put my house on the market and sold to the first offer - even though it was below asking price, I just had to get away. I had spent a fortune on that house - had new windows, doors, decorated throughout, new kitchen etc but my sanity was worth so much more. I hope you manage to get somewhere nice soon.
all the best - OOPS
ps - thanks for the kind words about packing in smoking everybody. I have 5 patches left over from a previous attempt so have started with them and will be going to a smoking cessation session this week. I need to find out when they are on though as the one I used to go to is on on a Monday so will not be on today due to the bank holiday.
have a good day everybody:cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
Morning all (just)
Snowy, I hope you feel better today.
Amie, I'm another one who wanders around the garden in my nightie in the morning. And I can vouch that Racy does too. I think that between us we scared most of her neighbours last weekend!
Jamiedodger, Good to see you.
Shez, I hope you hear something from your boss soon.
Catowen, Well done to your ds! I bet he's delighted.
oops a daisy, Well done on giving up the smoking.
CCstar, I hope things get better for you soon.
Happy Birthday to stressedoutmumof1 and Wanty :bdaycake: :bdaycake:
Well I've had a lazy morning...sitting around, drinking coffee and just generally chilling. But a phone call from Haribo telling me (just a little smugly)how much she has crammed into her morning has made me think I'd better get busy. Sibling rivalry can be a positive thing sometimes!
The weather is a mix of sun and cloud so hopefully it'll stay dry and I can get into the garden. I still can't believe I've just typed that. This time last year the only thing I'd ever tried to grow was grass.
The house can go to pot as they're all at home today and anything I do gets undone within minutes, so I'll deal with it tomorrow when they're all back to work and school. Not sure what to do for tea....possibly some sort of stir fry if I can find the pork I put into the freezer.
Ok better get on with it...
Have a lovely bank holiday everyone.
