Hi all, we're having a bit of a nightmare here. We could smell gas so called out national grid last night. They've cut us and our neighbour's gas supply off so we have no heating or hot water. We've moved into mum and dads whilst they sort it out as they found carbon monoxide, even though we have alarms that didn't register it. I'm not taking any chances.

Good news is that Thomas had a good night. He woke for two feeds at 3am and 5am after being put to bed at 11.30pm. We've had 6-7 hours sleep.

And I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight, combination of breast feeding and lack of appetite/more sensible eating and no snacking I think.

Hope everyone had a decent Saturday night.

Oh no, what a night vic!

    Have they sorted it yet?

Everyone tired here, we had visitors who have gone home now.

Reconnected but they've disconnected our gas fire as the chimneys between us and neighbours have been condemned. Looks like weeping to have to shell out mega money to get it put right.

I've had british gas to around checking for carbon monoxide and we have the all clear to go back home :)

This is going to make me sound really bad but it's a mixture, sometimes i cuddle and get him to sleep for maybe another hour, sometimes just straight in our bed for my own sanity. He thrashes about and won't have his dummy so I can't just leave him.

Naps in the day are great, 1-2 hrs in the morning and 1-1:45 in afternoon. I've tried putting him to bed earlier, later, giving him more milk, bath time etc nothing is working and I'm exhausted. He's getting too big for his crib so will have to move to cot bed in next couple of months but that's in another room, the though of having to walk into another room hour after hour is depressing me!

I know you don't want to do controlled crying - and neither did I but it was getting to the point that it'd take longer to get Eilis to go to sleep than she'd actually sleep for and I asked my doctor and we agreed it was worth a try. It took 3 nights - that's all - and it makes a world of difference to my sanity!

First night took about 40 mins. I felt awful. I said next time I'm just picking her up but that was the time she settled. Next night was about 20 mins and the 3rd was less than 5.

Obviously it's totally up to you but I never left her for more than 10 mins at a time so it's not a case of just ignoring her indefinitely - I disagree with that method - but I just wanted to give a different perspective :)

Ah but it does! Unfortunately we all find out the hard way haha. For us it's usually only when he's not well, or another pesky tooth is coming through :(

I'm having issues with my mum again - but this time she doesn't know it!

It's her smoking - we have been to her new house today & although they smoke outside Rebecca had come back home with smokey hair & the weirdest smelling skin on her face - but me & DH have decided that it is the smell of a smokers breath - I notice when we were at the house & I thought it smelt like BO, & even went around smelling everyone but didn't figure it out so I wiped Rebecca's face with a wet wipe & she smelt normal again. But the smell was there when we left & I ended up blaming my mums pillows! Mum was breathing all over Rebecca & kissing etc as was my dad so that is my conclusion!

My dad went outside for a smoke a couple of times & one time he came straight in & picked Rebecca up & breathed all over her & didn't even wash his hands. Now I'm not a clean freak when it comes to Rebecca but I would have thought they could wash their hands after smoking before holding her - this is one reason why I feel I couldn't leave her with them for any period of time but I can with my MIL!

Mum also took over quite a bit & took Rebecca's trousers off for no reason, moaned that Rebecca's feet smelt! & generally wouldn't let me near my own daughter - only when it was obvious that Rebecca was hungry that I got to hold her!

So advice if you care to give it - how do I approach my mum about her smoking & leaving it at least half hour before breathing over Rebecca? Or am I completely over reacting?

On a brighter note I went to a ceramic coffee shop in the week & done mugs, trinket box & photo frame with Rebecca's footprints on - she slept through the whole experience! Should be lovely Xmas gifts!

Going to put up Xmas decs tomoro - cant wait to see Rebecca's face with all he lights etc.

    Sorry or the rant xxx

I don't reckon you're overreacting at all! I was like that with anyone who smoked. I wanted them to at the very least wash there hands. I suppose you could start taking some antibacterial hand cleaner with you where ever you go, pop it in the lounge when you next there, and just say in a roundabout way, if anyone has eaten, smoked etc, could they just use this on their hands first before handling Rebecca. Just say its something you are both doing now, and you'd like everyone else to also.

And i'm afraid she may need to learn the hardway about not taking over. You'll just have to stand your ground. Your an adult, and this is your baby girl, and what you say goes. End of

    Morning (just!) :)

We haven't seen Katie on here for a while - hope she's OK and just busy house hunting!?

Have a good day all x

Hello all, seems like ages since I got on here! Thanks for thinking of me Nutella :) Busy house hunting is an understatement - we looked at 11 properties in 3 days! Had our offer accepted on one so its all systems go now!

Hope everyone's ok, I did read back but I swear my memory just doesn't hold on to stuff anymore. To whoever was having an issue with someone smoking around LO - no way are you over reacting! Luckily I only know 2 people that smoke and they were both told that there would be no smoking in the same building as G and they had to wash hands and change jumpers/tops before holding him. Or I'd be leaving with him. And we had no problems.

Has everyone done their xmas shopping? I've just got a few choccie santas to get and a couple of photos printed and I'm done, just had half an hour on Etsy getting all the main bits I wanted :T

  • hello

had my first night out without LO :O it went well. I expressed for the first time in 8 weeks - I used to struggle to get 70ml but now I got 150ml (after a big break) and could have gotten more except the bottle was full. I guess my milk is established now woo-hoo!

katie I hope your house buying goes smoothly, congrats on getting the offer accepted.

nessie I'm sure the advice is to wash hands before handling babies if you've smoked. there's such a thing as third hand smoke.

Claree I'm glad controlled crying works. At least there's another option to explore when I need it.

vic I'm glad you and you're family are OK. hope the chimney gets sorted soon.
