Thanks for your replies. My mum came today so I could have 2 hrs sleep and I'll have some when oh gets home too. He had his jabs yesterday so hoping that's the problem last night and that I'll sleep. Tried all remedies and he is on the different milks for around 2 weeks before ever swapping. Currently just been put on lactose free milk as he's congested but it's only been 2 days. Thanks for the boiling water suggestion claree.. my mum did it today and he seems quite clear of griping at moment. I'm just so tired I have to go out to get him to nap in day so a totally sleepless night means a sleepless day too until oh gets back. He's great but I pray things will just settle back again as I'm not coping well and feeling anxious. I struggle to see how things will miraculously become well again at 12 weeks or so but some people have told me they will so I have to hold on to it
I hear you, I honestly do. I remember when people used to tell me it would get better and I wanted to scream in there face that I needed it better now not 'x' number of weeks. Do you have a sling or carrier? Mine saved my sanity, I remember eating my weetabix and dropping it on his tiny little head because he was strapped onto my front
Generally in most cases reflux is a symptom not a cause and if there is reflux there, something is causing it, milk proteins are a big one. True lactose intolerance is very rare in babies, whereas cows milk protein intolerance is very common, the milk for that type of intolerance can be ordered into a pharmacy but generally costs around £25-40 for 400g so you usually get it on prescription. Some medication may help solve the problem though.
Hang on in there and any help offered, take it. Iv said before on here but I'm a big believer in the 4th trimester theory, and generally after 12 weeks things do get better for most people.
I had a screamer, and one of us held him 24 hours, there was never time he wasn't held unless I had to wee or grab a drink of water or just needed a breather (he'd be screaming the whole time mind)and a bit of a positive, he's grown up to be a secure little boy. He's always happy to play on his own, he's not clingy in the slightest, and so confident and I like to think its because he was reassured when he needed ithugs xxxx

That's interesting Gilly, I wasn't aware of that. We have been unable to get LO to take any more formula, so my fears about her sicking it up were unfounded. We've tried tempting her with a few different brands, but with no joy. OH took her to the GP who has referred her to a paediatrician, but in the meantime I've decided to try to feed her expressed breast milk as much as possible so we can monitor what she is taking in.
I just wondered if anyone had experience of mixing bm and formula and if there was any reason why we shouldn't mix an oz or so of formula with EBM to see if she can be tempted back to trying it. I can't work out if it's a rotten idea - the last time she was sick on formula she brought up bile and we had to take her to the out of hours service to be checked out, but we don't know if it may have been a bug (I had been unwell but she was fed EBM by OH all day so may have escaped it, and didn't show other signs of poorliness), or a sign that she can't tolerate it.
Praying that something turns up soon - it's so darn hard to get a good supply in of EBM when you have to feed LO via bottle, cuddle/change/play and still find time to express as well0 -
Well I had an MSE moment today, got a free haircut at Toni & Guy with a student, on the bad side I was really really late to pick Squeaky up from nursery as the student took ages  and then when I got there they told me she had been sick everywhere and been asleep for about an hour and a half
:(
So now we have a pukey toddler and am just waiting for everyone else to get it :mad:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Boo Delain, hope she keeps her germs to herself. But how's your hair looking?
I'm going to the hairdresser in my lunch break tomorrow, but I get to pay £36 for the privilege....
Our nursery charges £1 per minute if you arrive after they're supposed to have closed!0 -

The pre school was still open (I thought she'd be running around playing with the other kids!) but I felt so awful that she'd been illThe lady running it is great and she said she didn't phone me because she knew I couldn't run out of the hairdressers, but I felt bad as I'd have asked OH to come down and get her if I'd known!
Haircut looks good, mind you it should as they took 2.5 hours  I suppose that's the perils of students. If I do that again I'll get a 9am appointment :rotfl:
I'd owe the preschool almost £100 on your policy!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

As I understand it mixing formula and ebm is not recommended. If LO doesn't take a full bottle of ebm it can be reused but if you put formula in it, if its not taken you have to throw it out. I think I read somewhere that the breastmilk is affected by mixing it but I can't find a link anywhere. I always gave the ebm then the formula.
I get the concerns about weight gain, it's a horrible feeling when lo is not getting enough. I remember sobbing for hours when DS had his weight in and had put on nowhere near enough. I had been nursing around the clock and I have never felt so bad! Have you considered getting LO latch checked and observing feeds to make sure she is drinking well? You could also try doing a weighted feed to assess how much she is getting. If you are pumping and finding it hard to get enough time to pump you can put your pump attachments in the fridge after each use so everything is ready to go and you only have to wash/ sterilise at the end of each day. No other advice re the formula although I found DH had much better luck getting C to take it rather than me.
Bangton big hugs sorry you are having such a hard time at the moment. I would second the recommendation to use a sling/ baby carrier if lo takes to it it gives you alot more freedom during the day. Try and get a bit of a break, maybe you and your OH could take turns to help you get a break at nighttime. It's great that your mum could take him for a couple of hours for you I would take every offer of assistance you can get. C didn't like his jabs at all, he nursed around the clock for the next day and a half I was wrecked the. He slept for a day
AFM another rough few days though I think I have found the source of part of C's digestive issues. I didn't have a coffee yesterday, normally I allow myself one a day and he was fine yesterday evening. A little be fussy but no howling in pain so going to try that again.
Still struggling with getting a consistent bedtime and tvh DH is really not helping. I went for a walk yesterday just before the getting ready for bed time and when I came home 15 mins later he was asleep. Not changed or fed though. DH said he was tired so he settled him to sleep, which would of been great had he got him ready for bed!!! I had to wake him and he didn't settle again for another 2 hours and then he was up at 5 this morning so we are both exhausted.0 -
Sorry to all of you going through tough times with their little ones ATM. We had a better night. Thomas woke every two hours to feed but slept in his Moses basket straight after each one. What did I do different? I changed his nappy before feed and didn't burp him after. He obviously didn't need it!DS born November 2013 :smileyhea0

Morning everyone,
I am a lurker of this thread, mainly as I haven't been sure if I can contribute to anything, but I have to come out from hiding to respond to your post Oscar the pug.
I have a 6 month old little boy and we have been through similar to what you are now. BF didn't work for us and I expressed instead. When we tried to get J to take formula he would bring it all back up again quite dramatically a few hours later and was quite poorly the next day. We were finally referred to a paediatrician when he was 5 months old who suspects a milk protein intolerance and can prescribe a special formula. However, the paediatrician recommended weaning a little early and for me to keep expressing if I can, although the formula is there if and when we need it. I know this doesn't help you as your LO is that bit younger so I would hold out for the paediatrician appointment and see what they say. If it is something similar to our experience, your GP can also prescribe the formula but in my area it was hard to be taken seriously let alone get formula (the first time I went to my GP when J was poorly I was told that babies cry and that I needed to go and have a relaxing bath...!)
Anyway, I am still expressing and I really sympathise with you as it is hard work. I did get into a good pattern with it and expressed 5 times a day - this has dropped to 4 times a day now that J has dropped a feed. I found that my supply kept up with me if I stuck to similar times each day.
One of my friends mixed formula with EBM to get her LO to take formula (she just didn't like the taste I think) which was successful. I think she started with small amounts and worked her way up to a whole bottle of formula.Latest Wins: Mr Motivator workout DVD, 5 Itunes downloads, Ipod Stereo Dock, Tea, Ipod Nano, True Crime DVD set, Family Pass to Legoland, Eye Pencil, Seeds, Anita Shreves novel, £150 ASOS vouchers, Miracle Gro starter kit :j0 -
How's everyone this morning? Anyone had any problems with the flooding? Our local town was flooded last night, so a lot of clear up today I think. Alot of the schools closed and they've advised people not to park on the other side of the town they live, incase they can't get back again over the river. Not normally a problem with flooding, so quite and event. We're in a village outside, so thankfully no probs here, but we've every thing up on surfaces, just incase!0
