Hmmm the only way of breaking it would be not to give the milk, or some people do one less oz of milk each night and then eventually baby thinks no point in waking up for such a small amount, or give water instead of milk.
6 months isn't too old not to be sleeping through, how much is she eating during the day? If its substantial amounts she may not be hungry, maybe offer supper. I know turtlemoose had a similar problem and since offering supper, he is sleeping through xThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
The Baby Led Weaning book by Gill something or other has a few pages about a test that was carried out a while ago where babies were allowed to pick from a range of foods for a week or so and interestingly they all balanced out over the period - some days a baby would eat all meat for example, but the next it would go for veggies. Interesting stuff. (Not a very good synopsis of it, it's a while since I read it!)
G has just woken from his morning nap and he's happy :T. All week he's been waking up completely distressed with teething but today he's tucked straight into his sandwich with no messing. Will be having a good poke about when hes finished to see if the teeth have popped throughNewborn thread member

Another bad night here, she went down at 8 like usual but was up at 10 and wouldn't settle so I fed her and that did the trick but then she woke up again at 12 and she was a very unhappy little lady, screaming and punching and rocking and shaking her head - NOTHING would settle her and I was knackered so my oh held her as still as he could for fear she was going to hurt herself and eventually she fell asleep at 3.17 on his chest but if he so much as moved she started whinging so he stayed like that with her until he had to leave for work at 5.50 and since then she's carried on being a miserable so and so refusing to be put down and nothing able to cheer her up. It's going to be a long old day!0

Afternoon ladies
Well, we've had a busy few days. Tuesday we went up to London, A's first train trip and first time to London as I had to take her to register her birth in South Africa and apply for her SA passport. Bless her, she was so good the whole time we were there and on the train journeys.
We did have to sit for hours waiting in the consulate though - almost wish they did operate an appt system!
Got back and we had her appt for her first jabs. She was so good, a little whimper after the first and about 30s crying after the second. Three hours after her jabs she did wake up screaming though - that was definitely the worst bit but at least I know what her pain cry is. TMI her nappies yesterday were a bit mucousy, but I popped into the clinic and was assured that this is normal following jabs or if she had a cold. Weighed her seeing as I was there and she's up to 4.7kg so I was a very happy mommy! :j
We also had our second baby and you course yesterday which was resus and then baby group today. Tomorrow I'm meeting a colleague for lunch.
I'm feeling knackered though - she naps at most for 20 min during the day, once or twice! And although she does sleep for a 4hr stretch at the start of the night after that it is very variable. I said to OH about feeling knackered as I've not slept for longer than 3hrs in a stretch since she was born. OH suggested that I sleep in the spare room either Fri or Sat and he'll get up with A so I can sleep. Going to try her with a bottle of ebm this evening. Fingers crossed that she will take the bottle!
Off topic - but I've just had the postman deliver a cake parcel: a box of cupcakes from one of my sister-in-laws!!! OOh, look forward to munching on them. Of to make a cuppa
ps hope that everyone is having a good and restful day0 -

She's nearly 7 months and I'm now armed with calpol which seems to have worked as she's eaten her tea and is currently having a bounce in her jumperoo after her bath. How stupid do I feel that it didn't occur to me earlier! I really hope it is teething and they show up real soon because many more nights with her becoming Damien like could do us all in x0 -
DDB & Morocha - I had 7 weeks from 4 months of little one waking up every 1-2 hours, I was exhausted. The grumpiness definitely peaked just before her teeth came in at 5 months old.
Saffagal - Our little one used to do her "big sleep" for 3-4 hours whenever she went down, so if we put her down at 9 she would be up at 1, put her down at 11, up at 3 etc. Then every 2 hours after that. I think marta said her little one did the same. I think the first time I slept for 5 hours in a row was when she was about 3 months old. It really takes it toll. What I used to do was do all the get ups in the week then at the weekend OH would help through the night if it was just a "rock back to sleep" (unless it was feeding as I was BF her so I'd get up) and both Saturday and Sunday mornings he would take her downstairs about 7am so that I could have 2 hours of uninterrupted sleep until the next feed at 9am, those 4 hours at the weekend were like bliss because I knew that it would be 2 hours each day where I wouldn't be woken up - rather than each weekday morning, getting 20min sleep then woken up then 10 min sleep then woken up for 2 hours whilst attempting to lie in. I think just knowing it was going to be uninterrupted sleep really helped and I had a deep sleep. I've definitely become a light sleeper now I've got a baby as I listen out for her, I think your subconcious listens out for them even in your sleep, but for those weekend hours I could just switch off knowing I didn't need to listen for her. That was a ramble but just letting you know you aren't alone!
Katiechoc - Hope G's teeth make an apperance soon!
marta - I'm not sure how or why but I was starting to worry about the habitual night feeds that LO didn't need, and suddenly she just stopped. She sleeps 8.30-5.30 then wants a feed which I think is more than reasonable considering her previous "form" of waking me up every hour or two! I think she started doing better when she had 3 meals a day and when she could sleep on her front. Or of course as she is a baby she could just have decided to start sleeping and not need feeding for no reason at all! My hormones are definitely not right yet and periods are irregular still even when I was really regular before. I'm sure I read somewhere it takes the body a full year to recover from childbirth but I guess if you are concerned then go back to the GP even just to put your mind at ease.
mrsB - you look fab!
Nothing exciting to report here, I'm just trying to make the most of maternity leave before I have to go back to work boo hoo. Despite losing the weight I put on for having the baby, I still need to get rid of the pre-baby weight and nothing is shifting it, mainly because I have too many cake dates with other mummies :rotfl: still, the magic of breastfeeding burning calories has stopped now even though I'm still feeding so that's a bit of a bummer. Maybe I should just stop eating cakes?!
Hope all mummies and babies are well0 -
Sexy mama mrsB!
Sorry to hear that you all seem to be having a hard time. I can't offer any advice as you all already hate me for having a good sleeper. Not to rub salt into the wound but I put him down at 7 as he fell asleep on me. He woke for a feed but has been down since. This will be the earliest he has gone down in months! He's now in his own room. The next step is to get him into the cot bed
Has anyone heard from Dizzi? Is she still around? I know I offended her but I still think about her and how she is.0 -
Thank you, that helped. I don't want to do cry it out, I keep hearing people about how their babies sleep through, my DH 's workmates tell him also their babies sleep through, and I think ours wakes up out of habit after 4am, because it's every hour and a half to two hours, no way she's hungry. I am going to try to up her solids and reduce the milk at night.
Today I went back to work, I felt awful, and I'm only working Thursday evening and Saturday morning! I wanted to cry :-( On top of that, my lo was ill today, just before leaving she had raised temperature and she threw up with DH. First time she's unwell.
Bamama, you didn't offend dizzi. We all had some argument at some point with her.Quit smoking *1st January 2010*
