New as in brand new or new as in second hand new? The former I never have but the latter I do just because they might have been stored a while or washed in a powder that causes skin irritation. (I have skin trouble otherwise I wouldn't worry about that.)Daft question 2: When did you/would you stop washing new clothes before your LO wears them? I still wash them, but every time I wonder if it's really necessary anymore.0 -
I've had such a awful day! Lo woke at 5am this morning and didnt sleep until 10 and was only for a couple of hours and now have only just gone back to sleep!! All day he has been so restful.
Spent the day with the mil and everytime he cried she asked me why he was crying! I think he's struggling with belly ache, he seems to grunt and strain like he's doing a poo but is only going once a day, does this seem normal for a 3 wk old?
Also when can you start using gripe water/infacol/cool water to stop wind? Is it after a month?Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0 -
We had a phase where I thought Dewi was very windy.
Do you bottle feed? If so try stirring to avoid bubbles.
Gripe water is 1 month plus. Cannot recommend the Boots own enough. Tastes of apples and has often got a very fast response.
I'd deffo give the gripe water a good go before trying infacol as I know lots of people have complained about it. I've not heard of water for wind... only to get dirty nappies.
Top winding techniques :
shoulder and rub/pat
shoulder/rub/pat and stairs (the jerk of walking up the steps can get them out... don't go mad though :P)
lying across knees and patting
sat between knees with belly resting against one leg and patting
Sometimes it can be bum wind so try cycling the legs
Dewi now laughs at that... mainly cause I lift both and say "squish him up" in my stupid voice.
Edit: may have misread that post but I'm not deleting, took me ages to type on the phone. What are his nappies like? They do start going less. Is he lifting his legs? Legs are usually wind.0 -
You can give infacol from birth, gripe water after 1 month. It sounds like what we.had, mine would grunt, strain, arch her back, kick her legs... Mainly wind and some reflux in our case. You need to persevere with infacol, it builds up, so you start to see the effect after 2-3 days. Dentinox has also a similar product, but you can mix it with the bottle if you want. Infacol tastes / smells like orange and you can give it at every feed, my lo hated it but I read that most babies love it. Dentinox is thicker and not sure the taste but it smells weird, I mixed it with the formula, lo didn't mind. You can only give 6 doses in 24h. Gripe water, I tried the one at the supermarket but every time I used it my lo seemed to choke on it every time and I got scared, however, it calmed her down quickly. I read in these boards that Boots gripe water is better because of the taste. The one at the supermarket is the most popular, but the taste is vile. Infacol helped her to burp quickly, dentinox version helped her to do the same but in my opinion it also made her trump and poo more, unless it was unrelated. Gripe water calmed her reflux immediately but she stopped breathing in shock every time and I stopped using it, but most babies are fine with it,my little miss does not like anything but milk, not even calpol! And it tastes great! LolQuit smoking *1st January 2010*

Bamama beat me to it,lol. Newborns can go without dirty nappies for a few days without issues. Mine does one a day generally, occasionally does none and then the following day we might have two in some explosive fashion.Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

Right ladies, it's time for a couple of daft questions

Daft question 1: Switching to cow's milk: those of you who do half and half cow's milk and formula, do you literally make up a smaller than normal bottle of formula and pour cow's milk into the same bottle?
Daft question 2: When did you/would you stop washing new clothes before your LO wears them? I still wash them, but every time I wonder if it's really necessary anymore.
We are doing half and half, were doing 3/4 formula and 1/4 cows but gradually increasing after a few weeks, he is fine on it though.
I dont wash new stuff now, cant remember exactly when I stopped but prob when we weaned as that created enough washing in itself!
Aiden is waking up every half hr or so...think I am in for a rough one. Night ladies.xxxxLittle Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

Snap Sunshine, 6 wake ups since 7.30. *sigh* we have 3 molars cutting, and a cold brewing. I travelling home tomorrow so really could be doing with the sleep too

If he wakes again I'm bunging him in with me at least then I don't have to move far to comfort him.
Cows milk I just made up a bottle with less oz and added the cows milk to it. He doesn't take any milk now anyway so much faff here for nothing in the end!
We had our first proper war wound yesterday, head first at great speed onto a concrete floor, it's grazed and a massive lump and bruised
wee munchkin. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
moneypenny - we started our LO on baby porridge (rice+corn) at 5 months, fruit, veg and gluten at 6 months and chicken/fish just before 7months.
nutella - my LO is 8.5 months and I'm still washing his new clothes. I think I'll be doing it for a while, after all you don't know how many times they were dropped on the floor and by how many people they were touched before you bought them.0 -
Ahh hope he isnt too bad Gilly, and his head is ok! Think ours is teeth too
and a combo of a post MMR runny nose, calpoled him at 6:30 just before bed so may try some ashton and parsons if he wakes again.
Everytime I get nice and warm in bed he wakes and I get cold again!!
Safe journey home x
Sammie, forgot to say hope your ds is okay x

Nurofen is the godsend for teething here, calpol barely touches the sides
if you have any of that he can have it as you can alternate both of those x The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0
