Our 4 month old slept 2-7 this afternoon and woke basically just for a feed then back to sleep. I fear I may pay for this tonight :rotfl::eek: Actually, when she has a good sleep in the day she is usually a better sleeper at night (famous last words!).

I was enquiring about "next time" we had a baby when little one was 5 days old. Think I was high on euphoria! Would still love another one tomorrow but its quite nice not to feel/be sick every single day for 42 weeks! Want to enjoy this little one for a while with some energy and then we'll see what happens! Every day with one baby is a blessing for me!

Can I just ask when everyone started weaning their babies? I'm in no hurry despite what the 'solids police' think! Babes is doing fine, gaining weight very well and hasn't shown any signs. Just wondering as I know some start them at 17 weeks...

Right ladies, it's time for a couple of daft questions :o

Daft question 1: Switching to cow's milk: those of you who do half and half cow's milk and formula, do you literally make up a smaller than normal bottle of formula and pour cow's milk into the same bottle?

Daft question 2: When did you/would you stop washing new clothes before your LO wears them? I still wash them, but every time I wonder if it's really necessary anymore.

:o crikey I stopped washing new clothes before she wore them at about 3 weeks :o I think its because I washed her clothes in bio by accident and it did her skin no harm (only realised when she smelled differently!) - if she had sensitive skin I'd probably keep doing it though!

(no idea about the cows milk!)

We started at 23 weeks, which is either one or three weeks earlier than the recommended 6-month point, depending on whether you count 6 months as 24 or 26 weeks (yes, there really is a whole debate about that!). We did it because she was displaying all the signs, and I finally gave in after a particularly horrendous week when we were up all night every night feeding our way through what was either a growth spurt or her trying to tell me that milk was no longer enough to satisfy her :o

I started blw my now 2.5yo when at 5 1/2 months she reached over in a cafe and grabbed the piece of toast my friends toddler was eating and started to gum it into submission

Switching from formula: I just gave cows milk but in a beaker rather than a bottle. That gets shot of bottles!

I've not washed New clothes since DD1 popped out huge and people had to go and buy her some clothes because none of the newborn stuff i had fitted her :o and she was fine :)

Currently doing about 4/5 oz of formula, topped up to 7oz with cows milk and gradually reducing the formula down as the remaining carton gets used up. Think we were doing 5oz and dropped down to 4oz this evening hence why I'm mildly confuddled.

Stopped washing new clothes around the 3 month-ish mark.

As for when we weaned - sorry but not going to answer it - took a lot of flack from the professional mommy hand-wringer brigade who didn't know or understand the differences dealing with preemies and decided to jump in and lay into me for following the guidance for that situation and I'm still angry about it now.

I think I only washed new clothes in the first week and my lo has not had any issues. We always used hypoallergenic sensitive powder stuff (simply pure is the brand) because my DH has sensitive skin, but I must admit she goes straight into new clothes, bedsheets or sleeping bags.

Candle, my lo has 40-45min naps in the cot during the day now, but she used to sleep for 1-2h when I used the carrier for her naps. The other day, when she was poorly, I let her be in the carrier and she slept for an hour and a half. At night she falls asleep about7:30 - 8:30 pm for about 4-5h, has a feed and sleeps for another 4h or so, but generally wakes up with wind, not hungry, so I move her into my bed and massage her tummy until she falls asleep for another couple of hours. She will be 4months next week.

I know I need to change the way she falls asleep and teach her to do it by herself... I just find it heartbreaking when she cries and I fear the cry it out technique... I really would like to know if any of you had any success with more gentle techniques or how long it took you if you used the cry it out. I also wonder if she's too young to even consider it, I don't want to do it just so I don't have to rock her to sleep, but because I see she cries at the end very tired, like annoyed that she cannot sleep.

Marta,Jade is baby n2, so did not make the same mistakes i did with baby n1, which was " rock her to sleep in the pushchair everytime she woke up" so there i was half dead rocking a tiny baby to sleep many times at night for 4 months. we do not have a routine, but i do try to be consistent when we go to bed, the room is dark and she has a bottle, first weeks she was in deep sleep and i woud put her down, then i started putting her down half asleep(i picked her up and conforted her if she cried, i never planned to do the cry it out method), when i notice she was sleeping ok with this arrangement I started putting her down after a feed still awake. I make no eye contact or talk to her but to be honest she never cried, i would have picked her up if she did.

She is 10 weeks and fights day naps too but i know after 1hs or 1.30 she needs to sleep and like other mummy said, she sleeps better at night .

I started at nearly seven months. Having read up about all the so called signs, we had some at three months (because what baby sitting on your knee while you eat a packet of crisps isn't going to try to grab them?) and still haven't had most now. She still surviving on almost exclusively milk but she's on the same line on the growth chart as she was at three months so I'm happy.
