I am looking for some advice, my lo is 10 days old and I'm wondering how much your lo used to eat? He's having 60-80ml every 3-4 hours.
Once a day he seems to have a couple of hours where he just won't settle without having a bottle every hour, like cluster feeding.
I know the baby knows when they are hungry and will only drink until they are full but does this sound normal?
Any advice is appreciated, as you can tell this is my first.
We were given numbers of what we HAD to feed her by the neo-natal bods with Robyn being a 36 weeker but at 7 days she's on 60ml 3 hourly feeds... I still keep setting my alarm to feed her because I won't relax on it until I know she's back to her birth weight (no choice to do feeding on demand or anything because of the prem thing - again! - although they did take Erin as evidence I didn't kill the last prem baby I had and proof I might have a vague clue what I was doing)
Speaking of which - Erin's really unsettled and grumpy and not her usual sunshiney self... could be lack of sleep since she's had a couple of weeks of having to nap in a hospital visiting me (with staff popping in to coo over her and waking her up constantly), or teeth - but since we're only up to the lumps and not any sign of them cutting I'm not sure blaming them is a cop out to soothe my conscience... or she's really struggling with the new baby's arrival, or her beloved uncle going home - I dunno but it's heartbreaking to watch my wonderful sweet-natured girl become this screaming angry ball of tantrum... plus she's discovered crawling and realises she can attempt to make bids for freedom as well - so it's really not being fun in this house at the moment and I'm having distinct regrets over lots of things. Plus there've been some fairly icky rows over the in-laws' behaviour as well which can't have helped.
Oh well - everything's a phase and will pass given enough time I guess.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

I can only speak from a breastfeeding perspective but when I expressed for a while, this was the sort of amount that Freddie was drinking. I'd say it sounds fine. Cluster feeding's OK too, even with bottle-fed babes. It's all feed on demand nowadays anyway, regardless of whether they're breast or formula-fed.

Hello :hello:
I will add myself once I can find the list! My son, Jack, was born (eventually) on 19th July 2012. It really has taken me this long to actually sit down at a computer! I was on the birth club thread - if thats what it was called:o.
Anywho, I thought it was about time I came on here and said hello.
I don't know if I am the only one who doesn't know where the time has gone, it doesn't seem 5 minutes since I was sat round bored waiting and waiting...and waiting for him to be born and now I have action baby who went from newborn to terror in less than 6 months! He was an early crawler, once he had mastered a week of crawling he was pulling himself up on his cot, no place is safe and you really do need eyes in the back of your head and even then thats not good enough! :rotfl:
I am after some teething stories as Jack has been dribbling constantly for about 3 months now, there are two gummy tooth like bumps which don't seem to want to turn into teeth. We have had awful nappy rash which has gone and bit of a sniffle which could be to do with his teeth. Anyone else had this? Come on teeth!!:T
Thanks for reading my ramblings and I shall be back soon - nap time is over, time to wake the little guy.

Aren't they all different? Freddie's two weeks older than Jack, can't crawl yet but has had teeth for months!
I didn't actually notice him cutting his teeth (bad mummy) so I'm not the best to advise. But I do know that they teeth for months in the sense that they dribble, gnaw and whine a bit as their teeth shift around in the gums. It can takes ages for the actual teeth to appear.
If in doubt, just give them paracetamol"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Welcome to the thread, and congratulations!
This definitely sounds normal - most of the time, my LO had 80-90ml every three hours at that age, but like your little man she'd want milk more frequently at certain times of the day. For us that was mid-morning, when she'd never go for as long as three hours without a feed; it'd usually be two hours, but sometimes only one. You might find one of the baby apps useful to track feeding patterns (Marta is the expert on those) so that you can pre-empt hunger and be prepared for it, but having said that, he's a baby and babies like to keep us on our toes, so once he's settled into one feeding pattern he'll probably go through a growth spurt and it'll all change again!

At that age, that really is all they do - alongside wee, poo and (if you're lucky) sleep!0 -

Or Nurofen - we've found that works better for teething, especially if she's got a fever. And Metanium is amazing on nasty nappy rash0 -

Thank you, your comment has made me feel loads better. It's so daughting having your first, you second guess every little thing. And wonder if everything is normal lol so nice to know that being that hungry is normal. I can stop worrying. I've looked at apps now on your advice, I was putting the feeds in my phone but last night got to 3am and forgot to put the amount and after so many feeds 20ml blends into 80ml so it's easy to forget!Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! I know exactly what you mean - it's so difficult to know if what you're doing is right; I too used to wonder and/or worry about every little thing (that too is very normal!), but it's amazing how quickly you get into the swing of things and it all starts to fall into place. As for tracking feeds, I had to write them down every time she fed - there's no way my baby brain could have handled thinking back more than a couple of hours; I think you did very well getting to 3am!
Please do stick around and keep posting - I like to think we're quite a friendly bunch0
