He knows you budget to pay HIS debts, but that hasn't stopped him withdrawing £50 to go on a bender/treat himself) whilst knowing you cant leave the house.
Sorry Saffron but he is a self-centred git, that really doesn't give a darn about anyone but himself.
Let him go back to his mother's and forward HIS debts on to him, image how much less daily stress you will be suffering on the monetary side of things, once you become less stressed over money, you become less stressed over everything else.

Saffron. It's time you stopped being strong for anyone other than yourself and your children. You have to start being hard and if people treat your self and your kids with anything less than the respect and kindness that you deserve then tell them to SOD OFF!!! You have to take control now. Let me put it this way if a complete stranger behaved towards you and your family like your husband and his family have done would you let them back into your life? I think not. Sorry to sound so hard but it has made me so angry that any person thinks they have the right to treat someone else like a punchbag.

Or Doormat, which is what you are stating clearly (the punch bag bit is a what could and will progressively happen scenario, if it hasn't already, we don't know).

    Hi SF

You have got people that care about you - us :)

Also, just a thought to keep in mind, how would you react if it was one of your daughters being treated like this (god forbid!) in years to come. What would you advise her to do? I think I know the answer to this.

Stop picking up the pieces for everyone else and just pick them up for yourself and your children, you need to understand that nobody else matters except you and your girls in the grand scheme of things. Sometimes, and speaking from experience, you have to let others sort their own lifes out. Your husband is an adult and as such needs to act like one, he has to take responsiblity for his own actions - YOU ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE !!

    Hugs xx

Forgive me if I'm speaking out of turn here, but you do sound as though you are defending his behaviour and actions in some of your posts

Yes I was, anyways - we have had a very long conversation, and he is coming around tomorrow, and I hae said that if he cannot understnad that he made choices that led to the whole thing then there is not chance he can comeback.

I cannot thank you guys enough for all the support that I have received today, you really have been a lifeline in a very dark moment. I dont know what the outcome will be, but I hope that it will be a good one what ever it is.

Thank you again from the bottom of my rather battered and bruised heart.
