I can't get the missing little girl in Portugal out of my head

The one thing that really annoys me is that I keep reading 'everyone's done it at some time' . Well no actually, lots of people have and never would leave kids on their own especially at such a young age and in a strange country.
My husband and I have never had a night out together without the kids in 15 years, because we don't have anyone we can trust to look after them. It's been really hard, but it's been worth it for the peace of mind. They have gone on school trips, where they have been well supervised.
I too am praying for the safe return of this little girl.0 -
I too prey she is found. I find it even more incredible that the parents are both doctors, not sure why that should make a difference but you would think they would have more common sense really. Lets all hope though that this little girl is found safe and well and the parents are able to move on and heal their terrified baby.0

I have a hard time leaving my 16 year old son in charge of my girls (11 and 9), we recently went on holiday and had a meal out alone because the kids were shattered. My son told me to stop being so stupid when I said I was worried about leaving them, but some of us are just worriers I guess.
All of that said, I'm sure the parents felt sure that their kids were safe, I doubt they would have left them without feeling they had acted responsibly. This was just a case of poor judgement becoming obvious in light of the terrible circumstances. I doubt if this had never happened to Maddi then no one would really have commented about them having a meal across the road, after all, this could have happened while they were all tucked up sleeping.0 -
Anyone seen this.Portuguese police now have a detailed description of the man they believe took Madeleine - but do not know his identity. The Daily Mirror has been given the description but has agreed not to publish it at the request of police.
They are worried releasing too much information could possibly "spook" the kidnapper.
Officers have also created an artist's impression of the suspect - but bizarrely it is only of the back of his head.
Latest from the Mirror.
And then this?
http://www.functionpix.com/index.php/article/Police_Arrest_Portugal_Child_Abductor/1376/...........Meanwhile relatives defended Kate and Gerry for leaving their three youngsters while they went with friends to have a meal.
Great uncle Brian Kennedy, from Liverpool, said: "The children were only left in the sense that when you put your children to bed, you don't stay in their room all night.

Aol don't say anyone has been arrested either and they are usually pretty good with up to the minute news. I hope it's true and the little girl is indeed safe.0

My own sister is currently on holiday with her 6yo twins, she is stopping in a villa. *possibly* she is putting the kids to sleep at night and then sitting outside. If she is, she might be exactly the same distance away from her children that these parents were. IF someone breaks in round the front, whilst they are outside and takes them do you think they would be in for the same amount of criticism?
ETA_ The more I think about it, the more I think what is the chance of someone breaking into somewhere hoping to find a child to abduct, or of a burgalry turning into a kidnapping. The parents have *probably* drawn attention to themselves by checking so frequently.0 -
Seems to me the mirror is somewhat out of the loop information wise and is making it up as they go along.
I think DM made it all up, Portugeuse police have said they will not issue details of the suspect to anyone in case it jeapardises the girl's life; if they were to make an exception I hardly think they would choose the Daily Mirror.
We all have strong opinons on the rights and wrong of parenting, but maybe for the moment we can all keep hoping and praying for the child and that she is returned safely to her family.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Cant help thinking that if this was a single girl from a council estate that had left her young children in the same circumstances that it would be splashed over the front pages, criticising her actions yet because these are professionals we should all sympathise because "we" have all made errors??
Something just doesnt ring true with the information we are being given, and I find it odd that the police "know" who the abducter is yet still they havent found her.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
Please don't take this as a dig at you cos it's not but consider this. IF god forbid something had happened to your children on one of those trips, do you not think *some parents/people* would say well that's why I don't let my child on those trips/don't let them till they are older than that/don't let them unless I go on the trip with them. What I'm saying is we can go on forever more saying 'my security controls are tighter than yours'.

Yes they might, but then my kids were 8 when they first went on school trips and really thats because we weighed the the benefits of the experience and fun they would have with their friends against the small risk of them being hurt. I hardly think that compares with people leaving 3 kids under the age of 3 totally unsupervised.0
