I've had BBC news 24 all day and they've just had some breaking news that a man and little girl have been seen in suspicious circumstance in a town called Nelas in North Portugal - apparently loads of roadblocks set up, much activity. No more details other than that. Please God let it be her.

The parents didn't use the babysitting facilities because they didn't want to unsettle the children when collecting them later to go back to the apartment. They just can't win.

I know hindsight is a great thing ...

but in those circumstances you either ( IMO) take the children with you, allowing them to sleep in buggies by your side OR you just dont go out,all staying in the apartment together

Its all about common sense IMO which these parents were definitely lacking it would appear.....

i am still having difficutly quite believing what they did TBH !! shocking shocking shocking !

But these parents chose NOT to use the child checking service ( not that it would make it any better IMO )

instead favouring to leave them alone and checking on them once an hour ..........

I'd never heard of these checking services with holidays and I wonder if this has led families into a false sense of security - i.e. that they can do basically the same thing. In a sense doesn't it amount to the same thing?

I think also people let their guard down on holiday, away from home, everything seems warm and friendly when the place probably has the same probs as back here with paedophiles etc. These parents would probably never have left their kids on their own back home.

I just pray she'll be found safe and well, for her sake and for her family, who however misguided in their actions will be going through hell.

yes i think you are right

people relax on holiday and let their guard down etc and like youy say do things they wouldnt normally dream of doing "back home" when if anything you should be more on your guard

you are in a strange country at the end of the day !

RE the child checking services, ive not had any experience of them / used them TBH

only heard of "listening services" used in hotels whereby the phone in the room is left off the hook and at reception they can listen in to tell when the child wakes etc

I understand them not wanting to wake the children, but would it have been so hard for just 1 adult in the party to stay with the children, taking turns every night.

This was a well planed operation to abduct a child - I assume by someone who new the Apartments and area very well, and had watched the family closely. Anyone who knows the Algarve (I was there two months ago) will know that once you move north from the Coast you're in a very different environment, and are really out in the wilds.Get off any of the major roads and you won't see anybody for miles and miles. The girl was probably abducted and killed within a twelve hour period by the pervert who took her. As the abduction was planed so well, he's probably hidden or burried the body where it will never be found. A lifetime of tormant and recrimination awaits the parents, there really is no point in blaming them, I assume they've reached that conclusion already.

I'm thinking why did "he" wait so long surely after 2 or 3 days "he" would have pounced rather than bide "his" time  This seems a very well planned abduction IMHO, i still hope it's the childless couple.

I'm not sure that this resort does offer a listening service - the website is a bit confusing, but I read it that the resort offer a creche facility where you leave your children or babysitting which is presumably someone actually sitting in the apartment.

When the little girl first went missing the complex manager said they offered babysitting services & creche facilities but the parents hadn't used them. At no time have I seen mention of a listening service.

I just heard that too, please God let this have a happy outcome, I know there will be no easy road for the family Maddy will have problems but please just let her be alive. I know everyone is saying the first 12/24 hrs are most crucial but let this be the exception to the 'norm'. I'm not religious but I'm praying hard.

Oh i do hope its her. It'd be lovely to have a good(can't say happy as poor little thing could have been through anything and be traumatised).
It would be lovely if someone got their snatched child back from a foreign country as i still remember a few that never have...fingers crossed!
