Certainly doesnt bear thinking about I agree 100% If she isnt found and the parents go back home which they will have to do really soon, they will have to get on with their lives but they will find it hard and they will always wonder what could we have done to prevent this from happening,I am not blaming them at all but I bet they wish now that they hadnt left the children in that appartment all alone and no use of that childminding service when it was offered to them.

I think that the crux of the issue is that life is full of danger and people/ children have to face it, but at the corrrect stage. It would be different to leave a 14 year old in the apartment , in order to grow up children do have to face dangers and we as parents have to direct them and let them face them, but not until they are equipped to deal with them.

You mention ponds well personally ponds are not safe in gardens where small children live or visit unsupervised. I have filed in a pond to prevent a toddler falling in. Accidents will happen there are enough dangers when you do everything in your path to prevent them without being negligent and ignoring common sense.

As I said before abduction is rare, but a child waking in a strange room and being upset is not. If for that reason alone the kids should not have been left.I have been that child ( I am also the child of 2 doctors!ironically) and can still remember being very scared.

My youngest did a disappearing act in town during the Easter Holidays, it was the worst day of my life. He was found safe/sound and scared to death tears and snot everywhere. That feeling echo's round in my head as I've said before I'd rather die than go through what they are going through. That short time of doing a shop to shop search, explaining to the police what my child looked like was enough for me. He's barely allowed out of my sight now, whereas before he could go down the playpark with his brother. Yesterday he told me I was 'selfish', he cries to go out to play, it's a sad world we live in.

I totally agree with you. I see post after post either slagging or defending the parents. At the end of the day they will have to live with this for the rest of their lives. What about this poor child??!! What about the terror and suffering she is enduring??!! She must be absolutely terrified - OMG - I can not bear it!

Every year teenagers in Britain die crossing the road; no-one expects us to hold teenagers hands crossing the road.

Children drown in ponds and pools every year, yet people still build pools in their garden. In fact, people choose to go on holiday to places with pools and ponds - the danger is so much greater.

Sadly horrible things happen and I feel the anger on this thread is pointing the wrong way.

I dont want to appear to be jumping on your point again Silvercar,
but we are talking about somebody staking out an apartment, watching the parents behave stupidly and then striking at the right moment to snatch that little girl.....your talking about accidents.
a teenager gets hit by a car, sometimes its thier fault for not looking... sometimes its the drivers fault for perhaps being drunk or careless.... but its still an accident,

yes children drown in ponds and pools, why? because they were not supervised properly, no child that is being watched by a responsible adult will drown in a few inches of pond water,
of course it still happens, because anyone can have children and lets face it... the general public is quite a dumb beast (sorry if this offends you... but if it does that must mean you have not worked with the public! :D )

what about the people also in the news recently, put away for giving thier baby methadone so he would sleep better, you think they are the kind of people who would watch over a child to make sure no harm came to them... or would they be the type to neglect that baby for hours while they went off to get high?

how about the two (or three?) people arrested the other night feeding a 6 year old alcohol in the street, and the police found 2 of thier dead children in the next street.....

yes, terrible things happen all over the world but these arent accidents.

I agree with you, its the kidnappers fault that maddy is missing, of course it is....but if her parents had used one ounce of common sense then he/she/they wouldnt have had the opportunity,
no amount of wailing "but what about the parents" can change that fact.
