  • ^^ Well done, Adzha! Keep going. Apparently it takes 2-3 days for all the nicotine in your system to clear, so you're well on the way. Every time you feel a craving coming on, do something to distract yourself- eg. some deep breaths, have some chewing gum, get up and walk for a few minutes, have a glass of water (this may all sound and feel artificial and cumbersome at first, but once you've done it for a a while, it will become much easier to handle the cravings).

Welcome, Rafiki. You've taken one of the biggest steps already- the actual decision to quit and the mental resolution to make a serious attempt to quit. Before your quit date, think about the past situations when your quit attempts didn't succeed and consider whether there are any patterns so that you can anticipate and prepare for similar situations in the future.

    Good luck all!

Doing OK so far, had loads of emails from Stayquit, but have fallen behind their calendar thingy as have been so busy.

This is day 6 and am feeling OK :D, but every now and again get that "You know what" feeling that a ciggie would be marvellous, then say to myself, "Hang on old chap, you are a non-smoker". Seems to work.

IDA - A lot less stressed out today as the Residents' Committee have at last finally completed their so called "Agreement Policy", which is a legal document, and I was responsible for all the changes, and have completed all the necessary changes. have sent attachments to those concerned and await their responses. Can sit back now and bask in certain knowledge that in a few days time it will all start over again. "Que sera, que sera". :rotfl:
  • Wow Mike almost a week now - how good are you! Dealing with all that hassle too - well done!

Seeing this makes me wonder if there is any health benefits to quitting smoking:

Well said IDA. Remember Adzha addictive drugs will make you use any old excuse to take them again, so you have to stay on your toes to beat them. If you are on the Stayquit programme then log on and read all that they are advising. Good luck and stay strong.

Well it's a week now and things are piling up on me. Our washing machine is broke and a good friend of ours has had a stroke and is in hospital. His condition is not good. By the way he smokes 40 cigarettes a day.

I am finding the Stayquit programme a bit difficult to get on with. I tried to update the diary yesterday but for some reason it logged me off just as I was finishing. Probably too long winded, so must keep the diary entries short and sharp.

    Well done Mike!
Its day 3 for me today (full day) and I think I'm doing well.
Got a big test today though, I'm going out with a smoker tonight, and everytime they pop out for a cigarette, will I go with them and chat or stay in?
And if I go out, will I end up smoking again?
    I hope not
  • Just a bump - we're on page five - wonder if that is good or bad hmmm!! Yesterday was curious for me as I had One or two really strong urges (no longer cravings - lol) which took me by surprise - didn't succumb but tempted, you know the old "just one won't hurt" mentality creeping in eek!! Will have to read the appropriate chapter in AC's book can't fall at the fence now - just shows I really can't become complacent!! Thanks goodness for having this forum to turn to!
Thanks all - hope things going well in your worlds!
    love and hugs

Just wondering how everyone is doing?
I've done well, but I'd really kill for a cigarette.
I keep smelling my ashtray to put myself off.
