The Giving Up Smoking Thread!!

Welcom Adzha and well done - you're doing really well and you're definately in the right place for mutual support/advice and a bit of a larf!!!! My best advice is don't look too far ahead, simply take each second/minute/hour/day as it comes and breathe through the craving. I find big gulps of air in the lungs are really effective - although they can make you light headed lol!!! I think its cause your body is not used to good clean air lol!!!
Nice to have support round here.
How do you get your sig to update, or do you have to do it yourself?
Cheers0 -
Have to do it myself, use my silkquit meter for the info. I found it really helpful particularly in the beginning and updated my sig sometimes 5 times a day lol! It just felt really positive! Definately recommend the silkquit meter - the link is on page 1 of this thread.
Take care.

Shame click2quit dont give £2.55 quidco any more
Been with them before though, they have an emergency button, I used it so many times and had to start again! Eventually I left the site, and its annoying emails.
Any idea where I can find one of them 24 hours after you quit this happens etc. websites.
My eyes are going funny, no idea why lol
But, I'm hopefully getting healthier for the future.0 -

Hi Jo,
I've been demotivating myself this morning too!! Turns out I work 9.5 weeks of a year for rubbish! Certainly makes you think.
Have you all seen the pictures they're gonna start putting on fag packs next year? If that doesn't put you off I don't know what will - especially the one with the guy and the tumour growing on this neck, take a look:

... This feels quite ... HUGE...
I am going to quit 02nd September.
I've smoked for 24 - almost 25 years.
I've tried to give up many times previously but this time I'm finding a little extra 'oomph' in myself.
I figure if I can give up smoking, I can do anything - and I look forward to regaining that sense of self-accomplishment, self-pride etc.
I will save at least £930 a year ... What to treat myself to? *dreams*

Hi Rafiki, great to have you on board! Well done for taking the first step, we will all be here to support you every step of the way!
Have a look at the first post on this thread for some tips and websites that offer support. Are you going cold turkey or using NRT? If you are using NRT I'd recommend you ring your local primary care trust, you can get the number through the local council or your GP and ask for your nearest smoking cessation clinic or go to boots, or another pharmacy that has quit smoking plans and get your NRT on prescription. They will monitor your carbon monoxide levels and ask you general questions about your smoking habit and recommend what NRT you should use, then they will give you a prescription for the NRT which will cost half of what you would pay if you go to the shop and buy it yourself.
Good luck, stick with us up until the 2nd and let us know how you're getting onDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
