Well done to you new non smokers!
I have not smoked for just over 3 weeks, I can't believe it. I feel as though it is easier but I know I shouldn't be complacent as I have been very tempted at times. i went shopping yesterday and I was shocked at how strong the smell is on people when you walk past them. It really is pretty foul.
Have any of you looked at Why quit? Just a warning, it is upseting and shocking in parts. When I have wondered if giving up is worth it, i have looked at this site and it stops me from having those doubts. Some people may find it a bit strong though.....I don't want to upset anyone.
Keep going everyone!

Well done Kate. Another winner! I know I've only done 2 weeks, but I really do feel I've turned the corner and feel pretty pleased with myself. As you say, musn't be complacent. I know from experience it only takes one puff to fall back into the ashtray.
I've thought of another reason why I'm happy to be a non-smoker: I don't worry whether I put my cig. out an hour after I've left the house.
I haven't seen 'Why Quit'. Is that the name of the website?0 -
Hi everyone, and well done Kate! i might look up the website when i'm feeling a little braver.
just came on here as i'm about to walk to my nightclass and it's one of my real 'trigger' points, but reading these last few posts has given me all the motivation i need, thanks
also, i had a massive chocolate craving this afternoon, but used sue's tip of drinking water instead and it worked - no chocolate, and no cigarette to compensate for it. hurrah
i know that i'm very new to this, but something that worked for me that i wanted to share with you : i was walking to work this morning and craving my usual cigarette but, instead of having it i took deep lungfuls of the fresh air (it was a sunny morning which probably really helped) and visualised how much better it was for me than the smoke that i would have been breathing instead. not only did it make me forget the craving, it made me feel great too, really energised! just as long as you don't mind getting a few strange looks from other peole on the strees ;o)
i'm a bit of a closet hippy so realise that this kind of thing probably isn't up everyone's street, but just in case it helps anyone...
have a great evening everybody and thanks for all the positive posts

ps - just realised that it's freezing outside and i can now woalk the short way to my class, through the buildings, rather than the long way round in order to have a fag.

Well done Mintoze, yes the website is whyquit.com, it is american.
Good on you bigsmoke, I know what you mean about the triggers, if you can get past them a few times it gets easier. (I'm talking as though I'm an expert here and only given up 3 weeks myself!!) Maybe that is the best thing on this forum, we all know what it feels like...the nurse I saw had not smoked and I found her a bit disinterested.
I find the hardest part the evenings as I still associate it with relaxing.0 -
Hello All always read on here but never post untill now, 15 days ago i stoped smoking and in wales u get free nicotine replacment stuff so i am currently on the inhaler and take 4 capsuals a day.
Flip me it is hard
I miss the fags so much
I use to pay by debit card for my fags so i find putting the money in a jar thing not impossible but somthing i may not be able to do, then i was thinking use my card debit of course every other day £4.67 to pay on a debt and over the weeks this will be a Big differance???
Like i said to my no smoking support worker today if i was a millionaire i would still smoke...i wish i could be a non smoker.
Any support would be greatWaiting to win an ITV competition.....:A0 -

Just wanted to ask, is it normal to feel constantly hungry?
Now I can see why they say giving up smoking puts on weight, and that's the last thing I need to happen as I'm supposed to be losing it
Hi Chameleon, glad you received the pm, though if you'd read it at the start of the day, you'd have found that if you go for many of the tips for quitting, you can do that and keep the weight off, maybe even get more off at the same time!! It doesn't have to be that you put weight on - BUT - if you do, then you can work on that when quitting has become far easier to handle. Lula can vouch for that! You're 2 days in now so please don't let weight become the major issue - being a non smoker is!:D When you become so elated at having succeeded with quitting you'll be skipping all over the place - so no weight problems then!!!;) Great advice Mintoze! :A
A warm welcome to the thread mumofcookers! We all sincerely hope you can do it this time and, as you know, we'll give you all the support and help we possibly can as your health is very important to you and all your family, so please, keep going and get plenty of exercise when you get any cravings. I wish you well and hope this WILL be your time! :j
Day 9 already Waspy????! :T You are doing so very well, I can almost 'feel' that gritted determination - good for you and keep up that inner strength you've found! When you're past that vulnerable stage run for it and dash past the silly folk and go out for a little walk at lunch time and breathe in all that beautiful fresh air!
You still doing well American Dreamer? I reckon you are, but was there meant to be an update or were you like me earlier and had to dash off perhaps.
I can't believe it's already over 3 weeks for you kate705? :T ...and you with completing 2 weeks Mintoze! :T Then there's Schmickle after achieving 4 weeks free of that awful stuff, brilliant news Schmickle, your first month!!! Thanks so much for coming on to tell us and enthuse the others!:T You're both really doing wonderfully and it's so good when people like you themammy and Schmickle come on to help and support others, it's a great sign of you coping!:D I love your expression about one puff and falling back into the ash tray!!! :rotfl:Very true though.
bigsmoke - I just loved the way you spoke in that post, so positive, so happy and thrilled to bits to be on your way to great health. Posts like that are such a benefit to all those struggling a little, even to those who aren't. It's the sort of post that makes you smile and gladdens the heart. Keep it up bigsmoke! I'm delighted the water tip quelled the chocolate one.
Hi and welcom tuppie! As themammy rightly points out you ARE already a non-smoker. Please don't concentrate your mind on how you're missing those evil little blighters, think of how you're saving your health especially your lungs from ruin, think of how quickly you can become free from the nicotine - and how the difference will affect you cash wise!!! :j You still have nicotine in you while you're on the inhaler and capsules and that's what's still causing those 'orrible little demons to keep working in your head  When you're able, cut down on one or tother and gradually, bit by bit you'll find it gets so much easier.
Now to your words <<<"Like i said to my no smoking support worker today if i was a millionaire i would still smoke">>> I'll bet you won't be thinking that way once you've got to grips with being freed from those rotten, dirty little devils, you'll be feeling healthier, noticing how fresh and clean you are and how awful smokers smell!!! Fill your lungs with great, clean fresh air when your out and breathe out more of the old rubbish still lurking. Keep being positive tuppie, you CAN beat it, rather than the other way round
Well done TDQO!!! :T 2 weeks is a good mile stone, keep going as you are and if all goes well then that doubled could easily make a month before you know it!!! Hi TNG, how long for you now?Lula-hula wrote:Sue, I'm sure that underneath that lively , gregarious, friendly exterior there lies a shy, retiring type  even if no one else believes it.
Lula, that is a rotten fib, I'm nowhere near retiring age!!!
All the best to EVERYONE, together and with positive minds you can get to that winning line! :A

Thanks for the support peeps, it certainly helps reading other people's stories. I used gum for the first 4-5 days but soon stopped that as it gives me hiccups!
