I just wrote a very long post to you that took ages and its gone.! I haven't smoked still... that is the main point. Thank you to Sue and Schmickle, for the support. Schmickle, you can do it, its not good being a slave to it, thats what i keep telling myself.

Most of my friends and some of my family smoke including my husband so I am definately the minority in not smoking. I don't have a lot of choice in the environment as they smoke, so I would be on my own if I didn't socialise with them, if you see what I mean? Anyway the main thing is to stay strong I mustn't be tempted. x0

Hi Kate
Well done you on deciding to quit and reaching day five! :T
Schmickleicklepickle and myself are both on day ten so we can totally relate to how you are feeling.Lots of other nice people on here too giving support and words of wisdom. You've come to the right place!
I think you did brilliantly to be around your friends whilst they were smoking and didn't give in to temptation.
I've had a cold for about a fortnight now and overall just feeling grotty. Looking forward to it passing and feeling fitter and healthier than I have for a while!

Schmickle, as you're on day 9 (I believe) and feeling rough is there any chance you could stop using the patches? You've been suffering a bit and it concerns me that you may be allergic to them. Give it a try while you're not feeling so good as, unless it's the cough that's keeping you awake, it's possibly them that's stopping you from sleeping too. How about the skin irritation, any better?
Sue
Hi Sue,
I might try and go a day without - I just worry if I don't have that crutch I might be tempted - sad eh?! The all over itching is much better and sore mouth has reduce - just my tongue that has a few small ( but bloody sore) ulcery spots.
The coughing can still be quite bad though, ic comes in waves - as you say this is prob just my lungs coming back to life, also back end of infection and combination of both!
I will not put a patch on today and see how I go.
Thanks everybody for your support. I'm finding the second week much tougher than the first but it's so good to know I can come her and rant if I need to!
Thansk

Hi Schmickle - you rant just as much as you wish, that's what we're here for, apart from that it'll do you good.
I was pleased to see you're trying a day without and I hope it works as ulcers on the tongue are horrible and bloomin painful. The crutch is possibly only in your mind anyway. Plenty of water, orange juice and fresh air - not sunbathing  but a brisk walk to clear those lungs even more; at least that's what I always used to find, doing dvd exercises too, a great one to clear yourself out more.kate705 wrote:Anyway the main thing is to stay strong I mustn't be tempted. x
....at a girl Kate! Keep thinking like that and you'll get to where you won't to be. I still reckon you could tempt one or two of your family and friends to change to a healthy life instead of that dirty, smelly way of living!
Hi Debbie, sorry to hear that you too are suffering from a cold, sounds like I'm the only healthy one here at the moment!!! Ah, they'll soon pass and you'll all be even further down the quitting line and feeling so much healthier, from the colds and not smoking.
Keep strong, keep it up and get well soon girls, you're all well on your way!!! :T

I survived without the patch! Horrible day though - felt very emotional - tiredness I would imagine, only every been like that when I had baby blues and not like me at all, better today. Also had what I call the eegeebeegees - restless legs!
A relatively good night's sleep tho so a new day today, my DS has his swimming lesson and OH goes away this pm till Tues eve so I will be having to keep myself distracted!
Hope everybody else is doing OK

Hi Schmickle
I only used the patches for the first few days to help me get over the worst of it. I too found that they disturbed my sleep and I was even more irritable and restless. Now I've stopped using patches and am sticking to my guns to stay stopped. Its not been too bad, overall. I miss smokingbut I'm determined to get over it.

I have given up now for 23 days, just decided to stop, money was not an issue as got a friend who regulary travelled abroad and got me tobacco also was smoking rollies so was only costing me £10 a month. Been smoking 20 a day for past 10 years or so, found in surprisingly easy to be honest, just went cold turkey, no patches, no books, no help, just stopped. Everyones different though, got a friend who gave up for 18 weeks and found everyday hell, so hes back on it now. I do feel healthier, taste buds seem to have woken up. Biggest thing I miss is all the extra breaks at work I had for fag breaks, so try and have a wonder every hour just to get me away from the desk.
Good luck to everyone out there it can be done.0 -
Congratulations Billy_Bob, you are obviously doing exceptionally well, great for you! :T
Hi debbiemc, you're doing so well and sounding so very determined to conquer it, keep going and thanks so much for helping Schmickle in the patches department. It's good that you can learn from each other.
Schmickle whenever you get those horrible restless legs, get up and walk about or stand up and bend your knees pushing your weight hard over the calves. I always find that it it works for me, though it is a thing that happens as we get older!
Tea time now so be back later!

Feeling loads better today - hardly thought about cigarettes, but too much coffee and junk food tho!! Coughing much better aswell, still the odd wheeze but no mad fits like I've had 3 times a day.
Hubby went away this afternoon until Tues night so another good test for me. Means I won't be able to go for that brisk walk quite so easily if DS is at home or in bed but sure I'll be fine!
Debbie I understand what you mean about missing smoking - today after I'd done all the clinic I did think oo I'll have a cigarette now (I tended to have them as 'rewards' after chores were done) and felt momentarily sad..... but that is also getting much easier to deal with - hooray!
Sue no restless legs as yet today tho tend to get them just before bedtime! I do all kinds of movements when it starts, my DS was killing himself laughing at me yesterday and i was nearly in tears with frustration!... fingers crossed I'll be free tonight!
Have a good evening everybody.
Schmickle
