Good news is that I am on day 7 of being smoke free!! I'm on patches and not doing too bad except I am very itchy all over (apparently a sign of circulation coming back) and have incredibly sore gums and tongue but I can deal with that! A bit twitchy today but determined to be smoke free.....
Best wishes to everybody else who has been smoke free and to those who are planning to be!!
Hi schmickleicklepickle, welcome aboard! Of course you can join us, it's so very good whenever we see a new face and to have 3 of you today is wonderful! Very well done on being 7 days free of that 'orrible stuff!! Beware that it isn't the patches that are causing the irritation and mouth soreness though, you could be allergic to them. Have a word with your Doc/Pharmacist and see what he/she thinks and in the meantime drink plenty of water. The twitchiness I don't think is anything related to the patches, just withdrawal symptoms, but the PM I've sent may be of help with those; no worries though as that stage should soon fade away.
All the very best in fulfilling your desires and keeping free from the evils of them!
Good to see you Lula, you too Waspeze & TNG! It's really wonderful to have you all helping the good folk here! I see you're getting ready for the big day then Waspeze, counting down the days now no doubt.
Bad luck Damita, better luck next time and I hope it's soon. Never quit trying.
Hi again Mintoze. I'm pleased Waspeze has given you all the info you need, but do check with your doc before you go any further as I know you're against things you're unsure about and I have to confess to feeling the same way when I quit. Keep chatting to us and good luck.SiannieLaz wrote: »Hi All:hello:
Hope y'll don't mind me joining this thread, I'm on my third smoke free day today. Had my first fag at 10 (disgusting I know) and started smoking regularly at 12, am 36 next week. Have tried several times before and always started again when I had a beer, but have stopped that too (3 days:T ). Am going cold turkey and apart from a couple of twinges, it hasn't been too bad so far. My OH has also given up which I think is helping.
Even tho I know all the reasons I should have given up before, I'm doing it this time as I've started a new diet to get rid of my psoriasis and it insists you stop smoking. As I'd like to be able to wear skirts and short sleved tops for the first time in 17 years next summer, I'm s*dding determined to do this!
Been reading through some of the previous threads and you guys are all amazing :j
Hi SiannieLaz and a warm welcome to you. Great going with your first 3 days, hubby too, what a difference that'll make to you both. The love and support from each other should help you both so very much. Re the psoriasis, I have to add here that mine is MUCH better since I quit - so... you may not need to be quite so stringent with the diet after you've given up for a good enough while. Fingers crossed!!!
Well done to you also themammy! :T Another great success story in the making by the sounds of it. Keep going!!!
Many, many congratulations IDA & YM!!!! :T:T You 2 of done fantasticly well and have so very much to be proud of. I remember you both very well, TNG :T also. Well done all on such great accomplishments!
Well done all, to you also Debbie, debs and Josh and SO many more of you great people doing such great things for yourselves and your loved ones!

Hi all
Just stopping by with another update. Today is the start of Day Eight without cigarettes! :j
Feeling slightly irritable and short-tempered occasionally but otherwise, not doing too badly.
Good luck to all the other quitters!

Congrats Debbiemc! I do some exercise when I feel irritable walk up and down the stairs or do some sit ups. It helps with the stress and gives you something to focus on.
Thanks SueUU for the support.Smoke Free since 13th September £1400 better off :beer:0 -
Thanks so much Waspeze and Sue-UU - this was exactly the info I needed. I think I may give Champix a miss and go cold turkey.
It's really good to read other people's experiences and realize I'm not on my own. I did find that asking advice from a nurse at the surgery was ok, but she'd never smoked in her life, so what did she know. Similarly with the hypnotist - not good! I'll keep you posted as to when I quit - hopefully sooner rather than later as I'm going round the bend telling myself what a disgusting habit it is, but as far as I'm concerned, the fact that I cannot control this weakness is even worse and I do like to be in control of myself!!
Cheers for now.0 -
SueUU - thanks for the PM - will refer to it when I need to!
Debbiemc - we must have quit at the same time! Day 8 for me too with much the same feelings - definitely short tempered. really haven't been sleeping well so pretty irritable but OH and DS are used to that!
Had my biggest challenge today - lunch with my friend - we used to get through 8 fags between us at lunch, today only 3 by her!!

Hi Debbie and that's excellent news that you've given us, thank you and VERY well done! :T Don't be too concerned about being a bit short-tempered, stick to the tips on the PM and stamp about a bit when you're feeling that way, thump a pillow or mattress. A good brisk walk is best though as, not only are you stomping some ground below your feet, but you're filling your lungs with that wonderful fresh air!!!! :j Plenty of water remember as that'll also help stop weight gain!
Keep that inner strength up, just as we know you will!
That's the right advice to Debbie, themammy, and sit-ups are a great way to do it and yet another way of beating any bulge problems!!! Well done to you too!!! :Tschmickleicklepickle wrote:Had my biggest challenge today - lunch with my friend - we used to get through 8 fags between us at lunch, today only 3 by her!!
Terrific news schmickleicklepickle!!!!! :T That shows your great will power so very well done indeed!!!:D
Keep it up girls, you're all doing marvellously and will be so very much healthier. Don't forget to keep the money you save somewhere so that it also urges you at any weak moments.
Keep chatting to us and to each other.

Hi everyone,
I got told about this thread by Lewki ages ago but didn't want to quit back then. Anyway I hope Lewki is ok.....where are you?!! because I have taken MSErs advice and QUIT!
This is day 5 for me and I am still a bit worried about how I can get through the day without smoking, isn't it stupid? I have just avoided answering the phone because I used to always have one when I talked. I have quit cold turkey and all my friends smoke. Last night I sat with them all smoking but it was actually easier than I would have thought. I sort of felt a bit sorry that they were doing it....hope I don't turn into one of those smug types :rotfl:
I have had a very bad cold since I quit which has sort of helped as I feel a bit rough. I am looking forward to having more energy, better health and more cash. Did any of you feel really tired the first week? I thought I would get more done at home but I can hardly drag myself off the sofa.
Good luck to you all :T

Hi Kate,
Well done you!! Specially meeting with all your smoking friends - a big thing!
I am absolutely shattered - not going cold turkey but have patches so not sure why. I had a really bad chest infection which had me coughing all night and I haven't really slept properly since then - last night I pretty much woke up every hour on the hour so feeling really grotty today!

Schmickle, as you're on day 9 (I believe) and feeling rough is there any chance you could stop using the patches? You've been suffering a bit and it concerns me that you may be allergic to them. Give it a try while you're not feeling so good as, unless it's the cough that's keeping you awake, it's possibly them that's stopping you from sleeping too. How about the skin irritation, any better?
It's quite normal to get chest problems when you first quit as all the muck needs to come out and that's it's way of doing so, also you have the hairs in the respiratory areas that are starting to grow back again. It's also normal to feel a bit all in, though I suspect you feeling that way is due to getting over the infection.
Do take good care of yourself. You're doing so well now so whatever you do KEEP QUIT!!!!!! All the best.

Hi Kate and welcome to the thread! :j I'm delighted to hear that you've now decided it's the time to quit, and for all the great reasons too! Good for LEWKI and other MSEers! LEWKI's not been around for a while, he had a blip and then began quitting again and no doubt he'll be back on soon to say he's been a non-smoker for x amount of time.
What you're going through is the same as most of us have done at the beginning, but mostly it's being caused by the evils of smoking still messing about with your head, telling you you need to keep going. That's whan you bite back and absolutely refuse to give in to the little devil in your head!!! It'll soon pass off I can promise you and then you'll realise that - you got through the day without even thinking of smoking and be quite pleasantly amazed! :eek:Isn't it amazing just how many of us have associated the phone to a ciggy! I always used to light up before making a call ...and light one when someone rang me - puggled!!!
I think you did amazingly well in the early stages to sit with your friends while they all smoked!!!!! :T You deserve a medal!!! :j
Like as not you're feeling really tired due to the cold more than the quitting, so rest up a bit and get over it first - then - get back into the swing of daily life. Meanwhile you should be feeling so very proud of yourself, especially with those friends!!!! I REALLY do admire your will-power there!! :T Be prepared to turn a bit smug though, it happens to most of us as we're so proud of our accomlishment. Why shouldn't we be smug, we've a lot to be smug about - AND - you might just lead your friends into a far healthier way of life if they follow your GREAT example!!!
All best wishes Kate and keep very strong! :T
