  • Hello Everybody.

Hope I can join in the chat! I started smoking at 19 - pack a day for the past18 years. Stopped when I was pregnant with my son in 2003/4 and had a 6-week smoke free period in the late 90s but that's it.

Good news is that I am on day 7 of being smoke free!! I'm on patches and not doing too bad except I am very itchy all over (apparently a sign of circulation coming back) and have incredibly sore gums and tongue but I can deal with that! A bit twitchy today but determined to be smoke free.....

Best wishes to everybody else who has been smoke free and to those who are planning to be!!

    Hi schmickleicklepickle (that's a mouthful!!)
Welcome and well done on day seven .. I remember from my last time here that it really helps to read up on how others are doing and check in from day to day.. even if it's just to sound off .. there's usually someone about

SORRY couldn't resist :D .. (and I love the site the pic comes from!)

Seriously though.. the time has to be right to do this and for everyone it comes for different reasons.. I thought I was ready last time (back in March) and just the smallest thing set me off again after 3 months smokefree so I know how hard it is!

Good luck for when you do decide to go for it .. and in the meantime still visit here and post as it may help :)

  • Hi All:hello:
Hope y'll don't mind me joining this thread, I'm on my third smoke free day today. Had my first fag at 10 (disgusting I know) and started smoking regularly at 12, am 36 next week. Have tried several times before and always started again when I had a beer, but have stopped that too (3 days:T ). Am going cold turkey and apart from a couple of twinges, it hasn't been too bad so far. My OH has also given up which I think is helping.

Even tho I know all the reasons I should have given up before, I'm doing it this time as I've started a new diet to get rid of my psoriasis and it insists you stop smoking. As I'd like to be able to wear skirts and short sleved tops for the first time in 17 years next summer, I'm s*dding determined to do this!

Been reading through some of the previous threads and you guys are all amazing :j

    Hello fellow non smokers!!

I had been smoking for 30 years and am on week 9 smoke free with the aid of Champix. I had to stop taking it after 8 weeks as I could not sleep and was getting a bit narky!! It is more difficult without Champix but worth it. I love being a non smoker and will not smoke again as I never want to have to give up again.

Congrats to everyone who is still smoke free!!

    Hi themammy :)

Definitely found it easier last time time I was on champix .. stupid me though stopped taking them after twelve weeks before the nurse told me to, thinking I was completely smokefree :(

All I would say is (and not saying you are :o ) is don't get complacent and make the same mistake I did. I was so nearly there and keep berating myself for being so silly :(

Congratulations on week 9, that is a great achievement :T :T

Waspeze I did think of that as after 30 years it is obvious my will power is not good. However this time is different I do not want to have to give up again. If I wasn't getting so fat I would be elated!!

    Good luck giving up :o

    Hi all

As a (very) old timer on this thread, I just wanted to quickly offer my support to you all. Whatever method, doesn't matter. The destination is the important thing, not the route!

It really is the best thing you will do...

    Keep on stopping :T :T :T :T
