6 hours. 14 minutes. 44 seconds. This is hard.

STC, I stopped before, and to be fair you never ever go back to what you were before you start smoking in my experiences. It gets easier to deal with, but in certain situations, you'll still wish you had one at times.......like I used to in a pub with a glass of wine for example. Not a problem these days though is it LOL.

Well now this is an update and a half.......

Off to work yesterday. Smoked 1/2 ciggie on way (instead of usual 6 by the time I get to work)
Didn't smoke all day and at 3.30pm started to feel really ill. Mad pains across my chest, felt like there was a rubber bands round it!!! Anyway, very embarrassingly, an ambulance was called and off to A&E I went.
Spent the night there and was discharged this evening - had 1/2 when I got home - so that is 1 in 36 hours which is 29 less than usual.
Re diagnosis - I have just returned to work after 7 weeks off with a viral infection, which they now believe is the reason for the pains in my chest, all ECG etc clear and man, I just hated saying I was a smoker and of course, when I told them I was trying to stop they just looked at me with that 'yeah, yeah heard it all before' look.
Anyway thats me back off work for another while but I loathe my job and have now made up my mind to get another job ASAP and to stop fretting about getting back to a job I hate in case they think badly of me.
So I am not sure if I am allowed in the non-smokers club yet but trust me, if I could smoke 2 a day and NO more than that I would be happy - although I know that won't ever happen. So think I have 12 left and then thats me.

Has anyone here tried the medication rather than the patches

I am almost at nine hours now. Strangely, I have a bit of a cough forming? Think that's anything to do with not fagging it, or just coincidence?

Hi everyone. Hi RMC. I had a nasty viral infection february of last year. I ended up in hospital. I managed to stop smoking for 6 months as a result. Stupidly I started again. I did stop again 1st December 07 and am still stopped, Had to go cold turkey-lots of will power, determination and nagging DDs. It has worked for me. Hope you're feeling better soon. Take care

Welcome Hawthorn. The cough could well be a reaction to the not smoking. At some point (can't remember when ) the lungs start to try and clear themselves of all the tar and nasty stuff they have had to endure when you smoked, so when you stop they get the chance to try and clean up some of the aftermath-resulting in a cough, it'll probably get worse before it gets better, but persevere and it will pay off in the long run. Well done so far and continued good luck
